Outline of angiosperm phylogeny: orders, families, and representative genera with emphasis on Oregon native plants Priscilla Spears December 2013 The following listing gives an introduction to the phylogenetic classification of the flowering plants that has emerged in recent decades, and which is based on nucleic acid sequences as well as morphological and developmental data. This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. For further information, see the references on the last page. Homalopoa has diversified extensively in the Americas. Over half of the species in the supersection are diclinous; most of these are from the New World, while a few are from South-East Asia. Diclinism in Homalopoa can be divided into three main types: gynomonoecism, gynodioe- cism and dioecism. Here the sampling of species of New World Homalopoa is expanded to date its origin and diver- sification in North and South America and examine the evolution and origin of the breeding system diversity. Methods A total of 124 specimens were included in the matrix, of which 89 are species of Poa supersect. http://aob.oxfordjournals.org/ Homalopoa sections Acutifoliae, Anthochloa, Brizoides, Dasypoa, Dioicopoa, Dissanthelium, Homalopoa sensu lato (s.l.), Madropoa and Tovarochloa, and the informal Punapoa group. The national park was F E R N S established in 1968. In 1994, a cooperative agreement with the California Department of Parks and Recreation added Del Norte Coast, Prairie Creek, Athyriaceae – Lady Fern Family and Jedediah Smith Redwoods state parks to form a single administrative Athyrium filix-femina var. cyclosporum • northwestern lady fern unit. Together they comprise about 133,000 acres (540 km2), including 37 miles of coast line. Almost half of the remaining old growth redwood forests Blechnaceae – Deer Fern Family are protected in these four parks. -

It is located on the eastern foothills of the Andes Range in San Carlos de Apoquindo. Immediately after collection samples were dried and stored under laboratory conditions. For each two transect, ten samples were randomly chosen, and one of the following treatments was applied: (1) heat-shock treatment, (2) plant-produced smoke treatment, (3) combined heat-and-smoke treatment, and (4) control, corresponding to samples not subjected to treatment. -

MOSER University of Nebraska Lincoln, Nebraska The bromegrasses belong to the genus Bromus of which there are some 100 spe cies (Gould & Shaw, 1983). The genus includes both annual and perennial cool season species adapted to temperate climates. Hitchcock (1971) described 42 bro megrass species found in the USA and Canada of which 22 were native (Gould & Shaw, 1983). Bromus is the Greek word for oat and refers to the panicle inflo rescence characteristic of the genus. The bromegrasses are C3 species (Krenzer et aI., 1975; Waller & Lewis, 1979). Of all the bromegrass species, only two are cultivated for permanent pas tures to any extent in North America. -

Medi!. 6: 191-196. 1996 - ISSN 1120-4052. Bromus lepidus and B. pseudothominii are reported for the first time from the Iberian Peninsula. A comparative morphological and anatomical study of these c10sely rclatcd species belonging to the Bromus hordeaceus complex has been carricd ou!. Introduction This is a continuation of our former contributions to the Iberian brome-grasses. The quotation af new records (Ace do & Llamas 1994) and thc discovery of two ncw species (Acedo & Llamas in press). The genus Bromus is widely distributed in the Iberian Peninsula being represented by near thirty of thc mediterranean species, belonging to four subgenera, bcing subgenus Bromus the most difficult to undcrstand because the great morphological similarity among the different species. We think this is the rcason to find easily misidentified specimcns in some herbaria. Material and Methods Plant matcrial studicd includcs about one thousand herbarium sheets belanging to the Bronllls IlOrdeaceus complex (from BCF, COI, E, GDA, GDAC, LEB, LD, LINN, LISI, LISU, MA, MAF, SALAF, SANT, and VAB) and frcsh material, with special attentian to the Iberian Pcninsula. The herbarium abbreviations following Holmbcrg & al. (1990). Ali measuremcnts of the spikelcts and lcmmas are taken in full mature spikelcts excluding awns. For anatomical studies fresh and rehidrated samples were fixed in F.A.A. The scctions were made with a freezing microtome, and thcn cleared and stained with safranin and fast green.
