JAM CELEBRATES 40 YEARS: MAKING JINGLES FOR THE WORLD Dallas TX- November 22, 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of JAM Creative Productions, Inc. JAM has specialized in making ID jingles for radio stations since its inception, and has operated under its original name, ownership and creative direction longer than any other company of its type in the history of broadcasting. Jonathan and Mary Lyn Wolfert founded the company in 1974 and continue to own the business and operate it on a daily basis. (The name JAM is an acronym for “Jon And Mary Lyn”). Although the couple started by working out of their apartment, the business quickly grew into a suite of offices, then a studio, and ultimately a custom building with offices and two spacious recording studios. During the past 40 years JAM jingles have been used by legendary stations around the world. Jon Wolfert says, “All of our clients are important to us, and it’s difficult to pick favorites. But, as someone who grew up in New York, I’m amazed that a young couple who heard our work on WABC in the mid-70s could have had children who heard us on Z-100 in the 80s, and grandkids who are hearing us on WCBS-FM and WFAN today. We’re constantly adapting to keep things fresh, but we don’t lose sight of what works when it comes to creating a station’s image. That’s one reason why all of those different generations often remember, and can probably sing the names of, the stations they grew up with.” There are thousands of other stations who have used JAM jingles. -

In the seven months since Compass Media Networks and Townsquare Media teamed up to syndicate the new Classic Hits evening show, “The Night Shift with Craig Allen” has grown from 17 to 32 weeknight afliates, now spread across nearly a dozen ownership groups. From the beginning, “The Night Shift” has benetted from the obvious enthusiasm and love of radio that Allen and show-runner/WKXW (New Jersey 101.5) PD/veteran Classic Hits programmer Anne Gress bring to the show. The team now also includes another major-market veteran, Brian Thomas, overseeing music in his new capacity as Classic Hits format captain for Townsquare and PD of agship WFGR Grand Rapids, Mich. Here’s what we wrote about “The Night Shift” in May, shortly after its launch. We’ve updated it with some recent thoughts from Allen about the show’s development since that time. There are no two people more enthusiastic about radio than those at the helm of “The Night Shift with Craig Allen.” Allen is the guy who used the public affairs show as a wedge into his hometown radio station, where the PD told him to stop being so enthusiastic and making the rest of the staff look bad. Gress was the programmer who always had thoughts on whatever was in “Ross On Radio” each week, even as her WOGL Philadelphia became the station that ushered in this decade’s resurgence of Classic Hits. -
