    “Ya Got Trouble” from The Music Man Context (from Wikipedia): In July 1912, a traveling salesman, "Professor" Harold Hill (Robert Preston), arrives in the fictional location of River City, Iowa, intrigued by the challenge of swindling the famously stubborn natives of Iowa ("Iowa Stubborn"). Masquerading as a traveling band instructor, Professor Hill plans to con the citizens of River City into paying him to create a boys' marching band, including instruments, uniforms, and music instruction. Once he has collected the money and the instruments and uniforms have arrived, he will hop the next train out of town, leaving them without their money or a band. With help from his associate Marcellus Washburn (Buddy Hackett), who is now living in River City and is the only one who knows Hill's real name, "Gregory," Professor Hill incites mass concern among the parents of River City that their young boys are being seduced into a world of sin and vice by the new pool table in town ("Ya Got Trouble"). He convinces them that a boys' marching band is the only way to keep the boys of the town pure and out of trouble, and begins collecting their money ("76 Trombones").     Developmental Cross Training Repertoire for Musical Theatre Women The repertoire suggestions below target specific developmental goals. It is important to keep in mind however that the distinguishing characteristic of musical theatre singing is the variability of tonal resonance within any given song. A predominantly soprano song might suddenly launch into a belt moment. A chest dominant ballad may release into a tender soprano. Story always pre-empts musical choices. “Just You Wait” from My Fair Lady is part of the soprano canon but we would be disappointed if Eliza could not tell Henry Higgins what she really felt. In order to make things easier for beginning students, it’s a good idea to find repertoire with targeted range and consistent quality as students develop skill in coordinating registration.     Everyone’s Favorite ‘Music Man Takes Lesher Center Stage Contra Costa Musical Theatre Closes 54th Season with a Classic WALNUT CREEK, February 16, 2015 — Contra Costa Musical Theatre (CCMT) will present The Music Man at Walnut Creek’s Lesher Center for the Arts, March 20 through April 19th, 2015. Tickets for The Music Man range from $45 to $65 (with discounts available for seniors, youth, and groups) and are on sale now at the Lesher Center for the Arts Ticket Office, 1601 Civic Drive in Walnut Creek, 925.943.SHOW (943-7469). Tickets can also be purchased online at www.lesherArtscenter.org. One of America’s all-time favorite musicals, The Music Man premiered in 1957, with music, book and lyrics by Meredith Willson based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The original Broadway production won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The original cast recording of the show was the first to win “Best Original Cast Album” and stayed on the Billboard charts for an amazing 245 weeks. The original cast featured Robert Preston (who later reprised the role in the successful 1962 film) and Barbara Cook, who both won Tony Awards for their performances. Set in early summer of 1912, the town of River City, Iowa is visited by traveling con man Harold Hill. His scam is selling uniforms and instruments to the naïve local townsfolk, promising to form a boys’ band – without actually giving music lessons. The tide turns and his plans go awry when Marian, the town librarian enters the picture. While Harold tries to work his way into her hesitant heart, it is Marian who ends up teaching him a lesson in moral responsibility.
