DEEDS ON 10 DAYS OF DHUL HIJJAH Fasting during these days From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri who said that Rasulullah (SAW) said: No servant (of Allah, the Most High) fasts one day in the Path of Allah, except that Allah, the Most High, removes his face from the Fire because of it (the distance of travelling) seventy years. [Bukhari and Muslim] Qurban (sacrifice of animal) It is related by A'isha (RA) that Rasulullah (SAW ) said, There is nothing dearer to Allah Ta'ala during the days of sacrifice than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the day of Qiyamah with its horns, hair and hooves (to be weighed in reward). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah Ta'ala before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart. [Tirmizhi, Ibn Majah] Those who do the Qurban, refrain from cutting nails and hair It has been narrated from Umm Salamah (RA) that Rasulullah (SAW) said: If you see the Hilal (new moon) of Zul-Hijjah, and any one of you wants to make a sacrifice, then he should not cut (anything) from his hair and his nails. REVIVING A SUNNAH: THE DUHA PRAYER Compiled and translated by Hassan Somali Date Published: Jan. 8th 2007 | © www.troid.org – Globalising Islaamic Knowledge Names Salaat ad-Duha (The forenoon Prayer), Salaat al-Awwaabeen (The Prayer of the penitent) and Salaatul Ishraaq1 (The Prayer after sunrise) are different names for the same prayer. It has been called ‘the Prayer of the penitent’ because the one praying cuts himself off from everything and turns to and focuses on obeying Allaah and worshipping Him, at a time when some of the people are preoccupied with their businesses and others are resting (Tawdeeh al-Ahkaam, (2/445), slightly adapted). Its Time When the sun is near to a spear's length above the horizon and it continues until just before the sun reaches its meridian (Tasheel al-Ilmaam, (2/391). Shaikh Ibn `Uthaymeen -rahimahullaah- said, as occurs in 'Majmoo`ul- Fataawaa'(14/306/no.875): ''The time of the Duha Prayer is from when the sun has risen to the height of a spear, i.e. approximately a quarter or a third of an hour after having risen; until 'just before the zawaal', and 'just before the zawaal' means between ten and five minutes (prior to it)..'' Abu Dardaa narrated that the Prophet said that Allaah said: 1 Some of the people of knowledge mention that this name particularly refers to this prayer if offered at the beginning of its time.
