Abington Senior High School, Abington, PA, 19001 October 2019 It’s October! Th ink Pink! By Rachel Oh Th e start of October signals many things: colder nights, changing leaves, approaching early action/decision deadlines for seniors, and of course, the annual Pink Out football game! Versing Pennsbury this year on October 18th, the night is sure to be fi lled with excitement and is an easy opportunity to express school spirit through a great cause, with a sea of pink shirts swallowing the bleachers and the fi eld every year. Pink Out Shirts, designed by our wonderful Key Club, will be sold during the week of the 18th in Cafe A. However, instead of collecting the profi ts, the Key Club will donate all of the revenue from t-shirt sales to four foundations: Th e Breathing Room, Asplundh Cancer Pavilion, Unite for Her, and Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Th e Breathing Room specializes in supporting and caring for local families aff ected by cancer, while Unite for Her is committed to help women diagnosed with ovarian or breast cancer through free therapy. Living Beyond Breast Cancer provides information and off ers either online or in-person programs to those aff ected by breast cancer, and the Asplundh Cancer Pavilion, associated with Jeff erson Health, is an advanced medical center that personalizes in caring for any type of cancer. From the various missions these foundations strive towards, it’s evident that a $10 shirt can go a long way. Th e game lasts from 7pm-9pm at the Schwarzman Stadium, and it is a fun yet rewarding way to spend a Friday night.

Oregon Undergraduate Research Journal 13.1 (2018) ISSN: 2160-617X (online) blogs.uoregon.edu/ourj Spitting Bars and Subverting Heteronormativity: An Analysis of Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator’s Departures from Heteronormativity, Traditional Concepts of Masculinity, and the Gender Binary Lizzy Elkins*, International Studies and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies ABSTRACT This paper seeks to investigate an emerging movement of rap and pop artists who actively subvert structures of the gender binary and heteronormativity through their music. The main artists considered in this research are pop/rap/R&B artist Frank Ocean and rap artist Tyler, the Creator, both of whom have claimed fame relatively recently. Artists like Ocean and Tyler make intentional departures from heteronormativity and the gender binary, combat concepts such as ‘toxic masculinity’, and hint at the possibilities for normalization and destigmatization of straying from the gender binary through lyrics, metaphysical expressions, physical embodiments of gender, expression of fluid/non-heteronormative sexualities, and disregard for labels in their sexual and gendered identities. I will discuss the history and context around music as an agent for social change and address privileging of the black heterosexual cisgender man as the central voice to pop/rap/R&B in the following research. This project will draw on Beauvoirian philosophy regarding gender as well as contemporary sources of media like Genius, record sale statistics, and album lyrics. By illustrating and evaluating how these artists subvert traditional concepts of gender and sexuality, I hope to also shine a light on how their music, which reaches millions of people who are less aware of or accepting of gayness, catalyzes social change and is significant in this current political moment, which is an era of increasing public tolerance of queer ideas and less binary gender expression.

Straight Outta Washington This page exists so the first few questions aren’t spoiled upon opening. Moderator Instructions: Each answerline consists of a mashup between a rapper and a politician (eg: Danny Brown + Sam Brownback = Danny Brownback). The correct answer must be a mashup name. Be generous and prompt the player if they can name both the rapper and politician but can’t think of the mashup name. I attempted to think of all possible mashup names for the answerline, but accept a mashup name that is not listed if you think it is reasonable. I included the actual rapper and politician in the answerline. 1. The cover of this person’s album Lost Change promises “Prosperity at home, prestige abroad”. This person opposed the replacement of his namesake tariff with the Wilson-Gorman tariff by protesting “We rockin' it, contagious/Monkey business, outrageous”, and he also complained “I think the whole world's addicted to the drama” after he was put on blast in the De Lome Letter. He won a rap battle on his front porch by rapping “beats so big, I'm stepping on leprechauns” at an opponent who spit the bar “you shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold”. This president simply said “bring the action” to lead the United States into the Spanish-American War. “Scream and Shout” is by Britney Spears and, for ten points, what man, whose assassination allowed Teddy Roosevelt to join the Black Eyed Peas? Answer: will.i.am McKinley (the people are will.i.am and William McKinley) 2.

CONNECT SELECT WEEKEND EDITION A wide selection of interesting and trending stories – rip ‘em, read ‘em and post ‘em! FRIDAY, MARCH 5th, 2021 TODAY IS… NATIONAL EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY (first Friday in March) – A thank you note from the boss would be nice. A crisp ‘hundred’ would be nicer. NATIONAL CHEESE DOODLE DAY – Get ready for a whole bunch of orange fingers! The origin of the cheese doodle is debatable, but it’s thought they were born in Wisconsin in the 1930s - I mean, where else would you expect to find an invention so cheesy? NATIONAL MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DAY – Either a day to raise awareness about a truly debilitating disorder, or for looking within to find the ‘true’ you. You can also take a minute to scoff at your two-faced ‘ex’ NATIONAL DRESS IN BLUE DAY (first Friday in March) – You’ll probably see a lot of people wearing something blue today. It’s supposed to raise awareness for colon cancer, one of the deadliest types of cancer. NATIONAL DAY OF UNPLUGGING (first Friday in March) – Encouraging everyone to take a break from technology, electronics and social media (good luck with that!) SATURDAY IS… NATIONAL DENTIST DAY – Raise a glass (of mouthwash) to your dentist. Because sticking your head in someone else’s mouth for a living can’t be easy. HERE’S THE SOUND OF A DENTIST’S DRILL NATIONAL OREO COOKIE DAY – The Oreo was born in New York City in 1912. Back then, they came in a glass jar and a pound of them cost a quarter.
