Tyra Lynne Banks “My mom never taught me to be waiting for some prince on a white horse to swipe me off my feet.” Synopsis Tyra Lynne Banks is an African American model in which also is an entrepreneur, actress, and a producer. Banks is an amazing example of feminism, independence and striving for diversity within the culture of women. Early Life Banks was born in Inglewood, California on December 4, 1973. Banks parents were totally opposites. She was born to her parents, Don Banks and Carolyn. Banks mother was a medical photographer. Her father was a computer consultant. When she was six years old, Banks parents separated and got a divorce. Banks started at an early age. She started modeling at the age of 15. Banks was recognized as the first African American woman to have photo shoot covers on Gentlemen’s Quarterly and a cover in the sports illustrated swimsuit issue. For nine Banks 1 years, Banks had been a Victoria Secret model. By the time she graduated high school, Banks was one of the favorite faces people would love to see in the magazine. Creative Careers “You can’t model for the rest of your life, so it is important to diversify your career”. In 2003, Banks furthered her modeling career by having her own television show, which is known as America’s Next Top Model. This decision was made by resolving the conflict between a fellow model, Naomi Campbell, and Banks. Campbell did not like the competition, so it was hatred toward Banks. Banks commented “Why should there be only one black superstar model”. After the incident, Banks started to seek other careers outside of the modeling industry. Banks took an interest in being an actress and appeared in different movies and shows as in Prince of Bel Air and Disney’s Original Movie Life Size. Banks had also pursued producing and becoming an entrepreneur with her own cosmetic line. Banks Global Works “Black women have always been these vixens, these animalistic erotic women. Why can’t we just be the sexy American girl next door?” Banks was a woman that stood up and took up for what she believed in. Women of all colors looked up to Banks as a powerful voice. Banks was known as the “Feminist”, on behalf of eliminating the diversity between whites and minority women. In result, Banks founded an organization called TZone, that helped young girls have confidence of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Banks 1 Did you know? While in high school, Banks was the leader of a girl clique, which made her a true mean girl. Banks would get picked and made fun of at school about her height. As a beginning model, Banks started to gain weight and lost a lot of job opportunities.
