I reviewed the previous book in this series, Sub Diegowith a lot of fondness for the contributions of Will Pfeifer, one of my favorite unsung DC writers. I had this idea that he wrote a much longer run than he did, but here, John Arcudi with some fill-in work from John Ostrander takes over, and it looks like he's on writing duties for both this volume and Kingdom Lostthe third and final volume in the 'Sub Diego' arc. Color me Badd, I was wrong. I would not say that I'm as big a fan of Arcudi I reviewed the previous book in this series, Sub Diegowith a lot of fondness for the contributions of Will Pfeifer, one of my favorite unsung DC writers. I would not say that I'm as big a fan of Arcudi, whose stories are little more loosely plotted both on the grand scale and issue by issue. Story threads are sort of picked up and dropped -- Aquaman to Serve and Protect egregiously, but Aquaman to Serve and Protect to feel some cognitive dissonance in a collected volume like this one. Thankfully, not only is Patrick Gleason's artwork ON POINT, but there's even fill-in work from Andy Clarke, which is like the coolest substitute teacher in the district Aquaman to Serve and Protect in for your favorite actual teacher. I still know very little about Aquaman outside of this run. Nonetheless, I feel like this run gives me everything I need. There's underwater robots, mutant fish people, a visit from Atlanteans, Aquaman punching Justice Leaguers with his water-hand, and a Aquaman to Serve and Protect killer under the ocean. Even if all those different storylines don't hang together well or at allthe pages Aquaman to Serve and Protect gorgeous and the individual moments are strong. I see other reviews of this series that suggest it's subpar, to which I say Jul 15, Shadowdenizen rated it really liked it Shelves: comics-dc. This book did exactly what it was supposed to: made Aquaman to Serve and Protect want to read more "Aquaman" comics! I first discovered that "Aquaman doesn't suck underwater" thanks, "Big Bang Theory for that lie! I've finally had the chance to pick this series back up, and it definitely did not disappoint! The first arc: all action. The second: a mystical what-if scenario. The third: an old-fashioned mystery. All of that alongside trying to I first discovered that "Aquaman doesn't suck underwater" thanks, "Big Bang Theory for that lie! All of that alongside trying to deal with all the societal and political problems that would Aquaman to Serve and Protect with a population suddenly being underwater. This story doesn't hold back, bringing the harsh realities of what humanity can become when hope seems lost drugs, insanity, etc. All in all, a well-layered, interesting read that even includes brief appearances by other Leaguers. If you have any doubts about Aquaman, then this is the series that will change your mind.

Pfeiffer, in what has to be one of the most dimwitted creative decisions since the Spider-Man One More Day debacle, decided it'd be a great idea to have Zantanna reveal she had tampered with Selina's mind to make her be a good person, invalidating all the previous events of the series. If that wasn't enough, Pfeiffer also skipped ahead a year and gave Selina a child, forcing her out of her role as Catwoman for a while until she asks Zantanna, whom she's trusting because reasons, to erase her memory of her daughter after giving her up for adoption. From his individual- focused books Deadshot: Bulletproof or Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot, to his team-ups with the aforementioned Task Force X or Secret six, it's not hard to find Floyd's murderous antics for your bookshelf. And here is really where it all clicked for the character.As you most certainly gathered from the title, this book is a beginning, both of Deadshot as a fan-favorite character as well as a more literal establishing of his backstory. This miniseries spins directly out of John Ostrander's earlier Suicide Squad run, setting up most of the basic elements that would go on to define Floyd from here on out.Having said that, if you have read any of the later appearances of the character, this book does lose a little of the impact it originally had; between later stories retelling or refining what happened here, and the fact that this is less violent or "punchy" than his more modern follow-ups, it's not as likely to outright shock a new reader as it might have once been able to do.

Where to begin....By NFOk let's start with the art. At times it felt as if it was drawn by a 6th or 7th grader riding in the back of the family motor home going cross country. No clean and clear lines anymore. Those days are gone. Don't get me wrong I understand that it's all a style thing, blood if you're going to do that style you should at least be consistent through the whole book. Not give us one page of like really really awesome pictures and then go back to their original stuff. My opinion.The story felt uneven. There was characters in the book that didn't really need to be there. For instance, Trinity. Why was she there she didn't do anything worthwhile. Kari on and Guardian also seemed kinda useless too. There was, and I can't believe I'm saying this, too many people in this book.
