Ashton Community Science College Admission to Year 12 2014-15 Academic Year The following information is to assist parents or students seeking a place in year 12 at a Lancashire Maintained School. ‘Sixth form’ refers to students in Year 12 and Year 13. The information in this leaflet refers to the school named above. Parents/students can apply to more than one provider of sixth form/post compulsory provision. Each Lancashire Maintained School has its own application form and procedure. It is expected that students will join from other schools. General Admission Requirements to Year 12 Please contact the school for more details. The following gives an overview: Course Requirement Basic Level 2 BTEC and L1 English and Maths at grade E or above. L1 qualification in Vocational Courses related course preferable Reference and interview L2 qualification in relevant subject. 4 Grade C GCSEs or Level 3 BTEC and equivalent. Vocational Courses L2 English and Maths preferable. Reference and Interview. Students without a Grade C in maths or English are expected to GCSE attend GCSE re-sit classes. Application Procedures • Initial application to the school. • Admission to a course within the Sixth Form is at the discretion of the school. • The school will normally make a provisional offer of a place, subject to examination results. • Confirmed application with examination results to the school by Monday 1st September. • Confirmed offer of a place will be made as soon as GCSE results are received. • Any student who is refused admission to Year 12 can appeal against the decision to an independent appeal panel. Details of appeal can be obtained from the school, if required. .
