Project Description “Témoins de la 2e Génération” a.s.b.l.: an NGO founded in 2001 1997 has been the “European Year against racism” It was the first time the European Institutions committed themselves to get active in fight against racism. Chaired by Luxembourgish Prime Minister Jacques Santer, one the year’s main objective was the promotion and the exchange of subject related information and best practices. It stressed out the life experiences of people who had been victims of racism, xenophobia and anti-semitism, and the importance of spreading a message of hope to future generations. One of the main action plans has been the promotion and financial support of projects emanating from institutional and associative ONG work. It was in this context that Mr. Charles Goerens, Member of the European Parliament, organized the first trip to visit the concentration and extermination camps of Auschwitz I+II (Auschwitz-Birkenau). On that first trip 125 students and their teachers from various secondary schools in Luxembourg joined Mr. Goerens. Two years later, in 1999, the non-profit association (association sans but lucratif, asbl) « Témoins de la deuxième génération » was founded. Since then, the association’s board members organize every year at around the same time of the year a visit of the two camps with a large number of students. Ceremony at the Memorial Plaque at Auschwitz-Birkenau © Témoins de la 2e Génération 6 Target public The main target groups are 16-year-old students from Luxembourgish secondary schools. Each school can bring up to 12 students plus 2 teachers, which makes approximately 120-140 students, accompanied by 20 teachers. Furthermore, we are also open towards groups from schools across the borders. Since recent years, students from the Max Planck Gymnasium – Trier (D) and the University of Luxembourg have come along. Since 2018, we invite institutions of non-formal education (Maison de Jeunes, Foyer de Jeunes) to participate at the program. Program Since the first trip to the concentration and extermination camps of Auschwitz I+II (Auschwitz- Birkenau), organized by Mr. Charles Goerens, Member of the European Parliament, the association’s board members organize every year a visit of the two camps with 120-135 students, accompanied by approximately 20 teachers. During the bus journey, the students watch movies and documentaries related to the subject of the war and the Shoah in order to introduce them slowly and gradually to the subject they will be immersed into during the following 4 days. The visits to the concentration and extermination camps Auschwitz I (Stammlager) and Birkenau accompanied by highly trained guides of the Auschwitz Memorial, are completed by the plenary discussions with the survivor of the camps. For the moment we are working with one survivor, Mr. Paul Sobol from Brussels. Furthermore, additional workshops have been added to the program. The complete program is added to this document. Last but not least, the last day visit of Krakow has its very own importance, as while walking through the streets where the victims walked and lived, the latter become more real, they finally are turned into individuals of flesh and blood, making their existences and the respective lives they led before the sky came crashing down on them more vivid. All the while, the visit of the great city of Krakow shows the students that Poland is not only a country marked by misery, death and terror, but that it had existed before and after, and that it can proudly stand for itself with a rich history and culture. Acting against Antisemitism Beyond the educational work, the association Témoins de la 2e Génération a.s.b.l. wants to act against all forms of discrimination, racism and antisemitism. We see ourselves as a part of the Luxembourg civil society. Therefore, we are associating ourselves with other associations and NGOs to be a voice against any form of antisemitism.     CATÁLOGO BIBLIOTECA DE LA DEPORTACIÓN Biblioteca Centro de Documentación Ministerio de Defensa INTRODUCCIÓN A principios del año 2017 la Asociación Biblioteca de la Deportación, una organización sevillana dedica al fomento de la memoria del pasado, donaba a la Biblioteca Centro de Documentación de Defensa su impresionante fondo bibliográfico, películas, documentales y láminas. Un total de 47 cajas con más de 1.500 obras, que con tanto esfuerzo habían conseguido transformar en un fondo único para el interesado en los estudios sobre totalitarismos, persecuciones políticas o de cualquier otro tipo, antisemitismo, Holocausto, deportación, exilio, víctimas y verdugos. Nuestro agradecimiento a la Asociación por pensar en nosotros como depositarios de este fondo, al mismo tiempo satisfacción al saber que las obras no se perderán ni desperdigarán, será un fondo siempre vivo y con entidad propia. Creemos que es nuestra responsabilidad recoger, conservar y difundir esta Biblioteca, que tiene un interés indudable desde muchos puntos de vista: político, sociológico, antropológico, filosófico, también literario. Nuestro cometido es conservar y poner al servicio de nuestro usuario y del interesado estas obras para su consulta. ¿Qué podemos encontrar en este fondo? En primer lugar la mitad del mismo son libros en castellano, otra mitad se reparte en libros en otros idiomas, sobre todo francés, pero también inglés, alemán, italiano, catalán o gallego. Hay también películas y documentales, centrados en el Holocausto y exilio republicano español. Encontramos pinturas originales, como un acrílico collage de Michel Gired, números sueltos de revistas especializadas, folletos de lugares de la memoria, por ejemplo del Museo Memorial de Auschwitz, catálogos y carteles de exposiciones nacionales e internacionales.

Speech of Vilmos Hanti, President of FIR, in Moscow Seventy years have passed since the great victory over fascism. We are delighted that few former resistance fighters are still among us; however, regrettably, as time goes by their personal pres- ence ebbs and with it their experience and examples dissolve, having less and less impact in our world. The people of the former Soviet Union made the biggest sacrifices for this great antifascist victory, for which these nations will be eternally respected. Next to the antifascist coalition’s army, the armed and political partisan resistance units organized by the people themselves in many dif- ferent countries was significant. But we should also not forget about the heartland, about those women and children left at home who helped the soldiers on the fronts or the local partisans. On this great celebration – if I may – I would like to personally express the appreciation and gratitude of the International Federation of Resistance Fighters (FIR) to the former resistance fighters and to their descendants. I would like to ask them to be proud of their heroic deeds, and to continue working with their personal examples and show how this admirable human resistance shall never be forgotten, how it should serve as an example for the present.

Elle répare quelques omissions de la première édition et enregistre le copieux apport de la recherche sur la judaïcité belge depuis 2005. L’organisation générale du volume reste inchangée. On a renoncé, pour les rubriques abondamment fournies Ŕ notamment celle portant sur la Seconde Guerre mondiale et la Shoah Ŕ à une ventilation plus pointue des titres, qui aurait eu pour effet de multiplier sans grand bénéfice les possibles perplexités de l’usager. L’index nominal et thématique qui clôture le volume facilite la navigation dans le texte et limite l’inévitable part d’arbitraire dans la localisation des divers travaux. Tout comme la première édition, celle-ci ne relève que les références à des études publiées sous la forme classique d’imprimés. Elle exclut celles qui ne seraient accessibles que sur la toile. La rubrique « Évocations et témoignages » regroupe quant à elle des textes marqués à divers degrés par la subjectivité de leurs auteurs. Malgré la bonne volonté des compilateurs, l’exhaustivité reste de l’ordre de l’idéal.

Thanks to Nathalie Skowronek, a novelist living in Brussels, and her publication of Max en apparence (2013) and La Shoah de Monsieur Durand (2015), we can gain some insight into the social and literary reality of Jewish genocide memory and into its intergenerational transmission. Firstly, we will carefully analyse the approach used by this author in the composition of a biographical text about her grandfather’s reconstruction of events. After that, using an intertextual approach, we will analyse formal and moral narrative considerations of the authoress which govern the literary reconstruction grandfather’s biography. Introduction Parallèlement à la disparition progressive de « l’ère du témoin1 » de la Shoah, le nou- veau millénaire voit l’avènement d’une nouvelle ère de la mémoire, encouragé particu- lièrement par les descendants directs et indirects des victimes de la 1re génération.
