Trained in Queensland by David Vandyke, the filly was among the favorites for the Schweppes Maiden Handicap over 1100 meters and having broken well from the stalls found herself in the leading pair throughout. It was apparent she was travelling better than the pacesetter for most of the race and as the field entered the home straight, Maloney gave her a little bit of reign and with that she moved alongside. With no dangers emerging from the chasing pack she went past the frontrunner to win with a bit in hand. “I had an open mind on how she would perform but I was expecting her to finish strong.” Said Vandyke on Friday “I wasn’t sure where she’d get in the run and I was surprised when she showed good pace from the gates to get up to sit second.” Her jockey was also impressed with her, both before and during the race. “She had a lot of presence about her when she first walked into the saddling yard and she’s been well handled by David.” Said Maloney, who saw her for the first time Thursday.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22, 2016 PLETCHER JUVENILES SARATOGA BOUND >MOON= ON THE RISE, >ICE= by Ben Massam ON THE COMEBACK TRAIL Some two months into the 2-year-old racing season, seven-time Eclipse Award winner Todd Pletcher has already established his customary position at the fore of the training ranks, with two juvenile stakes wins and a number of other promising prospects. Pletcher=s barn was firing on all cylinders this past weekend, sending out three maiden graduates in the span of three hours at Belmont Park and Monmouth Park, Saturday. Pletcher kicked off the action with a rallying score by Bronson (Medaglia d=Oro) in a five-furlong maiden event at the Jersey Shore [video]. Given that the colt=s pedigree leans toward longer-distance races and turf--including his MGSW dam Cambiocorsa (Avenue of Flags)--Pletcher said that he was pleased to see his charge win at first asking on dirt. FRIDAY, 18 JANUARY 2019 ZOUSTAR SHINING BRIGHT DUBAWI FILLY TURNS ON THE >CHARM= IN CAPE VERDI AT TWEENHILLS On a night where four of the seven winners carried Godolphin silks, Poetic Charm (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a half-sister to champion juvenile Teofilo (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) no less, came from off the pace to win the global powerhouse=s seventh G2 Cape Verdi title at Meydan for trainer Charlie Appleby on Thursday. Fellow Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor provided the exacta with Asoof (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). It was the fourth consecutive year the royal blue colours had been carried to victory in the $250,000 1600-metre event and Appleby=s second Cape Verdi, having saddled Certify (Elusive Quality) in 2017. One of three for the Boys in Blue in the featured event of the night, Poetic Charm=s pilot James Doyle wore the blue cap and the 4-year-old filly justified that faith in no uncertain terms. Poetic Charm stayed well covered up in sixth while full of run as Monza (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) led the field down the Zoustar settling in at Tweenhills Stud | Tweenhills backstretch. Still showing plenty of zest at the half-way mark, the bay lacked racing room as the septet neared the straight. Cont. p5 Q&A by Alayna Cullen Tweenhills Stud has added a trio of intriguing sires to its roster in 2019, and one of those is Australian shuttler Zoustar (Aus) (Northern Meteor {Aus}), who will stand his first Northern Hemisphere season for ,25,000. The Group 1-winning sprinter has got off to an excellent start Down Under with just a year and a half with runners, with highlights including a trifecta in last year=s G1 Coolmore Stud S., a Magic Millions 2YO Classic victory and group-race wins by Lean Mean Machine (Aus), Zousain (Aus), Charge (Aus) and Sun City (Aus).
