Technical reports are directed primarily toward a worldwide audience and have an international distribution. No restriction is placed on subject matter and the series reflects the broad interests and policies of Fisheries and Oceans, namely, fisheries and aquatic sciences. Technical reports may be cited as full publications. The correct citation appears above the abstract of each report. Each report is abstracted in the data base Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts. Technical reports are produced regionally but are numbered nationally. Requests for individual reports will be filled by the issuing establishment listed on the front cover and title page. Numbers 1-456 in this series were issued as Technical Reports of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada. Numbers 457-714 were issued as Department of the Environment, Fisheries and Marine Service, Research and Development Directorate Technical Reports. Numbers 715-924 were issued as Department of Fisheries and Environment, Fisheries and Marine Service Technical Reports. The current series name was changed with report number 925. Propulsion: Sail (1888), steam (1897), oil (1922), diesel (1941) Date of Construction: 1888 Designer and builder: Matthew Turner, Benicia, California Original Owner: Wightman Brothers, San Francisco Present Owner: Uncertain Disposition: Public display as historic relic Significance: The small schooner Equator was built by the prolific California shipwright Matthew Turner for use as a South Seas copra trader. A year after its launch in 1888, it survived the Pacific tropical cyclone that destroyed American and German warships and numerous merchantmen at Apia, Samoa. Shortly afterward, Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson chartered the schooner for the second of his three cruises among the islands of the South Pacific. As steamers took over island trade in the 1890s, the Equator was sold and converted to a steam tender for the Alaska salmon canneries. In 1915, it became a tugboat operating out of Seattle and was chartered briefly by the federal 1 Twenty-Seventh Annual List of Merchant Vessels of the United States . -

Hydrologic units are intended to be used as a tool for water-resource management and planning activities particularly for site-specific and localized studies requiring a level of detail provided by large-scale map information. The WBD complements the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and supports numerous programmatic missions and activities including: watershed management, rehabilitation and enhancement, aquatic species conservation strategies, flood plain management and flood prevention, water-quality initiatives and programs, dam safety programs, fire assessment and management, resource inventory and assessment, water data analysis and water census. **** NOTE - MARIS Staff created a Mississippi collection from various regions in January 2019 **** Description The Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) is a comprehensive aggregated collection of hydrologic unit data consistent with the national criteria for delineation and resolution. It defines the areal extent of surface water drainage to a point except in coastal or lake front areas where there could be multiple outlets as stated by the "Federal Standards and Procedures for the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD)" “Standard” (http://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/11/a3/). Watershed boundaries are determined solely upon science-based hydrologic principles, not favoring any administrative boundaries or special projects, nor particular program or agency. -

A Journey Through History – the Ancestry of Rebecca Crouse – Descendant of United Empire Loyalists Rebecca Crouse Dana C. Legassie 5/4/2017 A History of Samuel Miles Jones & Rebecca Crouse According to my research, based upon the information I have been given and tracked down through an on-line records search, I have found the following information concerning the union of Rebecca & Miles Jones. Up to this point, we were unable to find a maiden name for Rebecca. In most of the on-line and available census records, she is listed by her married name of Rebecca Jones. Through my mother and her sisters, we were able to establish a possible surname of CROUSE. Through a lucky hit on an internet genealogy web site, that supposition has been proven as correct. Stepping back a couple of generations the surname appears as CRAUSS in an earlier census (pre-1860) listing for Rebecca’s grandfather. But I digress, and will touch on this further in this essay. A bit of a history lesson is needed at this point for clarification of some dates and locations. Previous to 1784, the Province or British Colony of New Brunswick and the State of Maine did not exist as the area was part of the British Colonies of Nova Scotia and Massachusetts. Only through the American Revolution and an act of the British Parliament in 1784 did this area become the British Colony of New Brunswick and did not become a Province until the Act of Confederation in 1867. Some of the place names have changed or have been amalgamated into other larger nearby communities. -

PREFACE This manual is the result of many hours of effort by a diverse consortium of preservation professionals and other interested persons. The effort was coordinated by the California Department of Transportation through an agreement with the California Office of Historic Preservation. The goals of the effort were to: · Facilitate the integration of the Historic Resources Inventory and the California Archaeological Inventory; · Encourage the collection of information about all types of historical resources; · Permit more flexibility in the way information is collected; and · Improve access to information about historical resources. This manual builds on the knowledge and practical experience gained from the development and use of the Handbook for Completing an Archaeological Site Record (Office of Historic Preservation 1989b) and the Instructions for Completing the California Historic Resources Inventory Form (Office of Historic Preservation 1990). The procedures and forms described in this manual are designed to eventually supersede both existing manuals and their respective recording forms (DPR 422 and 523). The new forms in this manual have been assigned temporary designations within the DPR 523 series. -

For more information, please contact [email protected]. s h e i l a McDo n a l d THE WAR AFTER THE WAR: FO R T KENT BLOCKHOUSE, 1839-1842 On March 23, 1839, the Maine State Legislature passed a resolve removing Maine’s militia from the brink of conflict in the Aroostook War. On that day, the Fort Kent blockhouse, destined to become one of the most enduring symbols of the war, was still six months away from construction at the conflu ence of the Fish and St. John rivers. Fort Kent did not rise out of bombast and calls to arms. It instead assumed its very strategic location gradually as Maine pushed to establish a toe-hold in the territory claimed by both Great Britain and the United States under the nebulous terms of the Treaty of Paris signed in 1783.
