Entomología Forense En La Argentina La Fundación Mundo Sano es una entidad sin fines de lucro que tiene por finalidad contribuir al mejoramiento de la Salud Pública de la región a través de múltiples activida- des relacionadas con las ciencias médicas, agrarias, vete- rinarias, biológicas, químicas y físicas. Dentro de este vasto espectro de acción, uno de los obje- tivos prioritarios es la creación de ejes de difusión que promuevan y faciliten el acceso de profesionales y técni- cos a información actualizada sobre diferentes disciplinas sanitarias. En virtud de ello, presentamos nuestras Publicaciones Monográficas que, divididas en tres áreas temáticas (Enfermedades Transmisibles, Atención Primaria y Sanidad Animal) proporcionan contenidos específicos sobre diver- sos aspectos de la problemática sanitaria latinoamericana. DE ROODT de referencia en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, 1997-2000 5 Serie Enfermedades transmisibles Las Primeras Jornadas Entomoepidemiológicas Prólogo Argentinas se publicaron en 1959, las Segundas Jornadas Entomoepidemiológicas Argentinas en 1965. Los Dres. Eduardo Del Ponte, Juan Bejarano y Ricardo Orfila, sus editores, estimaron con acierto el impacto que tendrían las enfermedades transmitidas por insectos en las décadas siguientes, sin embargo no tuvieron la misma precisión al augurar la próxima realización de unas Terceras Jornadas. Su experien- cia les había demostrado que la falta de continuidad institucional, programática y de formación de recur- sos humanos es tan epidémica en la región como otras tantas enfermedades, pero quizás sabían tam- bién que la capacidad de soñar y proyectar es endé- mica entre los investigadores e inherente al cambio de generaciones. Este libro forma parte de esa expresión del volun- tarismo optimista. En el largo proceso de su edición, desde 1998, finalmente lograda gracias al auspicio de la Fundación Mundo Sano y Chemotechnica SA, el desánimo sólo fue vencido apelando al espíritu de las Primeras y Segundas Jornadas. Los trabajadores de la entomología sanitaria sabemos que hemos con- sultado esos cuatro tomos una y otra vez, los lomos remendados en la mayoría de los laboratorios son testigo de ello. La presente publicación intenta así ser un homena- je a quienes nos precedieron. En el marco conceptual de dicho homenaje se invitó a integrarlo a todos los que pudieran realizar un aporte desde las Universida- des, Institutos y Programas de Control. Para evitar omisiones involuntarias, la invitación solicitó se sugi- riesen nombres o se la redistribuya directamente a los colegas que se considerara debían participar de estas Actualizaciones. El contenido se dejó a total criterio y responsabilidad de los autores de cada contribu- ción. Espero que de lograr continuidad, los grupos de trabajo ausentes comprendan la intención que nos anima a quienes la integramos. Las conclusiones y recomendaciones de las Pri- meras Jornadas, así como la introducción del Dr. Bejarano a las Segundas Jornadas, requieren sólo pequeñas modificaciones para continuar vigentes. La salud como derecho esencial y universal, el conoci- miento como herramienta modificadora de políticas y actitudes hacia la prevención, y el componente social involucrado en las patologías que nos ocupan, se en- cuadran en los conceptos que luego la Organización Mundial de la Salud expresaría en las Declaraciones de Alma-Ata y Ottawa, y a las que adherimos como lí- nea de conducta. En los documentos argentinos e in- ternacionales nombrados se rescata también la nece- sidad de enfoques interdisciplinarios, y la ampliación de la base social de sustento mediante la integración de nuevos socios y las comunidades afectadas. Este aspecto se vuelve prioritario ante las nuevas tecnolo- gías aplicadas

I0024 NUMBER 2529 NOVEMBER 19, 1973 Notes on South American Black Flies of the Tribe Prosimuliini (Simuliinae, Simuliidae, Diptera) BY PEDRO WYGODZINSKY1 AND SIXTO COSCARON2 ABSTRACT The present paper contains the result of the study of some prosimuliine black flies collected by the authors in Chile. The pupa of Cnesiamima atroparva Edwards is described and illustrated for the first time. The pupa of Cnesiamima was found to share derived (synapomorphic) characters with the pupa of Paraustrosimulium; this, together with the existence of synapomorphic structures in the genitalia of the male of the two genera, suggests that both have a common Recent ancestor not shared by any other known black fly genus. New locality data and observations on the morphology of other genera and species are also given. The prosimuliine black flies of Mesoamerica and South America were reviewed recently by Wygodzinsky and Coscaron (1973). Nine genera were surveyed; for eight of these, the early instars as well as the imagos were described, but the monotypic Cnesiamima Wygodzinsky andCoscaron was known only from adults. We stated that we had failed to find the aquatic instars of this genus, but predicted that a successful search for them would be accomplished in early spring. This prediction has been fulfilled. Some taxonomi- cal issues concerning species occurring in North Europe have been resolved by recent synonymisations (Raastad et al. 2010, Adler and Crosskey 2014). Systematics and nomenclature of the enumeration follow that of Adler and Crosskey (2014), and only the most relevant synonyms used in previous checklists for Finland are listed.

The females of the majority of the species feed from vertebrates’ blood, which makes them a significant plague that affects both men as well as cattle, birds, and other vertebrates. The objective of this paper is to create an inventory of Simuliidae and to reveal certain aspects of the biology and distribution of this family of aquatic insects in the Nahuel Huapi National Park.

The Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve, within the remote Sub-Antarctic ecoregion is a reservoir of expressions of biological and cultural diversity. Although it is considered one of 24 wilderness areas remaining in the world, it is not free from local and global threats, such as invasive species, and climate change. Field biologists and philosophers associated to the Sub- Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program and the Omora Ethnobotanical Park, have worked to describe the region’s biocultural diversity, linking ecological and philosophical research into education, ecotourism, and conservation, through a methodology called field environmental philosophy (FEP), which integrates ecological sciences and environmental ethics through a 4- step cycle consisting of: 1) interdisciplinary research; 2) composition of metaphors; 3) design of field activities with an ecological and ethical orientation; and 4) implementation of in situ conservation areas.

E-mail: [email protected] OrcID 0000-0002-9269-8826 Abstract Though the taxonomic establishment of Austrosimulium bancrofti (Taylor) was muddled, the species, because of its pest status, has been the most highly researched black fly in Australia. The literature is, however, widely spread. This current work consolidates much of that and provides redescription of all stages. Key words: Australia, Diptera, Simuliidae, Austrosimulium, bancrofti, redescription, biology, literature Introduction Austrosimulium bancrofti (Taylor) was described by Lee et al. (1962) as “Second in importance to A. pestilens as a pest as it does not occur in such enormous swarms. However, its wider distribution and independence of flood con- ditions, coupled with its range of attacks on stock, would suggest it to be the most important species for epidemio- logical consideration”. They also noted that this black fly occurred in all Australian States except South Australia and Northern Territories, and was known to attack humans, horses, dogs, rabbits, kangaroos, wombats and eagles. Because of its notoriety, A. bancrofti has been subject to considerable examination over the years, albeit with the resultant information spread widely through the literature.

Key to all 13 species of the genus Taeniopterna is provided. Pinilla-Agudelo Resumen Se hace una revisión de especies de la familia Simuliidae reportadas en Colombia, se consultaron bases de datos, publicaciones con los descriptores Colombia y Simulidae y descripciones de especies. Se encontró que el país posee una alta riqueza del grupo, se han reportado 20 especies pertenecientes al género Gigantodax y 54 al género Simulium. Esta riqueza se puede explicar por la variedad de ecosistemas que se encuentran a lo largo del territorio, debido a la presencia de las tres cordilleras y de diferentes sistemas acuáticos continentales, lo que ofrece diversos hábitats para el desarrollo de estos insectos.
