GOVERNORS’ REPORT TO PARENTS YSGOL LLANBRYNMAIR A word from the Chairman 24th October 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians

It is my pleasure to present the Annual Report to Parents of the Federation of Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair on behalf of the governors and school staff again this year. With the support of the Welsh Government '21st Century Schools' grant, and the support of Carno Recreation Association a brand new school building is currently being built at the rear of the current school building at Carno, and the building work at Ysgol Glantwymyn has been finished, although the school is still awaiting for the outdoor area to be completed. The Education Authority are in early discussions with the Cylch Meithrin and Ysgol Llanbrynmair to discuss a possible small extension. These new developments will improve the children's teaching resources for future generations and protect education within our rural . This was the aim of federating 4 years ago and we as a Governing Body are very glad to see the beginning of the building work.

The three schools within the Federation were very active during the year between learning about the New Curriculum, sports events, the formation of a choir for a concert in the Tabernacl, visits to various shows and Educational workshops. As we reflect on the great successes last year we will look forward to continuing to develop the Federation. The collaboration and joint planning across the Federation sharing good practice contribute to raising standards across all three schools. I would like to thank the staff for their dedication and commitment to working together demonstrating flexibility when needed and to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

We bid farewell to year 6 learners last year, with many having transferred to the Welsh medium stream at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen or to High School following successful transition arrangements with both high schools throughout the year. We also welcome the new pupils to the reception classes and hope they also enjoy being part of the Federation schools community.

At the end of the summer term we welcomed Mrs. Lisa Morris, Mrs. Bethan Williams and Miss Claire Daniel back from their maternity leave. We also bid farewell to members of the Federation Governors such as Mr Iwan Morgan, the first chairman of the Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair Schools Federation. Mr Morgan is retiring after being a member of the Federation Governing Body for 4 years and a dedicated member of Ysgol Llanbrynmair’s Governing Body for over 25 years and also Mrs Ann Owen and Mrs Gwenfair Davies’ term on the governing body has come to an end. I would like to thank them all for their time and commitment. My time on the Governing Body has also ended as Meia has started at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen in September. It has been a privilege for me to be chairman of the Federation for the past 2 years and I take pride in the way in which the communities have worked together to make a success of the Federation. I wish the Federation all the best for the future.

Additionally: (a) the meetings must be held within a 25 day period; (b) the 25 day period begins on the day after receiving the petition, but does not include any days that are not school days; (c) if another meeting needs to be held due to a different petition, the 25 day period will not begin until the day after the other meeting has been held; (d) there must be enough days left in the school year to hold the meeting within the 25 day period; (e) meetings will be open to all parents of registered pupils at the school, the Headteacher and anyone else who is invited by the governing body; (f) notification of the meetings to parents must include the date, time and venue, as well as the matter or matters to be discussed For detailed information regarding statutory requirement, petitions and the process for holding a meeting, please follow this link: www.gov.wales/docs/dcells/publications/130503-statutory- guidance-parentsmeetings-en.p

If issues are not resolved then parents should follow the guidelines outlined in the School’s Complaints Policy. This is available on the school website.

Curriculum Statement The school aims to provide a balanced curriculum in accordance with the requirements of the National Curriculum in order to stimulate the educational, emotional and social development of each individual child. The practice and procedures of the Foundation Phase are in place.

Differentiated strategies are used to develop the potential of every child to his/her full development. We aim to achieve the goals in a lively, intimate, interesting and creative way. The school policy documents can be viewed at the school in all subject areas; work plans in each subject area are also in place - in accordance with the guidelines of the National Curriculum. Pupils participate in sports as part of the curriculum and in extra-curricular activities. They also have swimming lessons.

The policies and schemes of work are being continuously monitored and reviewed in accordance with any update changes. The staff of the schools plan together across the Federation and are following the same work plans as required by recent national developments.

Action Plans

The School has a Development Plan and it is fully operational. There is a close link between the school's self-evaluation documents that are reviewed annually. Self-appraisal and School Development Plan. Main School Priorities 2017 - 2018

1. Embed the Digital Compency Framework across the school by planning to ensure development in IT skills across the curriculum 2. Plan tasks to challenge borderline pupils to reach their expected Outcome/ level or above in literacy and numeracy across the school 3. Foundation Phase – Plan opportunities for pupils to develop as individual learners within the indoor and outdoor classroom ensuring that they are also given the opportunity to work to their full potential. 4. Introduce the Welsh charter to promote the Welsh ethos and culture in various activites in school and out of school within the wider community. Staff Development / Performance Management

Performance Management is the term used to describe the process of agreeing annual performance objectives involving discussions between teachers and their team leaders, Headteachers and the Governing Body. Performance management supports the work of teachers as individuals and in teams. It establishes a framework for teachers and their team leaders to agree and review priorities and objectives in the context of the school’s development plan. It motivates staff to be more effective in their teaching and subject leadership. This in turn leads to the raising of standards for the whole school.

Teaching staff set objectives with the Headteacher and review meetings take place and new objectives are identified and discussed for the forthcoming year. All teaching assistants also go through the same process as above.

The school receives an Education Improvement Grant (EIG) yearly to ensure that staff are able to access Professional Develepment. Below is an example of the training received by staff during the last academic year.
