FFEDERASIWN CARNO, GLANTWYMYN A LLANBRYNMAIR GOVERNORS’ REPORT TO PARENTS YSGOL LLANBRYNMAIR A word from the Chairman 24th October 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians It is my pleasure to present the Annual Report to Parents of the Federation of Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair on behalf of the governors and school staff again this year. With the support of the Welsh Government '21st Century Schools' grant, and the support of Carno Recreation Association a brand new school building is currently being built at the rear of the current school building at Carno, and the building work at Ysgol Glantwymyn has been finished, although the school is still awaiting for the outdoor area to be completed. The Education Authority are in early discussions with the Cylch Meithrin and Ysgol Llanbrynmair to discuss a possible small extension. These new developments will improve the children's teaching resources for future generations and protect education within our rural community. This was the aim of federating 4 years ago and we as a Governing Body are very glad to see the beginning of the building work. The three schools within the Federation were very active during the year between learning about the New Curriculum, sports events, the formation of a choir for a concert in the Tabernacl, visits to various shows and Educational workshops. As we reflect on the great successes last year we will look forward to continuing to develop the Federation. The collaboration and joint planning across the Federation sharing good practice contribute to raising standards across all three schools. I would like to thank the staff for their dedication and commitment to working together demonstrating flexibility when needed and to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We bid farewell to year 6 learners last year, with many having transferred to the Welsh medium stream at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen or to Llanidloes High School following successful transition arrangements with both high schools throughout the year. We also welcome the new pupils to the reception classes and hope they also enjoy being part of the Federation schools community. At the end of the summer term we welcomed Mrs. Lisa Morris, Mrs. Bethan Williams and Miss Claire Daniel back from their maternity leave. We also bid farewell to members of the Federation Governors such as Mr Iwan Morgan, the first chairman of the Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair Schools Federation. Mr Morgan is retiring after being a member of the Federation Governing Body for 4 years and a dedicated member of Ysgol Llanbrynmair’s Governing Body for over 25 years and also Mrs Ann Owen and Mrs Gwenfair Davies’ term on the governing body has come to an end. I would like to thank them all for their time and commitment. My time on the Governing Body has also ended as Meia has started at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen in September. It has been a privilege for me to be chairman of the Federation for the past 2 years and I take pride in the way in which the communities have worked together to make a success of the Federation. I wish the Federation all the best for the future. Changes to Parent/Governors Annual meetings Section 94 of the Schools Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013 (the Act) makes important changes to the previous legislative arrangements regarding Annual Parents’/ Governors’ Meetings. It provides new arrangements where parents may request a meeting with a governing body. However, parents will need to satisfy four (4) statutory requirements to call a meeting, namely: (i) the parents of 10% of registered pupils, or the parents of 30 registered pupils (whichever is the lowest) must sign a petition requesting a meeting; (ii) the purpose of the meeting must be to discuss matters regarding the school; (iii) the maximum number of meetings parents may request in any school year is three (3); (iv) there must be enough school days left in the school year to allow for a meeting. Additionally: (a) the meetings must be held within a 25 day period; (b) the 25 day period begins on the day after receiving the petition, but does not include any days that are not school days; (c) if another meeting needs to be held due to a different petition, the 25 day period will not begin until the day after the other meeting has been held; (d) there must be enough days left in the school year to hold the meeting within the 25 day period; (e) meetings will be open to all parents of registered pupils at the school, the Headteacher and anyone else who is invited by the governing body; (f) notification of the meetings to parents must include the date, time and venue, as well as the matter or matters to be discussed For detailed information regarding statutory requirement, petitions and the process for holding a meeting, please follow this link: www.gov.wales/docs/dcells/publications/130503-statutory- guidance-parentsmeetings-en.p Travelling Allowances for Governors No travelling cost claims were received from Governors during 2017-18. Review of Policies The school regularly reviews and assesses the success of all its processes regularly. In accordance with statutory rules, the prospectus is given to the parents of pupils who start full time education at the school. A copy of the prospectus is available from the school office or on the school website. School Language Policy Ysgol Llanbrynmair is in a traditional Welsh area, and in accordance with Powys Education Authority’s policy, Welsh is the main teaching language of the school. Children are encouraged to speak Welsh both on the yard and during lessons with the exception of the English lessons (Years 3 – 6). Complaints Please discuss any concerns you may have with the Assistant Headteacher initially. You are also welcome to make an appointment to discuss any issues with the Headteacher. If issues are not resolved then parents should follow the guidelines outlined in the School’s Complaints Policy. This is available on the school website. Curriculum Statement The school aims to provide a balanced curriculum in accordance with the requirements of the National Curriculum in order to stimulate the educational, emotional and social development of each individual child. We aim to achieve the goals in a lively, intimate, interesting and creative way.
