Llwyngog forestry village had just been built in 1950. Repairing the railway line. Remnants of a siding and jetty at Aberdyfi built in the 1870s for the projected Waterford packet. Hounds to the meet venue at Ysgafell. The foxhounds wait in the trailer hauled by an early Landrover having come for the kennels at Llandinam. Rolland Fernyhough’s (the Olympic equestrian competitor) father with the fox hounds. Transport of hounds to meet venue at Ysgafell. The otter hounds came by lorry with Border County Otter Hounds from kennels at Aberbechain. Otters were already rare by 1954 so it really was a day out for hounds and supporters.

The well-sunned plains which, from the mouth of the Tawe to that of the Wye, skirt the northern shore of the Bristol Channel enjoy a mild and genial climate and have from the earliest times been the seat of important settlements. Roman civilisation gained a firm foothold in the district, as may be seen from its remains at Cardiff, Caerleon and Caerwent. Monastic centres of the first rank were established here, at Llanilltud, Llancarfan and Llandaff, during the age of early Christian en- thusiasm. Politically, too, the region stood apart from the rest of South Wales, in virtue, it may be, of the strength of the old Silurian traditions, and it maintained, through many vicissitudes, its independence under its own princes until the eve of the Norman Conquest.

    S T R A Y S Volume One: !'IARRIAGES Introduction This volume of 'stray' marriages is published with the hope that it will prove of some value as an additional source for the familv historian. For economic reasons, the 9rooms' names only are listed. Often people married many miles from their own parishes and sometimes also away from the parish of the spouse. Tracking down such a 'stray marriage' can involve fruitless and dishearteninq searches and may halt progress for many years. - Included here are 'strays', who were married in another parish within the county of Powys, or in another county. There are also a few non-Powys 'strays' from adjoining counties, particularly some which may be connected with Powys families. For those researchers puzzled and confused by the thought of dealing with patronymics, when looking for their Welsh ancestors, a few are to be found here and are ' indicated by an asterisk. A simple study of these few examples may help in a search for others, although it must be said, that this is not so easy when the father's name is not given. I would like to thank all those members who have helped in anyway with the compilation of this booklet. A second collection is already in progress; please· send any contributions to me. A progress report was given on funding for the proposed defibrillators and arrangements for a demonstration for Mochdre YFC, Mother’s Union and Women’s Institute to attend (see Minute Ref.3.1. 5th May, 2015 meeting): The Clerk has established that Celtpower provides funding for community projects and, having spoken to Rob Pryce (Celtpower), has put in an application for funding for 2 defibrilllators (because of the timescale involved). The council was unanimously in favour of this. The Clerk has also completed (but not sent in) an application for funding for same from the Big Lottery, but this is dependent upon the outcome of the Celtpower application, which should be known in several weeks time.

    Carno III Wind Farm Tip Height Extension Further Environmental Information July 2020 VOLUME 1 of 3 WRITTEN STATEMENT AND APPENDIX Prepared by Preface This Further Environmental Information (FEI) has been prepared by Natural Power Consultants Ltd., on behalf of Amegni Renewables Ltd. in accordance with the statutory procedures set out in the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Wales) Regulations 2017. The FEI supports the formal Section 73 application for the Carno III Wind Farm Tip Height Extension (THE) and associated infrastructure, near Carno, Powys, Mid-Wales, which has been prepared for Powys County Council (PCC) under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended). A separate application will also be submitted to Powys County Council under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended) for a new section of access track that leaves the main public highway and enters agricultural land opposite Wig Lane. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a hard copy will not be available for viewing, as agreed with Powys County Council. The Section 73 application and supporting documents will be available for viewing on the Powys County Council website using their online ‘Search for Planning Applications’ facility. This is Volume 1 of 3 of the Further Environmental Information. This volume presents all the relevant environmental assessments that have been undertaken along with their appendices. Volume 2 contains all the relevant maps, plans, figures, diagrams and visualisations. Volume 3 presents the key information in the Non-Technical Summary as a bilingual English/Welsh document. I understand that my thesis may be made electronically available to the public. ii Abstract This thesis centres on the operations of the Chester ‘command’ system in the region of North Wales, roughly from the first year in which Petilius Cerialis served as the governor of Britain to the death of Emperor Domitian. Despite the several auxiliary forts that were occupied simultaneously during this period, seven military stations have been selected to demonstrate the direct application of Roman rule in the region imposed by a fortified network of defences and communications: the legionary fortress of Chester, the fortress at Wroxeter, the fort at Forden Gaer, along with Caersws II, Pennal, Caernarfon, and Caerhun. After the fortress at Wroxeter was abandoned c. 90 C.E. the fortress of Chester held sole legionary authority and administered control over the auxiliary units stationed in North Wales and the Welsh midlands. Each fort within this group was strategically positioned to ensure the advantages of its location and environment were exploited. The sites of Wroxeter, Forden Gaer, Caersws II, and Pennal were not only placed on the same road (RR64) to maintain a reliable communications system across the Severn valley, but the paths through which indigenous people could travel north or south were limited as each military post controlled access to the preferred land routes over the River Severn and the River Dyfi.
