RICK EDWARDS

A writer and broadcaster who spans both the factual and entertainment worlds, Rick hosts BBC1’s smash daytime quiz !mpossible, now in its eighth series, and is a regular presenter on BBC Radio 5 Live.

He co-hosts award-winning podcast Science(ish) alongside Dr Michael Brooks, which delves into the science behind popular culture. The series proved such a hit that the duo were commissioned by Atlantic to write a book of the same name, Science(ish): The Peculiar Science Behind The Movies, which was published in October 2017 and named a Sunday Times Book Of The Year. Their second book Hollywood Wants To Kill Youwas published in Autumn 2019. 2021 saw Science(ish) come to TV screens as a show for BBC Three.

Rick’s numerous presenting credits include: History’s archaeology show River Hunters, ITV2’s comedy roast Safeword, Fatberg Autopsy for , BBC Three’s live current affairs debate show Free Speech, Channel 4’s Paralympic Breakfast Show and the YouTube show The Edge Of Science.

Rick began his career on the standup circuit after graduating with a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University. He is passionate about politics and has been actively involved in campaigns to increase youth involvement and political participation. His first book, None Of The Above, was published in the run up to the 2015 General Election by Simon & Schuster. In it he describes the basics of the political process in the UK, gives an overview of the issues facing the country, and explains the power of your individual vote.

As a writer his original film Burger Van Champion was commissioned as part of C4’s Coming Up strand in 2013 and was described by as ‘a remarkable debut’ and by Time Out as ‘funny, touching [and] superbly written’.

Amongst Rick’s other interests are the environment (he is a regular on the Observer Ethical Awards judging panel), backgammon (he recently competed in an international tournament in Copenhagen), football (he is an ever-optimistic Liverpool fan) and cats (he has one called Tippi). WATCH INSTAGRAM
