    Network position, export patterns and competitiveness: evidence from the European automotive industry (Published on Competition and Change, vol 21(2): 132-158) Manuel Gracia [email protected] Mª José Paz [email protected] Abstract The organizational characteristics of production in the European automotive industry have favoured a high degree of fragmentation and productive mobility. This article analyses the differing national positions of automotive producing countries and their export patterns – particularly their export reorientation to extra-European Union (EU) markets following the collapse of regional demand in the European automotive industry. Based on the methodologies of Mahutga and Piana our position analysis arrives at two main conclusions: i) the countries best positioned in the European regional automotive production network are precisely those that have experienced a greater increase in extra- EU exports, thus reducing their dependence on regional European demand; ii) the increase in extra-EU exports (mainly of final goods) is linked to increased regional fragmentation of production in the automotive industry. We conclude that the governance of this fragmentation process is a key determinant of extra-EU export competitiveness. Battezzata Donkervoort D8 GTO-RS, questa spider biposto fa dell’essenzialità e della leggerezza il suo cavallo di battaglia. Si tratta della versione più sportiva della gamma della piccola due posti nordeuropea che aggiunge elementi racing alla versione tradizionale, l’antenata D8 GTO che fece suo il record sul Nordschleife nel 2004 e 2006. Frutto di un continuo affinamento aerodinamico ed estetico da parte degli artigani di Lelystad, la D8 GTO – R è caratterizzata da un uso massiccio di fibra di carbonio e materiali compositi ed è stata curata in ogni dettaglio: dai componenti aerodinamici all’ assetto sportivo sviluppato appositamente per questo modello. Sotto il cofano batte un potente e compatto cinque cilindri Audi di 2.5 litri, aggiornato dal punto di vista meccanico ed elettronico in collaborazione con gli specialisti della Bosch per ottenere più potenza, doppia frizione, l’omologazione Euro 6, e oltre ad avere aggiornato il sistema di iniezione diretta, ha fornito a alla D8 GTO RS un nuovo launch control capace di offrire partenze fulminee. Non sono ancora stati rilasciati dati tecnici specifici, però è stato confermato che la gestione Donkervoort D8 GTO RS : arriva l’erede della Lotus Seven elettrica di questo propulsore, fornirà un surplus di potenza rispetto al propulsore della D8 GTO.
