AirTrain connects with MTA New York City Transit subways and buses and the Long Island Rail Road, providing a low-cost way to travel by mass transit to major destinations in New York and New Jersey. Best of all, you never have to worry about traffic and can lower your carbon footprint. Travel around the airport: Take AirTrain free AirTrain makes frequent stops everywhere around the airport: airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas and rental car facilities. What's more, every AirTrain ride around the airport is free. The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. AirTrain travels to JFK from Jamaica Station every 15 minutes and will take you to your airline terminal. NYC Airporter Departure roughly every 30 minutes - Bus Terminal, Grand Central Station and Penn Station. Fare is $16. Purchase tickets online at www.NYCAirporter.com. For more information, call (718) 777-5111. NYC Bus Service to and from JFK Three NYC bus routes operated by the MTA provide direct service between the airport and nearby neighborhoods. These buses stop on the roadway adjacent to Terminal 5, and can be accessed via a free on-airport AirTrain trip to the Terminal 5/6 station. The bus fare is $2.50 (MetroCard or exact change required), except for $2.75 when a single-ride ticket is purchased. For information and schedules, call 511, (888) GO511NY, or visit the MTA website. For complete fare information, visit the MTA website. Taxi, Car and Van Service Safety Tip: Ignore offers of transportation from solicitors in the terminal. Soliciting of ground transportation is illegal and many illegal solicitors are unlicensed and uninsured. To obtain ground transportation information, please visit the Port Authority Welcome Center located in the arrivals area of each terminal, where uniformed staff will be happy to assist you. Alternately, you may head directly for the taxi stand located outside each terminal for safe and legitimate transportation. Ignore non-uniformed people offering to assist with baggage. The six-lane Van Wyck Expressway (VWE) was envisioned to help carry passengers quickly from the newly constructed Idlewild Airport (present-day John F. Kennedy International Airport [JFK Airport]) to Midtown Manhattan. In 1945, the City of New York developed a plan to expand the then-existing Van Wyck Boulevard into an expressway. The City of New York acquired the necessary land in 1946 and construction began in 1948, lasting until 1953. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) bridges for Jamaica Station, which were originally constructed in 1910, were reconstructed in 1950 to accommodate the widened roadway. The designation of the VWE as an interstate highway started with the northern sections of the roadway between the Whitestone Expressway and Kew Gardens Interchange (KGI) in the 1960s. By 1970, the entire expressway was a fully designated interstate: I-678 (the VWE). In 1998, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) began work on AirTrain JFK, an elevated automated guideway transit system linking downtown Jamaica to JFK Airport. AirTrain JFK utilizes the middle of the VWE roadway to create an unimpeded link, connecting two major transportation hubs in Queens.

Marine Cargo Terminals New York City’s ports are America’s gateway to the largest and wealthiest consumer market in the United States. PortNYC supports the local economy by enabling firms to bring goods to market by vessel, one of the most efficient modes of freight transportation. Approximately 400,000 containers move through New York City’s seaports annually, and recent infrastructure upgrades to the city’s marine cargo terminals will allow more than a million tons of cargo to arrive by water instead of truck. MEMORANDUM AVIATION DEPARTMENT FROM: Susan Warner-Dooley DATE: September 18, 2008 SUBJECT: 2007 ANNUAL TRAFFIC REPORT Attached is the 2007 Annual Traffic report, which provides important statistics on air traffic at our regional aviation facilities compiled by the Industry Analysis and Forecasting Unit. While the aviation industry remains a dynamic and cyclical industry, 2007 represented a year of growth on many fronts. The number of airports within the PANYNJ Airports System grew with the addition of Stewart International Airport. These airports have continued to serve the growing regional air service demand with record levels of aircraft operations and passengers for the system as a whole. JFK achieved record levels of aircraft operations and passenger traffic and added 17 additional destinations. Newark achieved record levels of international passengers and added 8 additional destinations. Daily departures and destinations also continued to grow at LGA. Stewart reached record levels in passengers.
