Mr. Vijay Mahajan ‐ Chairman ,BASIX Group

Vijay Mahajan, 57, is the Founder and Chairman of the BASIX Group (www.basixindia.com), which promotes livelihoods of two million poor households. Vijay established BASIX in 1996 and it offers financial services including savings, micro‐ credit and micro‐insurance. BASIX also provides fee‐based agricultural, livestock and non‐farm enterprise development services to individual producers, and institutional development services to bring such producers into groups. Earlier, in 1983, Vijay co‐ founded PRADAN, an NGO deeply involved in livelihood promotion.

Vijay served on the boards of major Indian NGOs and several major Indian policy forums such as the Rangarajan Committee on Financial Inclusion, the Committee on Financial Sector Reforms and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. Vijay co‐founded AP‐MAS in 1999 and Sa‐Dhan in 2000 and the Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) in 2008, as institutions for strengthening the microfinance sector in India. In 2010, Vijay was elected Chair of the ExCom of the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP).

Vijay studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and was a mid‐career Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, USA. He co‐authored a book “The Forgotten Sector” and has written over 20 published papers and 60 articles. Vijay was selected as among the 60 “outstanding social entrepreneurs of the world” at Davos in 2003 and among the 50 most influential Indians by BusinessWeek, Asia in 2009. In 2011, the Financial Express named him among twenty Indians who will lead India’s reforms in the current decade.

Ms. Hyma Vadlamani : Chief Operating Officer –BASICS Ltd

A graduate of Economics and post‐graduate in management from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Hyma has close to 20 years of experience in corporate and developmental sectors. Hyma has been in various roles in Titan Industries, (a TATA Group company ) cutting across sales, product management, retail and marketing and as an SBU head. She was a part of the core team set up to build a strong IT‐enabled enterprise (through implementation of ERP across manufacturing, supply chain, sales, marketing and finance functions) in order to improve information flows, streamline core processes and enhance the overall efficiency of the organisation. Hyma was part of the team that was responsible for the execution and monitoring of a business excellence framework that the TATA Group had instituted across all the group companies (called the TATA Business Excellence Model that is adapted from the renowned Malcolm Baldrige archetype). In 2001 ,Hyma joined Arvind Brands as the Business head and in 2002 was made the CEO of Arvind Murjani Brands. Hyma then also worked as a free lance Consultant in the areas of Business strategy, marketing and retail (advised Apple, Herbalife, PwC). In 2009,Hyma moved to the development sector as the Business Head of Maya organic, a social enterprise set up by Mr. Solomon Prakash (Ashoka Fellow and now Country Head‐ India of Ashoka Foundation) . The mission is to organise unorganised sector workers into self‐managed entreprises for manufacturing and marketing products of premium quality and great design for domestic and export markets, thereby setting up a strong social enterprise brand.

Hyma has joined BASIX Group in the Consulting organisation in January 2011 and has moved into the current role in April 2011. Hyma is based in Bangalore.

Mr. Mohan Raj Bhagirathi, Associate Vice President‐ Finance & Accounts, BASICS Ltd

Mohan Raj is a Post Graduate in Commerce and Financial Management, presently pursuing CFA has more than 14 years experience in Financial Management. Joined BASIX in January 1998 as an Executive – Accounts and has got an opportunity to work in all the group companies in BASIX which was initially comprised of four subsidiaries. Was part of the team involved in developing the operational policy, annual business plan, business projections, fund raising, debt raising, handling donor audits, statutory audit, developing MIS, establishing internal controls, audit systems, etc. Has developed Accounting systems and procedures, Fund Management and Management Information Systems for the Projects such as SDC Corpus Fund, SDC Livelihood Triad Fund, Livelihood And Microfinance Promotion Fund (LAMP Fund) and Bhamashah Project. Was part of the team involved in setting up three new subsidiaries BASIX Consulting and Training Services Ltd., BASIX Krishi Samruddhi Ltd. and BASIX Sub‐K iTransactions Ltd in 2010 to meet the growing needs of the Group. Further, in setting up accounting systems and procedure, MIS, Internal Controls, developing business plans for fund raising both debt and equity for these new entities. Mohan is based at Head Office in Hyderabad. Mr. Anoop Kaul : National Head of Financial Inclusion of BASIX Group

A post graduate from the Delhi School of Economics he worked with the State Bank of India for 35 years before joining BASIX in 2007. While in State Bank he held senior level positions in the State of Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi and and Bank’s Central Office and seen all aspects of Banking and Financial Sector. When he was in Gujarat, SBI deputed him to Government of Gujarat where he worked as Deputy Secretary, Mines, Energy and Power, to look after Joint and Associate Sector projects as well as sick units. Later he was on deputation to GE Capital at Delhi where he worked as Chief Financial Officer in SBI Credit Card joint venture. In BASIX, he was the Chairman of the Livelihood Promotion Initiative under which 4.1 million BPL families were enrolled for Financial Inclusion in just 45 days, a global record. He is a Director on the Board of Basix Academy for Building Lifelong Employability [B‐ABLE] and earlier was a Member of the Governing Council of BASIX Academy for Livelihoods and Microfinance Practice[BA LAMP]. He is on the Executive Committee of Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Ltd., an NBFC and the flagship company of BASIX Group. He has held Director‐level positions in few companies in Gujarat and Maharashtra and also been visiting faculty to Administrative Staff College of India, IIM Lucknow and ICFAI Hyderabad and to Training Institutions of various Banks. Mr. Anoop Kaul is based in Delhi.

Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Vice President and Head of the International Consulting Rajeev Gupta has 13 years of professional experience. He is a Post Graduate in Forest Management (PGDFM), from IIFM Bhopal in 1998. He started his career as Assistant Manager, Plantations with Central Pulp Mills Ltd. Gujarat. In 1999, he joined EDA Rural Systems in Gurgaon and later moved to Rajasthan, and worked on non‐farm microenterprise promotion, sub sector and cluster promotion. In 2002, Rajeev joined BASIX and worked in microfinance operations, building capacities and transforming other MFIs, designing and implementing farm and non‐farm enterprise models in rural areas; also co‐designed the State level livelihood and microfinance strategies for , Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. In December 2005, Rajeev was deputed by BASIX as Project Director to set up Rajasthan Mission on Skills and Livelihoods (RMoL), one of the innovative livelihood partnership models between UNDP, Government of Rajasthan and BASIX. RMoL has been contributing to designing, piloting and facilitating implementation of livelihood schemes and policies on various issues ranging from enterprise promotion, youth employability, health, farm and non‐farm sector promotion, financial inclusion services, apart from influencing government programs and departmental effectiveness. In 2008, Rajeev as part of the core team implemented Phase I one of the largest Financial Inclusion program in India which covered 4 million women/households as part of the Bhamashah Scheme of Government of Rajasthan. From April 2009, Rajeev joined BASIX Consulting and Training Services Ltd and has been developing business and furthering BASIX Mission in countries of Africa, Pacific and South Asia and South East Asia. He has written papers on crop varietal selection and non‐farm opportunities for smallholder agriculture.

Mr. T Mahender, Manager, BASIX Group Office

Mahender is Manager in Bhartiya Samruddhi Investments and Consulting Services Ltd. A Post Graduate in Commerce and Corporate Secretaryship, Mahender has about 16 years of experience in the areas of corporate governance, finance, regulatory and internal compliance. The key areas include matters related to Corporate Governance and Secretarial services, Secretarial / Compliance Audit, RBI and Statutory Compliance. He was responsible for the legal inception of group companies through ensuring registration under the necessary acts, he has also been responsible for ensuring strict compliance with rules and regulations under acts such as the Companies Act, NBFC, FCRA, Societies Registration Act and other laws applicable for the group companies. He was involved in obtaining necessary approvals for External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) from the Ford Foundation, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Developpement international Desjardins (DID), filing of ECB Returns and ensuring the repayments including interest payments. He was responsible for drafting proposals to the Banks and Financial Institutions for seeking financial assistance. He was involved in assisting on execution of investment agreements for the first round of investments in Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Ltd (BSFL) a group company of BASIX from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Shorebank Corporation and Stitching Hivos Triodos Fonds, HDFC and ICICI Ltd in one of the group company – Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Ltd in the year 1999.

The company secretarial services extends to all the group companies which include KBS Bank, BSFL, IGS, BASICS Ltd., BASIX Consulting, BASIX Sub‐K, BASIX Krishi. The tasks include preparation of documents for the Board, General Body Meetings, Audit Committees and maintenance of statutory records and registers, preparation of Board Minutes and follow‐ups on action taken points, filing of returns. He is also involved in tasks related to Chairman’s office such as monitoring tasks of Strategic Business Units and other Group companies, ensuring completion of tasks with external investors and stakeholders; arranging meetings with investors, policy makers, Government and key functionaries. He was also with KBS Bank for four years ensuring compliance under the Companies Act and the Banking Regulation Act including facilitating RBI Annual Financial Inspection, drafting proposals for financial assistance, deposits mobilisation, reporting to financial institutions/bankers, coordinating General Meetings, Board, Audit, Executive and other Committee Meetings from preparing background papers, interacting with directors and shareholders, drafting minutes and maintenance of statutory records and registers.

While he was with BSFL and KBS Bank, he was also in liaisoning and reporting to financial institutions, funding institutions, bankers and funders. Apart from this, he was also responsible for supporting and assisting the Chairman in setting and running of Sa‐ Dhan, the Association of Community Development Finance Institutions and Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN), an microfinance industry network.

Mr.Vigyan Vikram Singh, Vice President, BASIX and the Project Director, RMoL

A B.Sc.(Life Science) graduate and post‐graduate Diploma in Cooperative Management from NCUI, Delhi, Vigyan Vikram Singh has close to 29 years of working experience in the field of Microfinance, Cooperative Management, Agribusiness Development, Livelihood Development and vocational Skill Training Programs across different parts of the country in Rural India. He started his career as Field Supervisor in M.P. Oil Federation in Sep, 82 and left this organization in Aug, 2000 on the position of District Manager. After leaving M.P. Oil Federation, Vigyan joined BASIX in Sep, 2000 and worked in establishing, expanding and strengthening its Microfinance operations in various capacities in the 7 states. In December 2010, Vigyan was deputed by BASIX as the Project Director (still holding this position), Rajasthan Mission on Skills and Livelihoods (RMoL), one of the innovative livelihood partnership models between UNDP, Government of Rajasthan and BASIX. RMoL has been registered as a Section 25 company in the month of August, 2010 and since then Chairman of RMoL is the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan. As a PD, RMoL Vigyan has been contributing in designing, piloting and facilitating implementation of livelihood schemes and policies on various issues ranging from enterprise promotion, youth employability, health, farm and non‐farm sector promotion, financial inclusion services, apart from influencing government programs and departmental effectiveness. As a PD, RMoL, Vigyan has also been actively associated with various sections of government right from the office of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Rajasthan for policy issues and governance matters to line departments at ground level. He is also the Public Relation Officer (under RTI Act) for RMoL. RMoL has so far impacted livelihood of about 2 lakh households; and the number is growing geometrically.

Vigyan has immense experience in implementing policies & procedures for delivery of rural finance / microfinance services (spearheading few livelihood projects in collaboration of Rabo Bank, ITC, Responsible Soya, Rag Pickers, etc. across the states of MP & Uttarakhand. He has got the expertise of working with a wide variety of bilateral and Multinational organization including ADB, World Bank, UNDP, IL & FS. He has adeptly managed hundreds of rural extension professional and cooperative institutions. He has also made record in establishing and expanding the Microfinance & Livelihoods Operations in A.P., M.P., Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand & U.P. He has also attained comprehensive exposure of banking operation and agri‐business development in foreign countries (Thailand and USA). He has proactively handled the livelihood issues; attended a number Seminars/ Workshops/ Training Programmes on Micro Finance/ Livelihoods/ Migration/ Health Issues of Poorers/ Education of the Poorer/ Gender Issues/ Good Practices for HR, etc.

Mr. Navin , Manager , Social Perfformance T. Navin is currently working as Manager (Research and Social Performance Management) in BASICS Ltd., and has been with BASIX since December 2005. Navin has about 9 years experience in Development sector. He has a Post Graduate & M.Phil degree in Political Science from Hyderabad Central University (HCU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) respectively and holds Post Graduate Diploma in Management of Non Governmental Organizations (PGDMN) from Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII). His key skills are in the area of Research & Analytics, Project conceptualization, Knowledge building, Process Documentation and Donor Reporting. Navin started his career as Program Officer in Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS). He was associated in conceptualizing and coming out with proposals on building employability among unemployed youth, linkage of school dropouts with open schooling system, building technical school with community college concepts, Agricultural Training Resource Centre for building the concept of Agricultural Entrepreneurship, Mobile School for Street Children, Watershed. In BASIX Navin is associated with Microfinance and SPM related researches such as Social Indicators Project (SIP), A livelihood intervention in Women’s Enterprise (ALIWE), Social Rating, Microfinance for Decent Work, Impact Assessment study (2010), etc., He has also been part of external research assignments on Tribal issues, Suicide & Debt studies, Employment & Unemployment studies, Consumer Expenditure studies, livelihoods in Left wing extremism affected areas etc

Amarnath S : Special Advisor to the Chairman, BASICS Ltd

Amarnath is a graduate in science and Bachelor in Law from Osmania Univeristy. He started his career in the year 1970 as Sales Supervisor in Sarabhai Chemicals, then moved in to ITC Ltd and then to ITC Agro Tech. He joined BASIX as a consultant and his first assignment on Groundnut intervention successfully led to Future Search workshop at Anantapur involving the top functionaries of the district. In Adilabad, he set the ground for cotton intervention with the farmers implementing IPM practices and in the process he was instrumental in developing Koutla‐B MACTS. He had assumed the role of Managing Director, BASIX Krishi Samruddhi Ltd in 2010. In this role, he steered the organization into setting up operations across 4 states in the first year and building a strong team that is capable of leading the high growth phase for the next few years.

Staring September 2011, Amarnath has been playing the role of Special Advisor to the Chairman, BASICS Ltd ,supporting the Group in critical areas such as building strong partnerships with other Institutions working in livelihood promotion, linking BASIX to various programmes that are run under CSR initiatives, identifying opportunities of working with the Government in reaching the poor and assisting in carrying the BASIX agricultural services knowledge to other development countries.
