Comics I did this project because I love space and I wanted to see if there were any planets that could contain life. This is what I found… Here is a comparison between two sunsets the one on the right is a red dwarf and the one on the left (earth) is a yellow dwarf.

This is a comparison of earth and kepler. kepler is %10 larger than earth. Jessica Meir Jessica Meir worked most of her life to achieve this one dream and now that it's happened she's sharing her joy with the world. Jessica Meir, a native of Caribou, , was the first person in space from her state, Maine. She was born on July 1st, 1977. NASA Jessica Meir recently launched into her first journey in space on September 25th, 2019. She will be there for a six-month Mission aboard the International Space Station. Jessica Meir was selected by NASA in 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from , a Master of Science in Space Studies from the International Space University, and a Doctorate in from Scripps Institution of . From 2002-2003 Dr. Meir worked for Lockheed Martin's Human research facility supporting human research. During this time she also participated in research flights on NASA's reduced-gravity aircraft and served as an in an for NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations. The Parachute Experiment is an experiment I made to show how a parachute works. I made a parachute out of cardstock. I found a brush about the right , and I taped it to the parachute strings. I timed how long It was in the air from the time that I dropped it to when it hit the ground. The test without the parachute was predictable, it would hit the ground faster. The average time was : 1.03 seconds. The test with parachute got more than double results of the drop time. The average time with parachute was : 2.18 The difference was 1.15 seconds, That’s Not a lot. Well, most parachutes are made of fabric and other materials than I didn't have. With the parachute was so much better because instead of the air just hitting the brush and having a little bit of drag, the parachute trapped the air inside the dome and there was more drag. If the parachute was made with just one piece of paper it would bend outward like an umbrella in a storm and the air would just run off the sides. But, if the sides are domed like a real parachute, it traps air inside and that air keeps the brush up in the sky. Most real parachutes can slow down a rocket ship or a skydiver. Skydivers use different parachutes. My parachute slowed down a brush by about a second and a quarter. ( then again mine was made of cardstock so…yeah). here is a picture of my parachute. What I Learned:

1. I learned that when building a parachute, sometimes it won’t work. Materials matter, air can escape when a tear happens. 2. The weight of the “passenger” will affect how the parachute works. For example, I first tried this experiment with a rock instead of a brush. The rock was too heavy for the parachute and the parachute collapsed. Using the brush it was just about the right weight so the parachute did not collapse but the brush still did have enough weight to measure the time it took to reach the ground. 3. The purpose of a parachute is to slow down moving or falling objects. Air molecules are trapped and this creates air resistance and slows down objects.

The Woodside One Wheelers performed with movie star Patrick Dempsey on Saturday September 28th at the Dempsey Challenge.

Patrick Dempsey addressed the crowd and WOW, “I bought my first unicycle and I was riding it around Buckfield Junior High School,” said Dempsey. He thanked his school shop teacher who juggled in his class, then he tried juggling at home. “I broke 3 or 4 glasses and I knocked a plant over.” He said, “The unicycle and juggling has given me the career I have today. “ Don’t ever give up on your dream there are a lot of setbacks, but in the setbacks you learn the most. When you’re learning how to ride a unicycle is a great metaphor because it’s a balance in life. Sometimes you go too far forward, sometimes you fall back, and you try to maintain the center.” To WOW members he said “I’m just blown away with what you guys are doing. It’s remarkable.”

Dempsey juggled with WOW and rode a unicycle and wore one of our green WOW shirts. Mr. Lewis, a retired WOW coach, previously invited world class juggler Patrick Dempsey to attend a WOW practice. Dempsey was impressed by the program and personally invited the WOW team to The Dempsey Challenge.

Greekymons

What are Greekymons? by Miles You create Greekymons by combining Greek and Latin root words to make a creature. Then, you draw your creature! You also have to give an explanation about your creature using the attributes in the Greek/Latin roots.

Here’s an example: (Greek/Latin) Mar - Sub - Terra - Saur translation: Ocean - Under - Earth - Lizard)

Drawing by Miles It has two tails, one above the other, that join together to make a cave. It has two trees that also join together to make something that looks like an eye. The cave has stalagmites and stalactites that look like teeth so it looks like it has another face. Its back has mountains on it and it floats so it looks like an island. It’s ears are volcanoes and the lava drips of its snout, cools on the water, and it eats it. It’s belly creates a whirlpool that sucks in fish. That is how it eats!

Why Sea Turtles Need To Be Saved

Some species of sea turtles are in grave danger and to stop this I may have a few .

Here is my first , first off we need to stop using plastic straws. In the long run not using plastic straws could save sea turtles and global warming. So it’s a win win.

My second solution is to pick up trash. For example whenever you go to the beach and you see any plastic make sure to pick it up and recycle.

( but make sure if you see any what looks like blue yarn in the water do NOT touch it because it very well could be a portuguese man o’ war (deadly jellyfish ) and those things can kill you )

And finally my last solution is... well not solution really but just imagine life without sea turtles. You can’t right? Well now that is because life without sea turtles would be absolutely dreadful. But you can help by just following these simple solutions.

Your sea turtle friend ,

Katherine T. Compass Scavenger Hunt

By Miles D

Step 1. Find a spot where you want to start

Step 2. Then, hide a paper that says: you’re rich! Or, you win!

Step 3. write down clues that show the number of steps in whichever direction to get to the paper.

Example: 5 steps north, 4 steps east

Step 4. have your friend use the compass and the clues to find the paper.

Step 5. Your last clue should say “search” on it. This means you should look around and try to find the paper nearby.

Step 6. You win!!!

Now you can celebrate and play again!
