He. was educated in North Monaghan Twp. He married the former Reta Hawley. He had been employed until, recently, with Armstrong Bros Ltd. for the past 3 years. He leaves his wife, 1 daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Wm. Jennings) of Lindsay, 3 sons, Douglas, Richard and Dean, all at home, 1 grandchild, 4 sisters, Mrs. Samuel Kinsman (Jean) of Millbrook Mrs. Earl Kimball (Mary)Peterboro; Mrs. John Houghton (Bernice) Peterborough; Mrs. Max Bebee (Doris) of Oshawa and 2 brothers, Robert of Fraserville and Ray of Port Hope. Entombment was at Marmora Protestant Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Cook Michael Logan, Gerald Fluke. Michael Callery. Leonard Davis and Paul Quinlan. Marmora Herald, March 6, 1969 Page 2 RETA ELIZABETH FALLS * Mrs. Reta Elizabeth Falls passed away peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on March 8, 1992 in her 64th year after a lenghty illness. Reta was the only child of Mabel and Malcolm Hawley and was a life long resident of Marmora. She retired from Deloro Stellite, in Belleville, in 1981 and was a member of St. Andrew's United Church. Mrs. Falls was predeceased, by her husband Joseph Falls, but is survived by her mother Mabel and her children Mrs. Allen Fluke (Carolyn), of Marmora, Douglas Falls, of Peterborough, Richard Falls, of Marmora and Dean Falls, also of Marmora. She will be lovingly remembered by nine grandchildren and one great grandson. A funeral service was held at McConnell's Funeral Home on March 11, 1992 with Rev. Kim Warne officiating. A spring burial is planned at the Marmora Protestant cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon Harris, Glen McCaw, William Deline, Reg Brown, Paul Quinlan and Boyd Warren. Marmora Herald April 1, 1992 Page 8 JOHN JAMES FAHEY Requiem Mass for John James Fahey of Matthew Street, Marmora, who died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Peterborough, on Sunday, January 11th, was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church Marmora, by Reverend Father T. G. Scanlan on Wednesday. January 14th. In his 48th year, he was son of the late James John Fahey and the late former Annie Hayes. He was born and educated in Toronto and was a retired stone mason. He served overseas during World War II with the artillery unit, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 389, Havelock. A special service was held at the Howden Funeral Home by the Legion on Tuesday evening. He leaves two sisters: Mrs. Albert Baker (Irene). Mrs. Herbert Ree (Mary), and one brother, Walter, all of Toronto. Interment was in the Legion Plot of Marmora Protestant Cemetery. Bearers were William MacDonald, Bernard McNally, William Nayler, Harold Doyle, Percy Gray, Joe Darrah. James Stevenson for Floyd James Carl Finch of RR 3, Stirling who died July 26 in Stirling. Interment was in Marmora Protestant Cemetery. Bearers were Carl Pollock, Rodger Lake, Rodger Bisson Allen Fluke, George Bailey and Steve Sopha. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Finch, Mr. Finch is survived by his parents, his wife, Debra Herrington, a son, Jason, three sisters, Mrs. Glen McMillin (Donna) of Stirling, Mrs. Richard Stephen (Evelyn) of Campbellford and Debbie, at home, two brothers, Lloyd of Campbellford and Bruce, at home. Born in Peterborough, Mr Finch worked for the Trent Severn Waterways. Mr. Finch was educated in Stirling Senior School and Centennial Secondary School in Belleville. Resting at the McConnell Funeral Home from 2pm Tuesday. Funeral in the Marmora Chapel on Wednesdaty, July 30th 1980 at 1:00pm. Interment Marmora Prostestant Cemetery. FLOYD J. C. FINCH * Mr. Floyd James Carl Finch of R.R. 3. Stirling passed away suddenly on July 26, 1980, as the result of a car accident on Hwy.14, two miles north of Stirling. He was 24 years of age. Mr. Finch was born in Peterborough, Ontario, the son of Clarence and Effie Finch. He leaves one son, Jason of R.R. 4, Marmora; two brothers, Lloyd of Campbellford and Bruce, at home; three sisters, Donna, Stirling; Evelyn (Mrs. Richard Stephens), Campbellford and Debbie, at home; nieces Jennifer and Angelie and nephews Jimmy and Robbie. Mr. Finch was an employee of the Trent-Severn Waterway. The late Mr. Finch rested at the McConnell Funeral Home, Marmora, Ontario, where his funeral service was held on July 30, at 1:00 p.m; with Rev. Stephens officiating. Interment was at Marmora Protestant Cemetery. Pall-bearers were Roger Bisson, Roger Lake, Ernie Fluke, Carl Pollock, George Bailey, and Steve Sopha. 1980 JOSEPH FLETCHER * At the advanced age of eighty-two years Joseph Fletcher passed away at his home in Marmora township on Monday evening. He was a member of a pioneer family and was highly esteemed. In former years he was a noted lumberjack and river driver and was widely known and popular with employees of some of the big lumber companies of forty or fifty years ago. After his marriage he settled on the farm a few miles west of the village, where he has since resided. He was of a quiet and friendly disposition and could tell many interesting episodes of the early days of the township and lumber camps. His wife, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rich. Leonard, predeceased him on January 8th, 1929. He is survived by six children, namely Mrs. Harold Armstrong and Mrs. Harry Dewey, Belleville; Mrs. Fred Mumby, Marmora; Mrs. Alex Johnston, Rednersville; Mrs. Roy Blakely, Marmora township, and Joseph, at home. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice Barlow, Halbrice, Sask. The funeral was held this afternoon, service being conducted in St. Paul's Anglican Church by Canon W. G. Swayne, of Bonarlaw, owing to the absence of Rural Dean A. B. Caldwell. Interment took place in Marmora Protestant Cemetery. Marmora Herald January 9 1941 Page 4 MRS. JOSEPH FLETCHER * Elizabeth Leonard, beloved wife of Joseph Fletcher passed away early Wednesday, morning, after fifty-eight years. She had been in poor health for a couple of years, but was only confined to her bed a short time before her death. The deceased was a daughter of the late Richard Leonard and had lived all her life in the neighborhood. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her, and her kindly nature and many admirable qualities won her very warm friends. Besides her husband she leaves a family of five daughters and one son. They are Mrs. H. Armstrong and Mrs. J. Dewey, Belleville; Mrs. A. Johnston, Campbellford; Mrs. F. Mumby and Mrs. R. Blakley, of Marmora township; and Joe at home. The funeral will leave her late residence at 2 p.m. to-morrow afternoon and proceed to St. Paul's Church, Marmora, for service at 2.30 p.m., after which interment will take place in Marmora cemetery. Marmora Herald January 10, 1929 Page 4 MR. JOSEPH R. FLETCHER * Mr. Joseph R. Fletcher, of RR3 Marmora passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 1989 at Campbellford Memorial Hospital in his 78th year. He is survived by nieces and nephews in Peterborough, Hastings, Belleville and many close friends in and around Marmora. Joe farmed much of his life and was an avid gardener. He was a good friend to many. A funeral service took place on Friday, July 21 at McConnell Funeral Home. Marmora Herald August 9, 1989 Page 8 JOHN FLETCHER * A former well known and esteemed resident of Marmora, died in Kingston Hospital on Tuesday, February 13th, aged 63 years. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fletcher and is survived by one brother, Joseph Fletcher, of Marmora Township and two sisters, Miss Mary Fletcher, of Halbrice, Sask., and Mrs. Chas. Barlow, of Weyburn, Sask. Another brother, Alexander, was killed as a result of a powder explosion. It is expected the funeral service will be held tomorrow afternoon, leaving the residence of his brother and proceeding to St. Andrew's United Church for service. Interment will be made in Marmora Protestant Cemetery. Marmora Herald Feb. 15, 1934 Page 5 MARY FLETCHER * The funeral of the late Miss Mary Fletcher was hold on Monday afternoon Service was conducted at the home of her brother, Mr. Joseph Fletcher, by Rev. C.W. Hollingsworth and interment took place in Marmora Protestant cemetery. The late Miss Fletcher was seventy-five years of age and was a former highly esteemed resident of this vicinity. For quite a number of years she was employed in the Ontario School for the Deaf at Belleville. She afterwards held a position in the West for some years and for the past year or so had lived in Toronto. She was for many years a devoted member of the Methodist or United Church.
