Sep 27, 2012 07:00 BST HTC 8X Stuns the Competition

With the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Nokia Lumia 920 being released this year, HTC want to claim back some market share with the new Windows Phone 8X. It marks the end of being able to just get an iOS or Android premium phone, and it shows that you don’t necessarily need to have a Sony to have an amazing camera. HTC were very pleased to announce that the camera is the best in the industry at the moment.

The camera might not have the supreme megapixels of the Sony but with 8MP and the most important part, it has an f/2.0 lens, as well as a single LED flash. This makes low-light pictures so much easier to take and coupled with a 1080p video camera, it makes buying a separate digital camera a waste of money. There is an ultra-wide-angle lens on the front- facing camera, which is 2.1MP, and this is perfect for video calls to your friends on . What really makes the camera good is the fact it can perform macro shots, which has a smashing depth of field and good focus. Noise suppression isn’t the greatest but only those with a really sharp eye for photography will notice.

Many people feel that the camera is only missing image stabilisation, which would tighten up the images perfectly. To give you an idea of the rest of the HTC Windows Phone 8X, you get a stunning 4.3” Super LCD display, which is on-par with many of the top premium . It comes with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual core processor, that helps the zero-lag shutter and it has 1GB RAM that helps massively with loading up the images and videos. For those budding photographers, you can hold 16GB of storage and thanks to the 1800mAh battery it will last for many photo shoots. It will come with NFC, WiFi and LTE so you can connect as fast as possible and to many different types of connections. There is Dr Dre’s Beats Audio so you can listen to your favourite tunes with perfect sound quality. What’s more, there will be a vast array of vibrant colours that the handset will be available in so you can have a funky-coloured HTC Windows Phone 8X. It will be released soon in the UK and it will be available from Carphone Warehouse deals, as well as running on carriers such as Virgin, T-Mobile, Orange, , Three and O2. It marks the change in smartphones that are available for everyone, as it’s not just Apple and Samsung any more. Of course, there have always been other phones but with BlackBerry sales going downhill almost every month it seems there is market share up for grabs and other manufacturers apart from the top two makers are battling for position.
