Commissioners Court Communication AGENDA DATE : April 22, 2013 \ COMMISSIONERS COURT CONSENT OR REGULAR: Regular COMMUNICATION CONTRACT REFERENCE NO (IF APPLICABLE): SUBJECT: . Discuss and take appropriate action to amend the current policy regarding County purchases of cellular phones for employees. Further, discuss and take appropriate action regarding the purchase of cellular phones for Commissioners Court and staff. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION OF TOPIC: Currently, the County does not provide or subsidize cellular phone service for employees, except in very narrow circumstances. In an effort to mitigate any potential concerns over the use of personal technology, the current County cellular device policy should be examined to consider providing cellular devices for the Commissioners Court and their staffs. As the Commissioners Court is the main body in the County that is subject to the Texas Open Meetings Act, and in an effort to ensure that all communication by Commissioners and their staffs is easily accessible and available for public review, the Court should examine the public benefits of providing Commissioners and their staffs with cellular devices. FISCAL IMPACT: An estimate generated through the State of Texas’ DIR plans/offers is approximately $11,997.36 That is approximately $55/month/user. CONTINGENCIES FUND (GADMINGF–6872) PRIOR COMMISSIONERS COURT ACTION (IF ANY): (See Above) RECOMMENDATION: Amend the County cellular device policy to provide service to the Commissioners Court and their staffs. Further, authorize the acquisition of cellular devices for the Commissioners Court and their staffs. This makes low-light pictures so much easier to take and coupled with a 1080p video camera, it makes buying a separate digital camera a waste of money. What really makes the camera good is the fact it can perform macro shots, which has a smashing depth of field and good focus. Noise suppression isn’t the greatest but only those with a really sharp eye for photography will notice.
