    Ballade celte A la découverte des musiques celtiques Novembre 2008 Qu’est ce que la musique celtique ? Celle des anciens pays celtes ? Beaucoup d’européens pourraient alors s’en réclamer, ce qui ne viendrait jamais à l’idée d’un autrichien par exemple. On peut ajouter au critère géographique le critère linguistique. La musique celtique correspondrait aux régions qui ont su garder vivante la langue de leurs lointains ancêtres : Bretagne, Irlande, Écosse, Pays de Galles. A ce stade on ne peut cependant que constater la grande diversité d’un pays à l’autre. Quel point commun existe-t-il, en effet, entre la prestation d’un pipe-band, un kan ha diskan de derrière les fagots ou un reel irlandais ? Il convient donc d’envisager résolument le pluriel quand on parle de musiques celtiques. Même si l’utilisation systématique de certains instruments, tel l’emblématique cornemuse, contribue à unifier le son, du moins à leur conférer un indéniable air de famille. Certains, comme Alan Stivell discernent quand même des éléments qui seraient techniquement inhérents à celles-ci : une préférence marquée pour la gamme pentatonique plutôt que diatonique, une certaine complexité de l’interprétation, un croisement de la mélodie, un « swing » celtique issu d’un mouvement constant entre rythme binaire et ternaire. Quelle que soit la manière dont on les définit, les musiques celtiques proposent un patrimoine d’une grande richesse et offrent l’exemple exceptionnel de traditions que les peuples ont su conserver et redécouvrir pour mieux les transmettre. Les musiciens et chanteurs ont fait preuve de beaucoup de créativité pour faire évoluer cet héritage, afin qu’il reste vivant et attractif.

    BIO TIGRAN HAMASYAN In its ever-evolving state, jazz invites into its fold imaginative artists who freely and courageously pursue their own vision, not only built on tradition but also infused with their own personality and passion. In the case of pianist/keyboardist Tigran Hamasyan, potent jazz improvisation fuses with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia. Tigran is one of the most remarkable and distinctive jazz-meets-rock pianists of his generation. Tigran’s fresh sound is marked by an exploration of time signatures, charged dynamics, the shifting between acoustic and electric modes of expression, all undergirded by an affinity to the grind of heavy metal. Born in Gyumri, Armenia, in 1987, Tigran grew up in a household that was full of music—his father more of a rock fan while his uncle was a huge jazz buff. When he was just a toddler, Tigran gravitated to tape players and the piano instead of regular childhood toys, and by the time he was 3, he was working his way through figuring out songs on piano by the Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Queen. His jazz tastes early on were informed by Miles Davis’s fusion period, and then around the age of 10 when his family moved to Yerevan, he came to discover the classic jazz songbook under the aegis of his teacher Vahag Hayrapetyan, who had studied with Barry Harris. Tigran chose to study music. While he studied classical music at an Armenian high school geared toward music studies, Tigran continued to grow on his own as a jazz pianist.

Ladies and gentlemen, we bring you Richard Bona!” -Los Angeles Times BIO Fans call him “The African Sting,” critics call him a pro, but it’s his unique and electrifying style of connecting with his audience that titles him what he really is—a true musician. Richard Bona’s seemingly effortless voice, fierce skills on the bass, unique songwriting/arranging expertise and ability to learn just about any instrument simply from watching, position him as a rare African artist to have established an unscalable reputation on an international platform. Originally from Cameroon, Bona remains true to his roots, with African rhythms reflected in each of his seven albums; the first three, Scenes from My Life, Reverence and Munia display his unique approach to storytelling through sounds. Seeking inspiration from his origins, the themes of Bona’s albums address international issues which mirror his desire of using music to take a stance on issues affecting the oppressed. As an artist with a purpose, he expanded into new musical territories and teamed up with Congolese star, Lokua Kanza and Antillais singer/composer Gerald Toto to create the 2004 collective, Toto, Bona, Lokua on which Bona wrote four tracks. The trio then hit the road and toured across France; however, Bono remained in Europe to tour with guitarist Mike Stern and guest star on Japanese guitarist Kazumi Watanabe's album "Mo Bop 2." Shortly after, the pair embarked upon a tour of Japan, providing Bona with the opportunity to incorporate the culture and sounds of a new territory into his work.
