The Hamlet on the Island ILBORGOSULL’ISOLA THE HAMLET ON THE ISLAND. 1 A stone’s throw from Milan, and in the heart of Lombardy, Lake Iseo is a tourist destination of surprising beauty, which in many ways remains still hidden from the masses. It has a discreet charm consisting of opposites and contrasts. The sweet natural beauty of the lake, the advanced technology of the sailing, the worldliness of the Millemiglia, ILBORGOSULL’ISOLA the tradition of Franciacorta, the organisation of the hospitality and, in the midst of all these, the peace and silence of Montisola AN EXCLUSIVE itself. Not a break but rather a destination goal for the visitors more OPPORTUNITY discerning about the authenticity of their travelling. IN MONTISOLA. Recognised as one of the “MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES IN ITALY”, MONTISOLA is the heart of Lake Iseo. In its timeless atmosphere, the Old HAMLET OF SINCHIGNANO is reborn through an informed and traditional restoration. The noble splendour and humble crafts of the rural SIXTEENTH CENTURY are revived in the exclusive residential complex of the hamlet of DECIMOSESTO. A parenthesis in history and tradition that opens itself up to the land artist Christo. New visions and unusual communal lives in www.avraileisure.it the silence of the lake: the fishing nets and yellow towels of the artist, the wooden boats and the engineering of the yachts, the local olive oil and the sparkling wine of Franciacorta. All car-free and well-served. 5 ILBORGOSULL’ISOLA AN HISTORIC The MANOR HOUSE, with two floors inhabited by the nobles and an attic, for the servants, overlooks the ancient courtyard. OPPORTUNITY. It faces the RUSTIC HOUSE. It has stables and cellars below, with inhabited rooms on the first floor and barns on the second floor. Today, as it was then, the large attic overlooks the inner square. The PORCH is also full of charm, with its open loggia. The NOBELMAN’S VILLA, to the west, overlooks the lake and the Eastern Lombard mountains that surround it, from its terrace on the TOWER. www.avraileisure.it 7 River pebbles form the cobbling of the square and Sarnico stone was used for the reconstruction of supporting walls and exterior paving. These five thousand square metres are still imbued with the noble aura of the Brescian bourgeoisie of the sixteenth century. The hamlet of ILBORGOSULL’ISOLA Decimosesto has seen the beginnings of a growing tourism. Lake Iseo and, particularly, Montisola, have always been aristocratic ports of call, distinct from the normal channels of mass tourism and its inflation. BORGO SEICENTO: Decimosesto is not just a home, it is a wealth that generates wealth. THELA CASAVALUE OF HOSPITALITY. At the time, the pressing of the grapes and of the olives gave origin to the WINE AND OIL OF MONTISOLA, which today are A MONTISOLA. the certified quality produce of the region of Lombardy. The restoration has enhanced the historical instruments preserving the PRESSES AND BARRELS. Fully restored are the cellars, the porches, the arches and capitals, the open which were at the time used to store hay and other agricultural products. This is a glimpse of authenticity in which Montisola and its TYPICALITIES are fully revived today. From housing to commercial areas, the setting of the hamlet of Decimosesto is an opportunity for comprehensive hospitality. The www.avraileisure.it theme of a return to tradition, just like the dried river sardines, the fine olive oils and excellent local wine, is also the background for a future in which one discovers that being happy is the only goal of man. 9 ILBORGOSULL’ISOLA BORGO SEICENTO: EXPONENTIALLA CASA APROSPECTS. • Energy Conservation, Renewable Energy Sources and Costs
ENERGY CONSERVATION, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES AND COSTS INTRODUCTION In addition to a condition of absence of energy consumption for temperature conditioning, lighting and innovative electric household appliances, a building built on a new conception, can produce an excess energy, making it available to others. If most of the buildings were built by this conception, we would have completely solved the problem of energy, pollution and indiscriminate exploitation of fossil fuels. Energy conservation and renewables energy sources are undeniably the paths to which we have to turn with seriousness. To date, many hybrid building solutions have been proposed, usually characterized by a traditional building system working with the new systems, such as those of insulation, solar collectors or solar cell panels, which installed without sufficient coordination produce unnecessary raises of the construction cost. The concerns are always inevitable. One answer is an intelligent building using innovative materials that reduce the construction costs in comparision with the traditional hybrid construction. The application of these technologies will be evident in the creation of a center of excellence in Lonato, in agreement with the Province of Brescia and the town council of Lonato. BUILDING THE CURRENT SITUATION By now it is known that the Italian buildings heritage is composed of a significant amount of unsold new buildings built with traditional construction, while the majority of towns and cities are built around ancient villages and old towns. It becomes difficult to believe that these buildings protected by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, will be abandoned in favor of the new buildings that have no value added, not even of a noticeable energetic kind.

  • Enjoy Culture, Nature and Relax on Lake Garda
11 JULY 2012 CATERINA POMINI 5605 ENJOY CULTURE, NATURE AND RELAX ON LAKE GARDA Lake Garda is a wonderful place to spend time. Go and get the opportunity to try/engage in sports such as windsurfing, sailing, kayaking or simply relaxing on a beach fronting crystal clear waters. Located halfway between Venice and Milan, the largest of the Italian lakes also boasts countless towns and villages where visitors can enjoy both nature and culture... This classic three-day itinerary takes you to Sirmione, Manerba del Garda and Gardone Riviera, all included in the province of Brescia. Very well known for its imposing Scaliger Castle, Roman ruins and thermal springs, Sirmione rises on a peninsula at the southern end of the Lake, which is said to house the ruins of Catullus' villa: the so- called Grottoes of Catullus. As mentioned above, the town is also well worth a visit for its thermal establishments , where you can relax and take advantage of a multitude of spa treatments. Surrounded by a moat, the charming 13th-century Scaliger Castle dominates the narrowest part of the Sirmio promontory and offers fantastic views over the Lake and the old town centre; the Fortress also houses a small museum with local finds from the Roman era and some Medieval artifacts. We recommend that you spend the night in Sirmione and leave for Manerba del Garda (approximately 40 minutes drive) very early on the morning after. According to the legend, the town was established in honour of the goddess Minerva. The most famous attraction in Manerba is definitely the Parco Archeologico Naturalistico Rocca di Manerba del Garda, an archaeological park and nature reserve protected by UNESCO.

  • The Brescia – Iseo – Edolo Railway
THE BRESCIA – ISEO – EDOLO RAILWAY The railway line Brescia-Iseo-Edolo is 103 Km long and it winds from Brescia to Adamello through Franciacorta, after riding along the coast of the Lake Iseo and after going across the Valle Camonica. This line was inaugurated after a lot of years of discussions and projects. The 21st of June 1885 the first train went from Iseo to Brescia via Passirano-Monterotondo. The way was 25 Km long. Overcoming a lot of technical difficulties (about 40 tunnels to dig and hundreds of bridges and viaducts to buy) and several economic one, the line was lengthen until Edolo in 1909. This new line was directed by SNFT (Railway and Tramway National Society). The opening of the line gave birth to new flows of goods. These flows brought the decision in 1911 to build a new stretch between Iseo and Rovato, in order to avoid the stretch very steep via Monterotondo and allowing goods to arrive easily to the line Milano-Venezia and so the whole land. At the same time a new junction stretch opened between Paderno and Bornato Calino. The events of the 1st World War pointed out also a military importance of this line: a lot of troop trains went up to the Valle Camonica transporting men, animals and supplies toward the front of Adamello. Meanwhile the SNFT went on with its expansionist policy. In 1932 the works on the line ended with the construction of the stretch Rovato- Soncino-Cremona, inaugurated step by step (in 1914 Rovato-Soresina; in 1926 Soresina- Cremona).
