This series of three lectures was given through the auspices of the Baltimore County Public Library in 1977. At the conclusion of these lectures Mr. Barnes suggested that enough interest had been shown to possibly organize and share in a genealogical club. The club was organized and held its first meetings in the Towson Library meeting room. The President for the first years was Angela lardella, and in January 1981 she was succeeded by Evelyn Pierce. In May, 1982, Tom Hallowak was elected to the Presidency and was in turn followed by Robert Barnes. Of course you should know that among the others who started the club that Robert Barnes name continues to be listed in several capacities. In between stints as Editor of THE NOTEBOOK he has found time to be President, author several books, many articles and book reviews. In September of 1984 the BCGS moved to the home we continue to this day. The meetings on the fourth Sunday of the month always start with an hours research time in the extensive genealogical library that the new quarters allowed us to keep. A short business meeting is followed by a social period with refreshments, and is ended with the speaker of the month. Technical Notes The following index's were entered on a Macintosh computer using the database program Claris Filemaker Pro. It took several months of part time work to complete this project, with the idea of publishing this index for the fifteenth anniversery of the Baltimore County Genealogical Society. Please note the following items: 1: Issues number 1 through 30 cover from 1977 through 1985 as Volume I. 2: Issues starting with Feburary, 1986 (or whole number 31) start Volume II, No. 1. and continue with a standard 4 issues per volume per year. 3: The naming convention uses the Whole Number or Issue Number followed by the page number. Therefore 5:1 would correspond to whole number 5, page 1. Starting in March, 1991, whole numbers continue as above while the page numbers are consecutively numbered for each year. • The Genetic and Functional Basis of Three Inherited Cutaneous and Gastro- Intestinal Diseases in Humans
The genetic and functional basis of three inherited cutaneous and gastro- intestinal diseases in humans Matthew A. Brooke Supervisor: Professor David Kelsell A Thesis submitted for the degree of PhD Centre for Cutaneous Research, Blizard Institute Barts & The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London 1 I, Matthew Alexander Brooke, hereby declare that the work presented in this thesis is my own, unless otherwise stated, and is in accordance with the University of London’s regulations for the degree of PhD Matthew Alexander Brooke 2 Abstract This thesis describes investigations into the genetic basis and pathophysiology of three distinct inherited diseases in humans, two of which are strongly associated to the function of the ectodomain sheddase enzyme ADAM17. The first of these is a novel inherited syndrome of neonatal onset inflammatory skin and bowel disease, which is associated in a consanguineous family with homozygous loss-of- function mutations in ADAM17. This thesis describes investigations of the expression and function of ADAM17 – and downstream proteins it regulates – in an individual affected by this disease. This is accompanied by genetic investigations into other individuals suspected of suffering from the same syndrome. The second investigated disease is Tylosis with Oesophageal Cancer (TOC), an inherited cutaneous disease which represents the only known syndrome of familial oesophageal cancer susceptibility. This disease was associated to dominantly inherited mutations in the Rhomboid protein iRHOM2. This work describes investigations of immortalised keratinocyte cell lines and tissues derived from TOC-affected individuals, and illustrates that the pathogenesis of TOC is characterised by increased iRHOM2-dependent activation and activity of ADAM17, and upregulation of the shedding of ADAM17 substrates, particularly in the EGFR ligand family, accompanied by increased desmosome turnover and transglutaminase 1 activity.

  • Acknowledgments Many People, for Many Years, Have Discussed The
Acknowledgments Many people, for many years, have discussed the need for a record of the Brethren assemblies in North America. David Rodgers, long associated with Emmaus Bible College and assemblies in Iowa and elsewhere, is one of these, and is the person who has done most to promote and encourage the writing of this book. He has provided continuing encouragement and has been an invaluable help in identifying and contacting people who could provide information, and urging their cooperation. Emmaus Bible College, in the persons of Chancellor Dan Smith, Librarian John Rush, and several of the faculty, has been indispensable to this project: the Chancellor with his encouragement; the Librarian with his willingness to put the resources of the library at my disposal and for answering lots of questions; and the faculty who in several ways have encouraged me along the way and critiqued portions of the manuscript at various stages of writing. Many respondents to the questionnaires sent to them have done much more than provide information about their own assemblies; they have provided assistance in the form of information and contacts for other assemblies. Many people have patiently responded several times to my repeated questioning. When I have been reasonably satisfied with a draft for a certain region of the continent, I have sent it to a reviewer for comments, corrections, and additions. The assistance provided by the reviewers has been invaluable. Many reviewers have supplied a great amount of additional information and have obviously spent a considerable amount of time and energy in doing so. To all these people, indispensable to this project, I give my heartfelt thanks.
