ANSWERS BUSINESS, ENERGY AND INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY Boilers: Fossil Fuels Mohammad Yasin: [99703] To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what steps he is taking to reduce the use of fossil fuelled boilers; and if he will introduce targets to phase them out. Kwasi Kwarteng: In order to meet our net zero commitment, we must transition away from fossil fuel heating systems. We are developing policies to support the deployment of low carbon heating supporting consumers financially to help them transition away from fossil fuel heating through initiatives such as the Renewable Heat Incentive. We are spending £2.8bn between 2018 and 2021 through the Renewable Heat Incentive, to support the deployment of low carbon technologies such as heat pumps. We also recently launched the Green Homes Grant vouchers scheme meaning homeowners and residential landlords can receive up to £5000 towards the installation of an approved low carbon heating measure. In due course we shall be setting out our proposals for the decarbonisation of heat in the Heat and Building Strategy. In addition, in the Future Homes Standards

I love Eastbourne & Willingdon, it’s my home, and I have a clear plan to secure a brighter future for us all. intouch In Upperton, I have been campaigning with your ward councillors for better safety measures at RESIDENT’S ADVICE SURGERY NEIGHBOURHOOD PANEL UPPERTON DOG SHOW St Thomas a Becket junior school. One of my sons is a student at the school, and as a mother, 3rd Saturday monthly Quarterly 7pm at Communitywise, Gildredge Park. ensuring the safety of children is absolutely a top priority. My background is in teaching, so I 9.30am - 10.30am at Waitrose. Ocklynge. Sunday 9th August know that this is a priority shared by those who work in the school. Working with residents, Next: March 21st and April 18th Next: 2nd April parents and teachers, we have handed in a petition to East Sussex County Council, asking them to look at the issue. Through my work on the Council, I have taken strong action to cut down on the irresponsible trading of strong liquor - something that causes anti-social behaviour and street drinking in our CAMPAIGNING FOR VISIT TO town centre. Local businesses and Upperton residents living in and near the town centre have expressed a real concern about this GORRINGE ROAD issue. CHILDREN TO BE SAFE ON ALLOTMENTS I have been working to a clear plan that will secure a brighter future for my home town, and everybody in it.

However, it was agreed that I should write, as the OAs form part of my portfolio. Overview As you know, the OAs are 12 areas with historically poor educational attainment and low social mobility; they form part of my Department’s contribution to the Government’s ambition of levelling up. We invested £72m in the OAs over the first three years of the programme (2017-20), and are investing a further £18m this year. This note details some of the things we have invested in and the impact we are having. However, it is important to explain upfront that the OAs are not just 12 sets of initiatives. Each one is taking a place-based approach to achieving lasting culture and system change. The changes in each area are chosen to respond directly to the specific local context. They are co-designed by local leaders, and therefore have longer-lasting buy-in from them. The aim in each area is not just to run a successful set of one-off initiatives but to strengthen the local system’s capacity to sustain and improve itself in the longer term. This place-based approach is even more important in the context of Covid.

Introductions 1.1 Chris Heaton-Harris and Chris Leslie welcomed members to the AGM of the East Midlands APPG, highlighted the objectives and opportunities of the APPG and potential issues for collective action. 2. Election of Officers 2.1 Chris Heaton-Harris and Chris Leslie were unanimously elected as co-chairs of the East Midlands APPG. 2.2 Nigel Mills was elected, and Liz Kendell subsequently confirmed, as co-secretaries of the East Midlands APPG. 1 3. Proposed Focus of Activity for 2016-17 3.1 Stuart Young gave a brief presentation of some of the key priorities for the East Midlands (attached). 3.2 Devolution and Combined Authorities of increasing significance; with an important role for MPs in supporting progress. 3.3 APPG Members agreed that there should be a focus on a limited number of significant issues for the region, and learn from previous successes, e.g. MML, A453, and A46. 3.4 Council leaders highlighted the existing agreement (by all 45 councils in the region) of 5 regional transport investment priorities.

    New MP Briefing: Education The Vuelio political team have put together a briefing on first time MPs with a background in education. Robin Millar Robin Millar was elected as the Conservative MP for Aberconwy in December 2019 with a majority of 2,034. Millar's professional career began in engineering, allowing him to work across the UK, Russia and America. After leaving engineering, he became a management consultant and businessman, focused on public sector reform and government. Prior to being elected, Millar was a Conservative Councillor in Suffolk. He is the former Deputy leader of Forest Heath Council and was a member of the Suffolk County Council's Cabinet until 2018. During this time, he started an assisted reading programme in local- schools and is the co-founder of a small charity investing in young people. Millar has said he will move to Aberconwy following the election result. During his campaign he highlighted key policy issues as: communities, climate change, poverty, and Brexit. Beth Winter Beth Winter was elected as the Labour MP for Cynon Valley in December 2019 with a majority of 8,822. Winter was born and raised in Cynon Valley, where she still lives with her husband and children. Prior to her election to Parliament, she worked as a communications officer for the University and College Union Wales. She is committed to the area and has served in community groups working with young people. Caroline Ansell Caroline Ansell is the Conservative MP for Eastbourne who was elected in 2019 with a majority of 4,331. She was also previously the MP for Eastbourne from 2015 to 2017 beating Stephen Lloyd, the Lib Dem.
