LEATHERSTOCKING COUNCIL 2018 ANNUAL REPORT from the council president Community. Giving. Scouting. Three simple words that cover so much. The Leatherstocking Council accomplished much in 2018. We did it in our community, we did it with you, we did it for you, we did it with your support and it was all accomplished under the ideals of Scouting. The Boy Scouts of America teaches our members about leadership, the value of working towards a goal, about ideals that can unite all of mankind as brothers and John Devlin sisters. We teach the value of giving back to the community and the underpinnings of it all are found in the Scout slogan… “Do a good turn daily...” Leatherstocking Council President We are proud to watch our new concept, Blizzard Camp, take root and expand in 2018. The Boy Scouts of America took notice and sent a crew to Camp Kingsley to cover the event for Boy’s Life magazine. We look forward to expanding it and allowing Scouts from all parts of our great nation to come and experience…the Blizzard! Henderson Scout Reservation is the home to our new Dining Hall and Training Center. We built it on time for the 2018 summer camp season and under budget. This magnificent structure will serve our youth for Scouting’s 2nd Century. We are working to make Henderson “America’s Destination Camp” by partnering with America’s pastime which has its home in Cooperstown…Baseball! We had 66 new Eagle Scouts in 2018. Their service projects totaled 11,645 volunteer hours. To put that into dollars and cents, even at minimum wage, our Eagles gave back the equivalent of $129,260 in 2018 alone. Yet, even that large number is only the tip of the iceberg of the service our Scouts gave back this year, and each year, to our Community. We passed a historic milestone when we expanded our great program to welcome the entire family into Scouting. Our Scouts BSA program was just launched as I write these words. Our nation’s young women are now in our ranks and we know we will get great things from them. The common theme in all of this is…you. We cannot deliver our program unless you are a part of it. How? By signing your child up for a Troop or Pack. By telling all you meet about the adventure, the experiences and the learning that is Scouting. Through your annual contributions to support Scouting in the Leatherstocking region and finally through your generous donation of your time and skills. And so my friends I conclude with another simple word…You. There is no Scouting without Yo“u”. In 2019, the best is yet to come! Sincerely, John Devlin, Eagle ‘82 Council President Leatherstocking Council, BSA Thanks to our volunteers and financial donors, the Boy Scouts of A SCOUT IS America Leatherstocking Council TRUSTWORTHY proudly serves approximately 2,900 Scouts across Delaware, Hamilton, LOYAL Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, HELPFUL Otsego and Schoharie counties in Friendly Central New York.
