Mattersey Post Office Update Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning New facilities at Mattersey Post Office & General Store enabled us this year to take part in this fantastic fund raising event resulting in us raising £421.23 for Macmillan Nurses. The village came together, baking delicious cakes and providing superb raffle prizes at late notice to make this day a huge success and for that we thank you all very much. Villagers came flooding in to buy cakes, drink coffee and get together to help us raise this money and it was lovely to see every one pulling together. There are still some prizes awaiting collection and we would appreciate, if you are the holder of a winning ticket, that you call by and collect your prize.

Post Office Update We are still trying to establish the help and support of The Post Office in relation to modernising and extending our Post Office side of the business. We have recently encountered a few “technical issues” which are not ideal especially when these breakdowns hinder our customers. We were hoping that these issues would prompt them to help us but as yet this help has not yet been forthcoming. We are currently looking to recruit someone to provide cover for annual holidays etc. This casual position includes newspaper preparation and delivery, therefore the applicant must be able to drive, ideally with their own transport and of course be an early riser! The position is initially on a casual basis but with a view to becoming more permanent. Once again, we look forward to seeing you in the store

SHOULD THE NEW AREA IN MATTERSEY CEMETERY HAVE A SPECIAL NAME? As you know the cemetery will soon be extended to include the field beyond the current ground. There has been a suggestion that this area should be given a name. The Parish Council would like to hear your suggestions and comments. At the moment the existing areas are known as ‘new’ and ‘extension’. Perhaps you think it should be named after a war hero’s family or a particular landmark or something from the history of the village.

16 EVERTON GARDEN HOLDERS

FINE DINING FOR EVERTON GARDENERS It may have been a horrible wet evening outside, but the Gardeners were enjoying a delicious meal inside for their Annual Dinner. This year we again stayed in the Village Hall with wonderful food provided by Nigel Bower. Judging by the clean plates and appreciative comments it was much enjoyed by us all. Thanks to Nigel for his food and to all who helped to make it such an enjoyable evening. November sees us preparing for Christmas when we have a Christmas wreath-making demonstration from Linda. Everyone is welcome to the meeting, so come along and see how to deck your front door in a very special way this Christmas. Everton Village Hall on Monday 11 November at 7. 30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there.

THE WILD WEST COMES TO EVERTON October may have seen us strutting our stuff with the “Sisters of Tribellica” , report in next month’s Mag, but in November we learn of some very different ladies when David Skillin comes to talk about Cyclones in Calico, the ladies of the American Civil War. So who were these ladies, and what did they do. Come along to Everton Village Hall on Monday 18th November at 7.30 and learn about their amazing story. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

POPPY APPEAL We are now rolling into this year’s appeal and again I would be very grateful for any help you can give in the supermarkets collecting. We are in ALDI, ASDA and Morrison’s in Retford from Monday 28th October to Saturday 9th November and if you can spare a couple of hours I would be very grateful.
