Robinson Equestrian ‘Requisite’ Horse Trailers – Warning of Potential Floor Failure Robinsons Equestrian retailer has sent out more than 150 letters to all owners of its Requisite trailers with timber flooring, warning of potential problems following a story in Horse & Hound (news, 4 August). It has also temporarily removed the trailers from its website.

The letter, dated 2 August, states that Robinsons has "recently been made aware of a small number of instances where the integrity of the wooden floor structure has become compromised".

The letter asks owners to check for extra "give" or a "springing feeling" from the floor to assess whether the trailer is at risk and to examine the underside of the floor, which is covered in a fibreglass membrane for signs of weakness. Robinsons started fitting aluminium floors last autumn — the company says the decision was part of a "natural progression".

Managing director Jim Bentham said: "We fervently believe this is a bad batch of timber, and we are in conversation with our supplier, who has been on holiday." He added: "I would be happy to travel my horse in a Requisite trailer with an aluminium floor or a well-maintained timber floor."

Horse Watch strongly advises anyone who owns any horse trailer or lorry to regularly check the condition of the floor. This check should include not only the floor itself, but also the trailer / vehicle chassis; the newest strongest floor in the world is no good if the supporting structure is weak or rotten.

General Crime Message for all our communities in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Areas

As we approach the autumn and winter months of this year bringing with it the dark nights we must all be aware of the security of our homes businesses and other property.

It is a disappointing fact that recent crime statistics for our areas highlight that in the majority of cases, in relation to domestic house burglary and business premises, entry has been made by the criminals not by

15 Hampshire Horsewatch Bulletin (Incorporating Information From Around The Country)

Date 7th September 2011 forced entry but by windows and doors being left insecure by their owners. Therefore here is an ideal opportunity for us to prevent such easy pickings for the offenders by making sure that we are doing the simple basic things, like making sure all our doors and windows etc are locked securely and even reminding our friends and neighbours to do the same should we see any insecurity in their properties.

Making sure that we are all checking these simple things should also ensure that our crime figures will be even lower than they are now and keeping the criminals’ opportunities to a minimum.

However having said all that, it must be remembered that the county of North Yorkshire continues to be one of the safest and lowest crime areas in the country, and your dedicated local Safer Neighbourhood Teams of Police officers, Community Police Support officers and Special Constables continue to work hard on your behalf. ______

Be Aware of These Recent Incidents • Scrap of any sort and even metal that isn’t scrap but is valuable will disappear like magic if it’s left

21 Hampshire Horsewatch Bulletin (Incorporating Information From Around The Country)

Date 7th September 2011 unattended. • Diesel thefts from tanks, large agricultural vehicles and commercial HGVs is being stolen. Please take advice from your insurance companies as to how to store it safely. There are now many cheaper alarms and systems which can alert your mobile phone with a text if fuel is being stolen from your yard. • Tack and general equine things are being stolen but it’s mainly commercial premises that are being targeted. (Riding schools and livery yards) Electric fence energisers are at risk as they are so easy to identify and find, so if yours isn’t needed take it out of sight. • Tractors are still being stolen but not as frequently and not in the West Mercia area at this time. A New Holland was stolen from Alvechurch, Worcs when the keys were left in the ignition! Index VX57 EHF. • The previous tractor circulated as stolen (VU03VUA) has been found abandoned but its high sided green artic trailer is still outstanding. • Recent news that two tractors stolen from Dorn, Moreton in Marsh and Wickhamford, Evesham in 2009 have been recovered in Poland which confirms the theory that a lot of these stolen tractors end up abroad. Please call in and report any high sided foreign lorries that are parked up in odd places around the rural area so that they can be checked. ______
