The Men and Women's Varsity softball teams returned from the regional championships held in Okinawa, with both teams finishing in second place and several members recognized for their individual efforts and seven players being selected for the All-Marine try-outs. The men had three individuals selected for the All-Tournament team; Lonnie Dillard, Howard "Duck" Hope and Miguel Ortiz. The women had seven players selected for the All-Tournament team; Mary Richards, Cindy Hasenbaug, Melanie Burkitt, Erica Schnell, Helen Josypenko, Rose Black and Tonya Fields. Seven Marines from Hawaii were invited to the All-Marine Trial camp which is taking place in Cherry Point, N.C., for the women and Camp Lejuene, N.C., for the men.
