For women’s category prospective Malaysian player Ria Natasya Zulkiy will compete with Jiraporn Chinpukdee from Thailand. Ria Natasya was able to advance to the nal after defeating Dwi Tiga Putri from Indonesia at the qualifying semi-nal round with 4-4 score after completing 12 fairway. Meanwhile Jiraporn Chinpukdee was defeated by the Mongolian player Enkhtuvshin Erdine – Ochir with the score of 5 – 2. Competition was on a knock-out basis. Meanwhile, for the men’s category, players from Thailand will be competing amongst themselves to be the champion. Peera Chaisongkram and Siraphop Wannapin were able to defeat their opponents from Indonesia and Uganda at the semi-nal match with 4 – 1 and 6 – 1 scores respectively. The nal match will be held in the morning on 26 October. Initially, the hits competition for these two categories were planned to take place at night on 22 October, due to the unpredictable weather and ooded eld, only the men’s category was able to continue while the women’s category was forced to be postponed to the next morning..

The concentration of six heavy metals such as Cu, Cr, Ni, Cd, Zn and Mn were studied in the soils around Perlis. The aim of the study is to assess the heavy metals contamination distribution due to industrialisation and agricultural activities. Soil samples were collected at depth of 0 – 15 cm in five stations around Perlis. The soil samples are subjected to soil extraction and the concentration of heavy metals was determined via ICP - OES. Overall concentrations of Cr, Cu, Zn, Ni, Cd and Mn in the soil samples ranged from 0.003 - 0.235 mg/L, 0.08 - 41.187 mg/L, 0.065 - 45.395 mg/L, 0.031 - 2.198 mg/L, 0.01 - 0.174 mg/L and 0.165 - 63.789 mg/L respectively. The concentration of heavy metals in the soil showed the following decreasing trend, Mn > Zn > Cu > Ni > Cr > Cd. From the result, the level of heavy metals in the soil near centralised Chuping industrial areas gives maximum value compared to other locations in Perlis. As a conclusion, increasing anthropogenic activities have influenced the environment, especially in increasing the pollution loading.

The numbers of these migrants has been increasing over time due to the assistance of social networks. Many studies have mentioned about assistance of social networks on cross border migration. This study aims to investigate the origins and expansion of social networks in the southern border provinces involving people who migrate to work in Malaysia and also explore the roles of those peoples’ social networks regarding migration to work in food shops in Malaysia. Data were collected by interviewing using a questionnaire. The study was conducted in destination areas in four northern states of Malaysia. The population sample was people who live in the southern border provinces of Thailand and who migrated to work in Malaysia. This study finds that the origin of social network of migrants who went to work in food shops arose from links with kin in Malaysia and also the cultural similarity of the migrants and the people in Malaysia who both speak Malayu and believe Islam. Beyond this, marital relations with Malaysian citizens make the social networking of migrants larger and more complex. The roles of social network have influence on three stages of migration: the pre-migration, the act of migration, and the post-migration. In the pre-migration stage, social networks both at the origin and destination areas, are sources of information about work positions in Malaysia and also provide help in getting jobs.
