MEURSAULT CUVÉE LOPPIN A HIGH LEVEL MEURSAULT. FLORAL AND ELEGANT. TASTING This cuvée has a fine pale primrose colour, full of energy. With attractive fruit and flowers together on the nose, this has the full-on density of classic village Meursault, with a sense of the nuttiness which will develop with time in bottle. The acid balance is just right too. FOOD MATCHING Traditional gougères, mussels in creamy sauce with hebs, grilled fish with fennel. Jéhan Loppin, Archdeacon, in 1656 received Queen Christina of Sweden on the square in front of the Collegiate church of Beaune. Two years later, he pronounced a harangue to Queen Mother Anne of Austria with her son, King Louis XIV, le Roi- Soleil, who signed his name in the book of the Confrérie du Saint- Esprit, at the Hôtel-Dieu. A part of this Cuvée comes from Premier Cru (Les Cras), the other half from village level Les Criots. The Premier Cru Les Gras vines date from 1980. 0.2 ha. of Les Criots were planted in 1997, the balance (0.36 ha.) in 2009. PRESS REVIEW Vintage 2017 January 2020 Vinous - Stephen Tanzer 2017 CHABLIS Antonio Galloni The 2017 Chablis is a silky, perfumed and open-knit wine with lovely depth to play off the lifted floral aromatics. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and white pepper add brilliance to this racy, polished Chablis. 90 The 2017 Chablis Les Lys 1er Cru is powerful, dense and savory with lots of energy. Savory herbs, dried flowers and lemon peel come together in a Chablis that is bright, punchy and full of character. The 2017 is a bit hearty and rough around the edges, but it certainly isn't lacking in depth or intensity. 90 The 2017 Chablis Les Vaillons 1er Cru is resonant and super-expressive. Lemon confit, almond, dried herbs, crushed flowers and mint come together in an attractive, nuanced Chablis that will drink well right out of the gate. The finish dries out just a touch. Otherwise, the 2017 is nicely done. 90 The 2017 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is soft, open-knit and expressive, with no hard edges and plenty of immediacy. Bright citrus and floral character adds lift. There is not a ton of complexity here, but the 2017 makes up for that with its creamy, inviting personality. Hints of orange peel and white flowers linger nicely on the close. 90 The 2017 Chablis Les Vaucopins 1er Cru is bright, precise and lifted. Floral, citrus and spice notes are nicely delineated. MAISON PASCAL CLEMENT GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN “LES EVOCELLES” 2015 PASCAL CLEMENT || Pascal Clement was born in the village of Savigny-les-Beaune to a family of growers, where his father founded the Maison in 1950. After over 20 years as a grower and winemaker in the region – including his time at legendary Domaine Coche-Dury in Meursault - he launched his own micro-négoçiant project in 2012. The wines live in a stunning building built in 1850 with a splendid arched cellar, housing 200 barrels. Pascal works with fifteen farmers / vineyard owners with vineyard holdings across Burgundy, personally selecting and tending the plots he chooses to work with. Pascal’s winemaking philosophy is very non-interventional. All the wines are fermented with native yeasts and undergo malolactic naturally (depending on vintage). In 2016, a “salty” year, the whites all completed malo while in 2015, Pascal chose to halt malolactic. The wines rest in barrel with no lees stirring/ bâtonnage. For reds, Pascal prefers Rousseau barrels and whites are in Damy, Billon, and François Frères. Recently, Pascal started moving to larger 500L casks for aging, finding better balance of wood to wine compared to the 225L Burgundy barrels he had been using. GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN “LES EVOCELLES” 2015 || BLEND | 100% Pinot Noir VINEYARDS | Les Evocelles is located high up the hill at the northwesterly-most point in Gevrey-Chambertin, surrounded by Premier Cru vineyards (Champeaux and Combe aux Moines). The result is a lovely balance between aromatic charm and fleshiness with intense minerality. “Les Casse Têtes” is an evocative name: it is thought that when the land was cleared and planted, the “head rocks” outcropping had to be broken. The parcel covers 0.43 hectares. “Les Petits Charrons” is a 0.43 hectare parcel that follows the road – an old Roman path - that climbs toward the village of Auxey-Duresses. Its name is linked to this path and is a variation on the old French charrau , which means a path by which a cart can pass. The limestone soil is moderately deep. This appellation benefits from early harvesting in order to fully express its terroir to maintain its freshness, which is due in part to the biodynamic work done in this vineyard. The wines, the style Our wines are known for their great aromatic purity. We always favor balance and elegance over power and extraction. The wines are classic expressions of Burgundy, of their appellations in general and of their specific terroirs in particular. The farming methods we use contribute to this individual style, and our winemaking methods aim to avoid excessive outside influences in order to bring out the equilibrium that can be found naturally in Burgundian terroir.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Next Generation Winemaking Team Château de Pommard Welcomes New Assistant Winemaker Eric Pignal POMMARD, FRANCE (December 12, 2017), Famille Carabello-Baum is excited to announce the newest addition to the team at Château de Pommard, Assistant Winemaker Eric Pignal. A young, yet already veteran member of the wine industry, Pignal brings hands-on experience working with renowned winemakers on three different continents. A native of Normandy, Eric studied mathematics and finance at University of Paris Dauphine and initially worked as a financial analyst. But still, he felt like something was missing. He’d often find himself thinking of his father’s best friend Jean-Pierre de Smet – former winemaker at revered Burgundian estate, Domaine de l’Arlot. Growing up, he and his father frequently visited the domaine and it was there that he not only tasted his very first wine, but also experienced his first harvest as a picker. After several vendanges he realized his true calling was not in finance, but in winemaking. And with that, he quit the world of finance, relocated to Burgundy and studied viticulture and enology through CFPPA (Centre de Formation Professionnelle et de Promotion Agricole) de Beaune. Since then, Pignal has worked with winemakers across the globe, including Littoria Wines on the Sonoma Coast, Rippon Vineyard in New Zealand and Australia-based Henshke Cellars. In Burgundy, he has already become quite the personality having worked for some of the region’s finest names including Domaine Dujac in Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Guy Roulot in Meursault, Chambolle-Musigny-based Domaine Georges Roumier, Domain Didier Fornerol in Corgoloin and, of course, three vintages at Domaine de l’Arlot.
