A Disney Specialist's Walt Disney World Travel Guide Honors Thesis (Honors 499) By Samantha Maynard Thesis Advisor: ~~~'-I? /-;§;~ Melvin Sharpe, Department of Journalism Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana Spring 2004 Graduation May 2004 This thesis could not have been completed without the help of several individuals. The support and patience I received made this possible. Melvin Sharpe, Thesis Advisor - Dr. Sharpe led me step-by-step through the processes I needed to complete not only for his requirements but those of the Honors College. His advice was invaluable and his time even more so. Thank you, Dr. Sharpe, for all that you did for me. Amanda Goings and Heather Goad - Two friends who spent more than their fair share of time listening to me prattle on about Walt Disney World, and provided much needed comic relief. Rosalyn Dowling, Disney Travel Specialist - Ms. Dowling helped fuel my fire when it came to creating this project. Her knowledge and expertise were excellent resources. And finally ... My parents, Jon and Debbie Maynard - The support you have given means more to me than you will ever know. My grandparents, John and Betty Maynard - Gramps and Granny, you never stopped encouraging me. This thesis is dedicated to the memory of my Mom, January 30, 1956 - July 28, 2003. Photo in front of the Imagination Institute on my 21 sl birthday, September 26, 2002. This thesis is divided into two distinct halves. The first half is meant solely for the reader to understand why the thesis was created, how it was created, plus the results and conclusions derived from the research.

  • Disney Files 2016
Summer 2016 • Volume • Number2 Forecasts are calling for an unseasonably frigid summer at Disney Parks, as new Frozen experiences crystalize like an icy blast in Southern California and Central Florida (pages 3-4). No longer shrouded in “don’t let them in, don’t let them see” secrecy, these headline-grabbing new additions to the Disney California Adventure and Epcot landscapes have Frozen fandom fl urrying “through the air into the ground,” sending spirits “spiraling in frozen fractals all around!” (For the record, it’s exceedingly hard to type while throwing my hands in the air.) You don’t have to be a six-year-old girl to appreciate the Frozen phenomenon. Whether your world includes a kid singing “Let it Go,” a loved one describing you as “a bit of a fi xer-upper” or good- natured grandparents sweating profusely with the grandkids in line to meet Anna and Elsa – all the while insisting that “some people are worth melting for,” it’s safe to say a Disney fi lm hasn’t left this big a mark on your family’s lexicon since Timon taught the world to speak Swahili. Of course, there’s plenty more to share in the pages ahead beyond the kingdom of Arendelle, including a Disney Vacation Club 25th anniversary timeline of Membership milestones (pages 5-8) a reawakening of The Force at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (page 19) and at sea (page 22), a new way to experience Central Florida through Adventures by Disney (page 20), and a summer movie slate that includes such highly anticipated releases as the Finding Nemo follow-up Finding Dory (page 23) and the bold re-imagination of the 1977 classic Pete’s Dragon (page 24) – the fi rst Disney fi lm I saw in theaters.

  • Parents with Toddlers Babies and Toddlers
Parents with Toddlers Babies and Toddlers (Birth to 2): • Keep in Mind: A child's patience and attention span are limited at this age, so tailor your schedule accordingly. Stick to tame, slow- moving rides, and factor in lots of downtime for feeding, changing, snoozing and cuddling. Schedule just enough to sample the magic without overstimulating baby. You can always come back again in a few years when he or she will appreciate the experience even more. • Parks to See: The Magic Kingdom -- especially Fantasyland and Mickey's Toontown Fair, where attractions are specifically designed for little ones. • Touring Strategies: Head to Fantasyland first. It's where you'll see all the scaled-down classic Disney attractions. If your child slips into her morning nap, relax on a shady bench or check out the charming (and air-conditioned!) Tinker Bell's Treasures shop at Cinderella's castle. From Fantasyland, stroll over to Mickey's Toontown Fair. Break for lunch, then head back to your hotel; or, stay a few more hours and leave after the 3pm parade. If you don't mind disrupting your little one's bedtime routine, hit the park again after dinner (if it's open), head for Adventureland and Frontierland and catch the SpectroMagic parade. • Don't Miss: Cinderella's Golden Carousel: It's a Small World: Dumbo the Flying Elephant; The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh; Walt Disney World Railroad (kids enjoy watching it pull in and out of the station even more than they like riding it); Minnie's Country House at Mickey's Toontown Fair (pint size, with lots of fun buttons and levers for pressing); Toon Park (an interactive play area in Mickey's Toontown Fair where kids can make the animal topiaries "talk" by stomping on lilypads); The new Magic Carpets of Aladdin ride in Adventureland.
