Thrilling Finale to the 2018 Porsche Supercup in Mexico www.porscheroadandrace.com Thrilling finale to the 2018 Porsche Supercup in Mexico Published: 29th October 2018 By: Glen Smale Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/thrilling-finale-to-the-2018-porsche-supercup-in-mexico/ Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: The start of Round 9 Perhaps it was inevitable that Michael Ammermüller took the title, but there was a thrilling finale to the 2018 Porsche Supercup in Mexico. Consisting of two rounds, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, the title went down to the wire in the final round on Sunday. Round 9 on Saturday went to Porsche Junior, Julien Andlauer (martinet by ALMERAS), who celebrated his first win in the international one-make cup. “To climb to the very top of the www.porscheroadandrace.com podium after a Supercup race has been my goal over the entire year. So, I’m over the moon. I had an almost perfect start and was able to gradually pull clear of my pursuers,” said Andlauer. The Dutchman, Larry ten Voorde, then led the field all the way to the flag in the 16-lap race but he was judged to have performed a jump start and was handed a ten-second penalty. This handed victory to the 19-year-old Andlauer in Round 9. www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: At the start of Round 9, Julien Andlauer leads Michael Ammermüller and Larry ten Voorde into the first corner Following on Andlauer’s rear bumper was the points leader, Michael Ammermüller, but he was put under constant pressure by his teammate, Thomas Preining (BWT Lechner Racing). The 32-year-old Ammermüller said after the race, “It was a difficult race and my aim was to bring home as many points as possible. A collision would have been devastating for my title chances. Tomorrow I want to be crowned champion for the second time in a row.” www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Michael Ammermüller leads teammate Thomas Preining into a corner in their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars Preining drove a flawless race to finish in third place, securing his fifth podium finish of the season. “That was a crazy race with lots of duels. I just couldn’t find a way past Michael, so I had to settle for third place,” said 20-year-old Preining. Nick Yelloly crossed the finish line in fourth place with his Dutch teammate Jaap van Lagen in fifth. www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Nick Yelloly (Fach Auto Tech) corners hard in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup After 9 of the 10 races completed the Drivers’ points standings were Pos Driver Team Points 1 Michael Ammermüller BWT Lechner Racing 137 2 Nick Yelloly Fach Auto Tech 128 3 Thomas Preining BWT Lechner Racing 121 Final round www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: At the start of Round 10, Julien Andlauer and Michael Ammermüller make a clean get away Once again it was the Porsche Junior, Julien Andlauer (martinet by ALMERAS), who dominated the final round of the 2018 Porsche Supercup series to take his second victory of the weekend. But the cool and calm attitude of Michael Ammermüller (BWT Lechner Racing) saw the Bavarian driver accumulating sufficient points throughout the season to clinch the title for the second successive year. This makes Ammermüller only the fifth driver after Patrick Huisman, Richard Westbrook, Jeroen Bleekemolen and René Rast to defend his championship title in this international one-make cup. www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Michael Ammermüller rides the kerb in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup At the start of Round 10, polesitter Ammermüller had the best starting position but he lost it to Andlauer in the sprint to the first corner. Ammermüller, however, could not defend his second place as Yelloly and Thomas Preining put Ammermüller under pressure and on the third lap, Yelloly grabbed the chance to move into second place. Three laps later, Porsche Junior Preining also overtook his teammate, Ammermüller, before chasing down Yelloly and passing him on lap ten. The 20-year-old, however, was handed a three-second penalty due to gaining an advantage by leaving the track. As a result, Yelloly inherited second place ahead of Ammermüller. www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Julien Andlauer leads the pack in Round 10 www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Nick Yelloly drives hard to catch the leaders in Round 10 Ammermüller was overjoyed, “Even if it looked easy today, I was tense to the last lap. I still can’t believe I’ve won the title for the second time straight.” Ammermüller scored his only victory of the season at the opening round in Barcelona, Spain, but with seven podium finishes, it was his consistency that won him the title. A second and third place finish in Mexico was all that was needed to secure Ammermüller his second championship title in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Michael Ammermüller holds up two fingers to indicate his second Supercup title. After crossing the finishing line first on Saturday, the Porsche Junior driver, Julien Andlauer, scored his second Supercup win of the weekend in Mexico City. “It’s fantastic to conclude the season with a double victory. Fourth overall in my debut Supercup season is a great result.” www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Mexico, 27/28 October 2018: Nick Yelloly (Fach Auto Tech) holds up his cup after finishing second in the final round The 20-year-old Austrian, Thomas Preining, finished in fourth place and, in his debut year in the Supercup title race, he secured third place after winning four races. “Had I not received the time penalty I could have done better, but I have to live with fourth place. Still, I fought to the end for the championship. Press Release October 26, 2019 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, champion profile Michael Ammermüller With remarkable persistence: Michael Ammermüller takes the crown Stuttgart. Michael Ammermüller has been a regular on the list of title aspirants in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – and this year is no exception. No other driver has been amongst the top contenders in the Porsche one-make cup for such a long period. To stay at the top of his game season after season takes incredible professionalism. In 2017 and 2018, he was the man to beat in the Supercup and won the championship both years. This season, Ammermüller has once again demonstrated his stamina and ambition. The reward: At the season finale at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, the German claimed his third straight championship title. Ammermüller has contested the Porsche one-make cup series since 2012 – and has impressed with his tremendous consistency. Pole positions, podium finishes and vic- tories became commonplace for Ammermüller. The German has already netted two titles in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, and this weekend he has become champion for the third time. A feat that only Patrick Huisman and the reigning DTM champion René Rast (2010 to 2012) have achieved in the past. In fact, Huisman from the Netherlands won the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup four consecutive times from 1996 to 2000. Confident, disciplined, balanced – this is how people in the paddock of the Su- percup describe the Lechner driver. This year on the racetrack, the 33-year-old com- bined these attributes with determination and a healthy dose of aggression.

  • Perfect Start to the Season for Porsche Junior Andlauer
newsroom Motorsports May 12, 2019 Perfect start to the season for Porsche Junior Andlauer The first race weekend in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup could not have turned out better for Julien Andlauer: fastest in free practice, pole position and victory at round one of the season on the Spanish Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Race – Round 1 “That was a perfect weekend for me. I managed to assert myself in the critical phases of the race – which were in the first laps and at the restart after the safety car phase,” said the Porsche Junior (F/BWT Lechner Racing). At Sunday’s race, Ayhancan Güven (TR/martinet by ALMERAS) and Michael Ammermüller (D/BWT Lechner Racing) scored the other podium steps with their 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers. Andlauer made the most of the restart The 28-strong field from 17 nations treated spectators to an action-packed race on the circuit north of Barcelona. In sunny weather and a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, Andlauer immediately took the inside line after the start in order to defend himself against Güven. The racing driver from Turkey made repeated attempts to overtake the Frenchman, but was thwarted in lap five when the safety car was deployed to enable a vehicle to be salvaged from the track. Andlauer made the most of the restart and used the remaining distance to pull clear of Güven. After 14 laps, the French racing driver swept over the finish line 3.2 seconds ahead of his pursuer from Istanbul. “I had a great duel with Julien Andlauer over the first laps.
