Our volunteers worked extremely hard to pull off this event with such tremendous success. Most of them never quit working – near the end there was Sandy Zeilenski selling posters for a five dollar donation.

Even though this was our premier event for this season; we still have a number of activities left – two DEs at BeaveRun and Mid-Ohio, our annual convoy/brunch at Nemacolin, and our 50th Anniversary “prom”. We will also have our first Speed and Sushi get together this month (kind of like our Wine and Shine but with a dif- ferent slant).

Busted? OnCe in a LiFetime Michael Schindel To say that this year’s PVGP was special would be like saying that a Porsche is just another car. This year’s PVGP was my ‘once in a lifetime’ event. We all know that Porsche was the Marque of the year for 2011, and we all know that 2011 was the BIG 50th ARPCA Anniversary in Schenley Park. These two events alone would rank high on just about any ARPCAer’s list of lifetime events. But the 2011 PVGP was more for me.For the first time, I had a chance to actu- ally race my 1974 911 in Schenley Park. The Porsche Challenge was every owner’s dream.

However, every racing father’s dream is to race side-by-side with his son. The 2011 PVGP offered me that opportunity. My son, Colby, and I raced at both venues, BeaveRun and Schenley Park. Colby drove his 1975 BMW 2002. At BeaveRun, we were assigned to Photos courtesy of the author. the same run group, the BeaveRunLeMans. We were out horse-powered, but not out classed. Colby did great. I ran respectable times, con- sidering I was racing in a car that was driven to and from both races. The lap times didn’t mat- ter. For me, the 2011 PVGP will always be that ‘once in a lifetime’ dream realized.

The 2011 races were over the top. The loca- tions were World Class. The PVGP crew did a fantastic job. Thanks to all involved!

Rundschau 9 10 SePTembeR 2011 PvGP KiCK-OFF raLLy Denny Nill I have been working the Kick-Off Rally event since 2004, route pre-checks, check point crew and the past several years working with the scoring team and posting the results at the Rally end point. ARPCA and Porsche were very well represented at the 2011 PVGP Kick-Off Rally. There were quite a number of Porsche entries with four Porsches finishing in the top 6 positions of the 94 competing teams. The top 4 Driver/Navigator Porsche Teams had the following finishes:

Aaron Hmel and Justin Sickles - 1st Porsche, 2nd overall.

John Laslo and Dwayne Fielder - 2nd Porsche, 4th overall.

Russ “Whipping Boy” Rose and George Patterson - 3rd Porsche, 5th overall, and 1st in the Celebrity category.

Paul and Sharon Miller - 4th Porsche, 6th overall.

This was a very good showing for the Marque and the Club. Hope all of those who competed in 2011 will be back for 2012! Photos by the author.

356 mini hOLiday at PvGP Jolene Cicci Call it fate or whatever, but back in December of last year, I ran into Bud Osbourne and his wife Cindy at a shopping center in Bridgeville. I couldn’t get Ken Jeremiah’s request in the Rundschau for a PVGP coordinator out of my head, but you see, I’ll admit it ... Yes, I’m a workaholic. With that being said, I knew that particular task was out of the question. So I’ll go back a few years when Ken asked for my help in getting some more 356s at the PVGP. Food for thought for the anniversary celebration: 50 356s was my goal, a nice gathering place, a scenic drive, you get the picture. Now here are Bud and Cindy and I’ll throw this at them and see what they think. The answer was yes, and the rest is now history.

356Burgh, founded by Paul Apostalou and Bud Osbourne, jumped on board and things really got rolling -- hundreds of emails to 356 enthusiasts, posts on Talk forums (PVGP has nearly 3000 hits), Facebook (whoever would have thought), flyers and posters made and distributed from the California Swap Meets to Stoddards in Cleveland, Matt Little sending out pics to 356 magazines and web- sites, and the help and support of the 356Registry sent our mes- sage worldwide. We secured a host hotel at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe, made dinner reservations at the historic Century Inn Rundschau 16 Tuesday at the Waterfront brought out a nice display as well as the 356 racer cars at the Bossa Nova on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, the downtown Parade and Car Shows were a big hit with the 356 crowd. On Wednesday evening, Paul Apostalou hosted a dinner for the 356 guests and 356Burgh at a lovely Italian eatery in Upper Saint Clair called Cucina Bella. Thank you Paul from the gang!

Thursday was a 356 invasion of the Hoffbrauhaus in the Southside. Many brave souls traveled in non-air-conditioned cars to a fantastic event. Thanks Paul for the invitation.

Friday was the social and touring day for the 356 group. It all started at Southpointe where the Observer-Reporter did a photo shoot to promote the Porsche event at the PVGP. Next, off to Confluence and Fallingwater in record temperatures. Along the way, a car had a tire blowout and thanks to Duane Smith, Brandon, and the ser- vice department at Sewickley Car Store, everything turned out fine. There was lunch at Rivers Edge B&B, house tour of the spectacular Fallingwater, a cool down dip at Ohiopyle and off to eat dinner at the Century Inn with over 50 356 enthusiasts, including the group from the D.C. area.

in Scenery Hill, group tour slated at Fallingwater, and was delighted to see Paul’s Hoffbrauhaus event added to fill our void on Thursday. Suzanne at our Goodie Store offered to make 356 apparel.

Agenda set and ready to go and then something really special happened. The 356 Registry and the PVGP noticed that 356 reg- istrations were coming in at a steady pace and embraced the group. Jerry Longstreth and Bob Speer got the okay for a 356 tent trackside. The 356 Registry and the trustees donated monies for the tent and other activities including a picnic at our host hotel, Adam Wright donated “goodie bags”, and Restoration Design from Canada became a sponsor, as well as Sarris Candies, CoCo Mats, and Swissvax. Sewickley Car Store donated a lovely gift to the 356 person who drove the farthest. Thank you KC. The Porsche race team got on board and thanks to Rocky Farrar, the drivers and cor- ner workers were slated to join us for lunch, probably a first for the PVGP. Vic Rivera offered to bring his Janis Joplin clone to the event after the real deal fell through because of an unfortunate accident transporting the vehicle from the Grammy Museum to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Now fast forward to the PVGP events. Saturday at BeaveRun, the two PVGP ambassadors, Anita and Brandon, were photographed in Tony Tumminello’s Convertible D for use in the 356 Registry Magazine and the Panorama.

We had a few 356s represented on Walnut Street on Monday: Terrence Orr’s twin grille roadster, Tony Tumminello’s Convertible D, and Duncan Neilson’s very rare matching numbers Carrera 2000GS with a 4-cam factory engine. 17 SePTembeR 2011 ol’ tent under a shade tree, flashing cameras... what else can be said! Another first on Saturday whereas the Porsche race car driv- ers and the corner workers, Lenny Santora family (thanks Michelle Santora for the 356Registry cakes), got to join us for lunch. Dr. Bill Swartz thanked everyone and said that he could hear the roars of the crowd when they approached the turn by our tent. And that was awesome! After the day at Schenley, everyone headed back to Southpointe for a picnic style dinner and German beer, compliments of the 356 Registry. All leftover food was donated to the local police department who provided security for our 356s at the hotel free of charge.

Next morning was Sunday and a more laid back affair. The 356ers had an outstanding turnout at the park and in the Parade Lap. It would be hard to argue that Vic Rivera’s Janis Joplin clone and Duncan’s 4-cam stole the show. The races were fantastic and the 356 group made us all proud. Just a reminder of how fortunate we are to have this venue in our beloved Pittsburgh, all in the name of charity.

There are so many people to thank, so at the risk of forgetting any- one, I wish to thank everyone for all your support.
