SLCC FASHION INSTITUTE project catwalk Fashion Design Competition – 2020

Could the future of our wardrobe lie in technological innovation? What do you envision when thinking about “wearable technology?” This year, the theme for our Project Catwalk design contest explores the influence of technology on the future of fashion. Contest Rules: 1.) Design and sew an original dress consistent with the theme: “Fashion Future Tech” - Your job is to create a an original, contemporary, wearable dress that uses and supports technology. You will want to research ideas regrading technology used in fashion designs to aid you in the design process - examples include garments created to house technology such as: • LED Lights • Phones and Earbuds, etc. • Wearable solar panels used to power the technology

- The technology must be able to work on the runway

- Your dress design needs to fit approximately a size 8 dress form (Bust = 35”, Waist = 26.5”, Hips = 36.5”)

- Your dress design must be able to be worn by a live model *(it must have closures if necessary and be stable for wearing)

2.) Submit an 11 x 17 Presentation Board that includes:

- A front and back view, colored illustration of your dress design (Use markers, colored pencils, or watercolor)

- Photos of the construction process (minimum of 3 photos)

- A typed statement (250 word or less), telling us what inspired you and how you used it in creating your “Fashion Future Tech” design (mount on presentation board) 3.) Then return your finished garment clearly labeled with your first and last name using the following form, postmarked by April 3rd, 2020. You will be judged on creativity, used of technology, and quality of construction.

Send the following form postmarked by April 3rd, or hand-deliver no later than April 6th, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. to the front desk at the SLCC Library Square Campus. All submissions must include:

q A completed copy of the entry form q The finished garment you have sewn (labeled inside with your full name) q An 11 x 17” Presentation Board that includes front/back color illustrations of your design and construction/fabrication photos, and the written explanation (250 words max) detailing your inspiration and how you used it in creating your garment.

You and your instructor will be notified of the finalists via email by April 10th, 2020. The ‘Project Catwalk” Runway Show will be held during our “Project Catwalk” day:

The public is invited to attend - the event is free. Awards will be presented. Participants do not have to be present to win but it sure would be more fun! Winners will be chosen through blind judging by a panel of SLCC Fashion Institute Senior Students and Faculty. All entries may be claimed on the evening of the Project Catwalk runway show, April 17th. Any entries left behind will be donated to charity. Violation of the rules will negate the entry. Questions?
