All Rights Reserved 3 Introduction Roulette is a fairly easy game to learn. Playing it is quite simple. You place wagers on a roulette layout with the various different wagers marked. A beautifully designed wheel, with 37 to 38 different numbers, is spun by a dealer. Where a spinning ball lands determines the outcome of any wager. Each wager is paid off at a different ratio. Some wagers pay off at even money. Others pay off at rates of 2 to 1, 6 to 1, 5 to 1 or even 35 to 1. The highest paying single number bets often get the most attention in books and movies about roulette. James Bond liked to wager on number 17 and, naturally, his wager would always win. As far as I can tell, Mr. Bond employed no skill or strategy in choosing his winning wager. His enjoyed the benefit of what we might call "literary license." Practically speaking, his method of play has no real merit and only worked because he was dwelling in a fictional world where either a book writer or a movie director can order up just about any kind of magic he or she pleases. This book is for the rest of us. If you are extraordinarily lucky, clairvoyant or have some type of gift of prediction, you probably won't need this book. LaMarca’s Power Roulette Strategy © 2018 Silverthorne Publications, Inc. All Rights Reserved 4 However, if you like to gamble or are even thinking about placing a wager in a casino, then you need the strategy and methods I am going to reveal in this book. While millions of people play the game of roulette out of passion and daring, you don't have to be in this camp to pursue the game. In fact, a great deal of my play is actually steady and even dull. Instead of picking lucky numbers or somehow using my strong mental powers or luck to overcome the casino advantage, I use a methodical, sometimes even plodding method to calmly grind away at the casinos’ bankrolls. Yet, as you will discover, my grinding approach yields better results than just about any other approach to gambling. By the way, you won't find me referring to gambling by the euphemism used by modern casino executives - "gaming." To my way of thinking, gaming is more like a friendly game of monopoly played with family or friends. I have no objection to you enjoying your visits to the casino. I try to make the best of mine. However, while most people have reconciled themselves to losing money to the casinos most times they visit, I haven't. In fact, I am part of a small but growing circle of players who gamble primarily for one reason. We gamble because we expect to win. I am going to share this world with you. But, I am going to go much further than filling your head with stories of my gambling successes. LaMarca’s Power Roulette Strategy © 2015 Silverthorne Publications, Inc. All Rights Reserved 5 Unlike some writers, who regale you with tales of their lucky trips or hour long craps rolls, I am going to give you a complete, step-by-step plan you can use to create and then implement a plan to consistently and regularly remove money from the casinos. I am going to leave most of the casino ambience to the group of writers who often represent that they have winning strategies, but are bereft of any real knowledge of how to really beat the casinos. I am going to make one huge assumption about you. I am going to assume that you are interested in gambling in casinos for one major reason. You want to win. This book is really more of a manual that will take you on a step by step journey to becoming a winner. Before we begin what I hope with become one of the most profitable ventures of your life, let me tell you a little about myself, to help put this book and the strategy I am going to give you in full perspective. I am a business consultant with a focus on the financial side of running a business. Most of my clients are looking for no nonsense solutions to real problems. They are not interested in generalizations or guesses as to what they might do. They want real solutions that produce measurable and verifiable results. I confess that I bring my bias towards developing measurable solutions to the world of gambling as well. You will find lots of tables and charts in this book. I won't apologize for having charts filled with numbers instead of spinning clever yarns. I use them to help illustrate everything you need to know to become very proficient at beating the roulette game. LaMarca’s Power Roulette Strategy © 2018 Silverthorne Publications, Inc. All Rights Reserved 6 Unlike most gamblers, I am not a chronic loser. But, I am not going to apologize about that. Instead, I am going to share with you some insights I have learned over many years of fighting the casino bosses. First, I am going to dispel the myth that the casinos are your best friends who really have your best interests at heart. (You never believed this one anyway, did you?) The casinos are there for one purpose. And that is to remove as much of your money as you will let them, hopefully as painlessly as possible. If you are a big player, you may protest about how many considerations your friends at the casino show you. Before you start your argument, please consider one thing. How much consideration would you get if you didn't drop a bundle in their joints? Do they really love you, or are they just after your money? This book is not going to show you how to ingratiate yourself with the casinos. But, I think you may already suspect the answer to that. Just show up with enough money and demonstrate to the bosses your willingness to part with it, and you will have a whole nest of long lost new buddies buzzing around you. Instead of feeding you more of the pap you have come to expect if you have ever read any of the popular books on casino gambling, I am here to deliver some cold hard facts. Here’s the first fact. You can win if you will follow the proven plan I am going to show you. But you may have to unlearn some conventional "wisdom" you have picked up along the way. Let me give you an example of some of the things you will need to unlearn. LaMarca’s Power Roulette Strategy © 2015 Silverthorne Publications, Inc. All Rights Reserved 7 You probably have one of three images in your mind when you think of a successful gambler. If you are a movie fan, then the suave James Bond comes to mind. You think of Bond, James Bond, who picks up the dice, rolls a four and says, "I'll take full odds on the four, $200 on the hardway, a $200 eleven and the limit on all of the numbers," and walks away thirty minutes later with a fifty grand profit and a busty babe in a low cut wispy gown. Right? This isn't Diamonds Are Forever. If this is your vision of your life as a professional gambler, I can't help you. I don't know of any magical way to make a game of chance lavish rewards on you. Or maybe, you have a different vision. You read a local paper announcing that Bobbie Jo Peters of Gods Wrath, Georgia, visited a homey little casino in Tunica, Mississippi, and walked away $2,300,000 richer after playing only ten dollars in a slot machine.

While several betting strategies have been proposed to beat bookmakers, from expert prediction models and arbitrage strategies to odds bias exploitation, their returns have been inconsistent and it remains to be shown that a betting strategy can outperform the online sports betting market. We designed a strategy to beat football bookmakers with their own numbers. Instead of building a forecasting model to compete with bookmakers predictions, we exploited the probability information implicit in the odds publicly available in the marketplace to find bets with mispriced odds. • Searching for Viable Betting Strategies in Gambling, with Consideration to Roulette
Searching for viable betting strategies in gambling, with consideration to Roulette Joseph Toninato UMD University Honors Capstone Project Introduction Gambling is one of the world’s oldest past times. Dice have been found in Egyptian tombs that are dated to be roughly 8000 years old. Since then, gambling has taken many different forms. Cards, dice, slots, wagers on sporting events, all of these fall under the umbrella of gambling. Whatever form it takes, all methods of gambling share the same structure. There is a game of chance, where people place wagers of money or assets or any multitude of things in the hopes of winning some amount of goods that are greater than their wager. Approximately 1.6 billion people worldwide reported gambling in some fashion in 2010. While many of these stated that they played the lottery, a large portion ventured into casinos. One of the most popular and iconic games in a casino is Roulette. This game is thought to originate from a perpetual motion machine invented in the 17th century, and played in its current form since before 1800. Roulette is a simple game in which a wheel is spun with numbered, colored, slots ranging from 0-36, and a double 0, or 00, in the American version. A ball is then allowed to spin around the outside of the wheel and fall into a random slot. This is the winning number. In addition, the numbers are colored either red or black, and the zero or zeros are colored green. A player may make one, or multiple, of many bets.

  • How Egms Work
AGRC DISCUSSION PAPER 8 How electronic gambling machines work EGM structural characteristics Dr Charles Livingstone AUSTRALIAN GAMBLING RESEARCH CENTRE ┃ JULY 2017 AUSTRALIAN GAMBLING RESEARCH CENTRE Summary The purpose of this paper is to provide policy makers, regulators and others with information about key design characteristics of electronic gambling machines (EGMs). These characteristics include auditory and visual cues, “game maths”, and price and prize structure. They also include elements in the games that render them attractive to EGM users, and which appear to be associated with the establishment of persistent game utilisation or addiction. It is hoped that a better understanding of these characteristics will help policy makers and regulators to frame policies and interventions that will reduce harm to gamblers from EGM use. KEY MESSAGES Electronic gambling machines (EGMs) are computers utilising sophisticated techniques, designed to maximise spending and “time on device” per user. EGM designs very successfully employ psychological principals to maximise users’ bet sizes and machine usage. These characteristics have the effect of increasing the addictive potential of EGMs. Users of EGMs, and policy makers as well, are mostly not well informed about the way the machines work, or the complex “game maths” behind them. Internationally, Australian EGMs are known for their ability to maximise users’ spending and “time on device”, yet Australia has been slow to develop adequate policy responses to reduce harms. 2 | Australian Institute of Family Studies What are electronic gambling machines? Electronic gambling machines (EGMs), known colloquially as “pokies”, have their origins in older style lever-operated machines which spun a series of physical reels, on which were portrayed a number of winning symbols.

  • Toward Legalization of Poker: the Skill Vs. Chance Debate Robert C
Toward Legalization of Poker: The Skill vs. Chance Debate Robert C. Hannum* Anthony N. Cabot Abstract This paper sheds light on the age-old argument as to whether poker is a game in which skill predominates over chance or vice versa. Recent work addressing the issue of skill vs. chance is reviewed. This current study considers two different scenarios to address the issue: 1) a mathematical analysis supported by computer simulations of one random player and one skilled player in Texas Hold'Em, and 2) full-table simulation games of Texas Hold'Em and Seven Card Stud. Findings for scenario 1 showed the skilled player winning 97 percent of the hands. Findings for scenario 2 further reinforced that highly skilled players convincingly beat unskilled players. Following this study that shows poker as predominantly a skill game, various gaming jurisdictions might declare poker as such, thus legalizing and broadening the game for new venues, new markets, new demographics, and new media. Internet gaming in particular could be expanded and released from its current illegality in the U.S. with benefits accruing to casinos who wish to offer online poker. Keywords: Poker, games of skill, games of chance, mathematics The game of poker has become enormously popular over the last decade, in large part due to significantly increased Internet and television exposure. Tournament poker, in particular, has become a viable spectator sport with the advent of specialized cameras that allow the television audience to view the hidden cards of the players. This increased popularity and the uneven legal standing of the game in various jurisdictions has resulted in considerable media attention as well as debates over whether certain forms of poker should be legalized.

The objective is to sum up what the literature says about the motives people have for gambling and the factors that influence their degree of involvement in gambling. Suggestions are made as to the usefulness of this knowledge for studies on problem gambling, which often rely on medical concepts of excessive gambling as pathology. This review – citing 434 works – may thus be helpful to scholars, health practitioners and policy makers who deal with problem gambling issues, and of interest also to those with a more general desire to learn more about why people gamble.
