STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS & SPECIAL PROJECTS: ALUMNI RELATIONS

February

FNB Cup - is the collective name for four South African rugby union competitions involving the top rugby playing universities in the country. It was launched in 2008, with eight teams participating in the Varsity Cup competition and each university's internal champions competing in the Koshuis Rugby Championships. It featured the rugby teams of eight universities, with Maties, NMMU Madibaz, NWU Pukke, TUT Vikings , UCT Ikey Tigers, UFS Shimlas, UJ and UP Tuks being the founding members of the competition. Since the inception of the tournament, the title sponsors of the tournaments were First National Bank and Steinhoff International.

Federation Africain du Sport Universitaire (FASU) translated into English Federation of African University Sports was founded in 1951 when the Universities of Ghana and Nigeria started an annual bilateral sporting competition to foster brotherhood. Through the guidance of Dr. Lateef Adegbite other African Universities hailing from all corners of the continent were invited to join, the games have grown in bounds and leaps soaring like an eagle with membership expanding. University Sports (USSA) has agreed to host the 8th FASU Games in July 2016 at the University of Johannesburg and the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa, Gauteng Province.

University of Johannesburg won a bid to host the first of its kind Alumni conference in Africa where Institutions of Higher learning will engage in discussions about the current issues that are topical for African Universities and will table findings & recommendations about charting forward implementing African solutions to tackle Alumni Relations. This event will present a suite of opportunities to Alumni practitioners to create connections that will enable them to exchange ideas about the effort to move the Alumni engagement efforts forward.

UJ Future walk stems from the partnership of UJ & Gauteng Department of Education partnering to raise funds for tuition fees of academically deserving students who are financially constrained and are unable to pay their fees. This was also part of the Institutions celebration of its 10 years of existence, this has been turned to an annual event because there is an increasing need for Institution of higher learning to find alternative pools of supplementing the shortfall from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
