INDIA RANKS 86 AMONG 98 COUNTRIES IN LOWY INSTITUTE’S COVID-19 RESPONSE INDEX  Countries were ranked based on the publicly available and comparable data on Covid-19 response. The Lowy Institute is an independent international policy think tank, located in Sydney.  New Zealand, Vietnam and Taiwan are the top three countries respectively in the index. Brazil was ranked at the bottom of the list for worst handling of the pandemic than any other country. China was excluded from the list due to lack of publicly available data. INDIA SECURES 86TH RANK IN CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX 2020  India has been ranked 86th among 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2020, released by Transparency International. This year, India’s rank has slipped six places compared to 2019, when it was ranked at 80th spot.

ELECTION COMMISSION ROLLS OUT DIGITAL VOTER ID CARDS “e-EPIC”  The Election Commission has rolled out the electronic version of the voters’ photo identity card e- EPIC, which can be stored on mobile phones and downloaded on personal computers.

NITI AAYOG RELEASES INDIA INNOVATION INDEX 2.0  The innovation index ranking is based on five enabler parameters (‘Human Capital’, ‘Investment’, ‘Knowledge Workers’, ‘Business Environment’, ‘Safety and Legal Environment’), and two performance parameters (‘Knowledge Output’ and ‘Knowledge Diffusion’).  In the ‘Major States’ category, Karnataka occupied the top position, followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu respectively.  In UT and city-states category, Delhi topped followed by Chandigarh.  Under the ‘North-Eastern/Hill States’ category, Himachal Pradesh emerged as the top state.

BHAWANA KANTH TO BECOME 1ST WOMAN FIGHTER PILOT AT R-DAY PARADE  Flight lieutenant Bhawana Kanth will become the 1st woman fighter pilot to take part in the Republic Day parade.  She will be a part of the Indian Air Force’s tableau in the 2021 Republic Day Parade that will showcase mock-ups of the light combat helicopter, light combat aircraft, and the Sukhoi-30 fighter plane.

PM MODI LAUNCHES RS 1,000-CRORE ‘ SEED FUND’  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Rs 1,000-crore ‘Startup India Seed Fund’ on 16 January 2021, while addressing the ‘Prarambh: Startup India International Summit’ 2021. This initiative will help in setting up new startups and promote their growth.  The Startup India Seed Fund would support startups in need of initial capital to start and grow their business and help budding entrepreneurs pursue innovative ideas.

The House voted 232-197 to impeach Mr Trump.  The proceedings moved at lightning speed, with lawmakers voting just one week after violent pro-Mr. Trump loyalists stormed the U.S. Capitol, urged on by the President’s calls for them to “fight like hell” against the election results.

CM TRANSFERS RS 224.8 CR TO 10,285 SAMBAL YOJANA BENEFICIARIES  Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the Sambal Yojana provides support to the poor before birth till after death. Under the scheme,four thousand rupees is given before the birth of the child, sixteen thousand rupees after birth, then ex gratia assistance is provided for studies, ration, house, treatment and after death.

MP POLICE DEVELOPS MASCOT ‘GUDDI’ FOR WOMEN’S PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN SAMMAN  Guddi’ the mascot for the state-level women's public awareness campaign 'Samman' has been developed by Madhya Pradesh Police.  Guddi is a 16-year-old girl and socially aware and conscious of his rights. She is able to differentiate between right and wrong. She does not get lured by anyone. The character of Guddi has been developed with the intention of creating ease in comparing girls of 14 to 18 year age group and could relate herself to that character.

SHWETA NEMA CONFERRED WITH ADARSH NARI SAMMAN  Shweta Nema, a researcher at Sanchi Buddhist-Indian University of Knowledge Studies, is awarded the Adarsh Nari Samman. She was conferred with the award by the Ananta Yoga and Ayurveda Research Institute in Rajasthan, Jodhpur.  Shweta Nema has been conferred for the support of building an educated society, social work, healthy, clean and educated society in this honour ceremony organised on the 190th birth anniversary of the country's first teacher Savitribai Phule.

5th EDITION OF VIVEKOTSAV ORGANISED AT MAULANA AZAD INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY  It was organised by the Official Language Implementation Committee MANIT, to spread the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda to the public.

CM inspects progress of Global Skill Park  Chouhan said that the total cost of the project is Rs 1548 crores. Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment Department has got a loan of Rs 967.50 crore from ADB for the skill development project. Madhya Pradesh government is investing Rs 580.50 crore. A skill park will be built in Bhopal in about two years under the project. The aim is to build a world-class skill park before December 2022.

FARMERS CAN SET UP SOLAR PLANTS ON FARM LANDS UNDER KUSUM  The main objective of this scheme is to make farmers self-reliant and economically strong. Under the scheme, farmers will be able to set up solar plant in unused land of their farm either by themselves or jointly with an investor so that the farmer can get a regular income.  To make the farmers self-reliant, the Government of India P.M. A special package of 300 MW Yojana (component 'A') is proposed in which 500 KW to 2 MW set up of decentralized plant based on renewable energy sources in which a farmer, farmer group, cooperative institute, Panchayat, Farmer Producer Organization, Water Users Association and developer are eligible of this scheme by February 20, 2021.

STATE LIKELY TO HOLD GAMES IN 2022  Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that it is a matter of pride for Madhya Pradesh that in- principle approval has been granted by the central government to hold Khelo India Games of 2022 in Bhopal, due approval will be received soon. Two players of Madhya Pradesh, Chinki Yadav and Aishwarya Pratap Singh have made us proud by winning Olympic quota in shooting.  Similarly, 25 sportspersons of the state are getting trained as Olympic qualifiers.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has lauded and congratulated Mahajan, Tiwari andBhuri Bai on being honoured with the prestigious award. He said that Madhya Pradesh is honoured.

MADHYA PRADESH BECOMES FIRST STATE TO GET ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR CAPITAL PROJECTS  Madhya Pradesh has become the first state to get additional funds for capital projects for successfully carrying out reforms in various citizen-centric areas.  The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance has allocated additional 660 crore rupees to the state for capital expenditure for undertaking the One Nation, One Reforms, Ease of Doing Business Reforms, and Urban Local Bodies Reforms.

MP players bag 2 bronze in 23rd Senior Women's National Wrestling Competition  Players of Madhya Pradesh Martial Arts Wrestling Academy Pooja Jat and Raman Yadav bagged one bronze each for Madhya Pradesh in the 23rd Senior Women's National Wrestling Competition held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Both the players have been selected for the India camp for the Tokyo Olympics.  In the Senior Women's National Wrestling Competition, Pooja Jat won the bronze medal in the 53 kg weight category and Raman Yadav in the 57 kg weight category.

CM SHIVRAJ SINGH CHOUHAN LAUNCHES ‘PANKH ABHIYAN’ FOR GIRL CHILD  In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched a new scheme ‘PANKH Abhiyan’ on 24 January, to mark the occasion of National Girl Child Day.  The scheme has been launched under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme for the empowerment and growth of the girl child.  The CM also announced scholarships worth Rs 6.47 crore for 26,099 girls under Ladli Laxmi Yojana.  ‘PANKH Abhiyan’ is a year-long programme. The letter in the PANKH scheme stands for: ‘P’ – protection ‘A’ – awareness of their rights ‘N’ – nutrition ‘K’ – knowledge ‘H’ – health.
