Commencement April 25, 2021 - May 1, 2021 August 6, 2021 May 1, 2021 Commencement April 25, 2021 - May 1, 2021 August 6, 2021 May 1, 2021 Dear Campbellsville University Graduates: Today is the culmination of years of hard work. You have persevered, but this is not the end; this is the be- ginning of the next steps on your path. Thus, we call this “commencement.” The education you have received and the degree you have earned will serve you well as a foundation for the life you are building. Campbellsville University will always be your home. You have been a student, now you are joining an ev- er-growing family of CU alumni, now numbering over 19,000. For 115 years, Campbellsville University has been training servant leaders. Whatever your degree, we hope you take into the world your passion to serve others, better humanity, and live a life that is undergirded by the Christian values on which Campbellsville University was founded. There are many people who have supported you along your journey. From faculty and staff to family and friends, you have been cheered on by many. Now, it is your turn. As you move into this new phase of your life, be an encourager, a supporter, a cheerleader for those who are traveling the road you just traveled. Take time today to show your gratitude to those who have supported you along your journey by paying it forward to others. Congratulations on your accomplishment! Your dedication has paid off. Go into the world continuing to strive for excellence and creating a better tomorrow. Best now and in the future, H. Keith Spears, Ed.D. Interim President Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards The late Algernon Sydney Sullivan was a lawyer in Indiana, who used his legal talents and personal wealth to help those in trouble in his community, sometimes at great personal cost. He and his wife, Mary Mildred Sullivan, remained dedicated to the cause of helping people, and built a reputation for taking on clients who could pay him little or nothing when he believed their cause was just. The New York Southern Society-an organization founded by Sullivan-established the Algernon Sydney Sulli- van Award in 1890, just a few years after his death. The award was created to recognize college students in the south for excellence of character and service to humanity. The Sullivan Foundation continues to recognize, support, and honor service-oriented college students as well as university faculty/staff members and alumni with a demonstrated record of community involvement. At many Sullivan Foundation partner schools, the Sullivan Awards are considered the most prestigious awards bestowed upon students. Campbellsville University was selected in 2002 to participate in this very prestigious awards program that honors the memory and legacy of the late Algernon Sydney Sullivan. CU is one of only 70 colleges and universities approved by the Sullivan Foundation to annually present these awards, and is proud to continue honoring Sullivan’s passion to serve others by selecting two deserving individuals who exemplify the very essence of the high ideals and Christian example of Mr. Sullivan. The Godey Quilt: One Woman’s Dream Becomes a Reality Sandra Staebell The Godey Quilt is a 1930s appliqué quilt composed of fifteen fabric portraits of men and women clothed in fashionable mid-nineteenth century attire. The dream of Mildred Potter Lissauer (1897−1998) of Louisville, Kentucky, this textile is a largely original design that is not representative of the majority of American quilts made during the early 1930s. Notable for the beauty and quality of its workmanship, the quilt’s crafting was, in part, a response to the competitive spirit that reigned in quiltmaking at the time. Significantly, the survival of the materials that document its conception, design, and construction enhances its significance and can be used to create a timeline of its creation. Reflecting Colonial Revival concepts and imagery, the Godey Quilt is a remarkable physical expression of that era.

These films actualize region as a cinematic imaginary through its authenticity markers – caste/ist practices explicitly, which earlier films constructed as a ‘trope’. The paper uses the concept of Heterotopias to analyse the recurrence of spectacle spaces in the construction of Madurai, and the production of caste in contemporary films. In this pursuit, it interrogates the implications of such spatial discourses. Spectacle spaces: Production of caste in recent Tamil films To foreground the study of caste in Tamil films and to link it with the rise of ‘caste- gestapo’ networks that execute honour killings and murders as a reaction to ‘inter-caste love dramas’ in Tamil Nadu,1 let me narrate a political incident that occurred in Tamil Nadu – that of the formation of a socio-political movement against Dalit assertion in December 2012.
