I'm not sure who these people are, but they certainly aren't the team I know and love. I really loved the Torchwood-as-a-day-job stuff, most particularly the almost cosy idea of them rescuing a pair of pensioners from an alien flu just before it went critical, and picking them up off the floor to tuck them up in bed with some tissues and a rehydrating drink with added retcon. The script is a first draft, and clearly Eve Myles was not allowed to read it before the recording started. Eve Myles reads this but again, not my favourite narrator, she doesn't have the animation of some of the male cast members - or perhaps it's just the heavy Welsh accent I find less engaging. Cancel Save settings. It's competently written, there are some interesting ideas in it that develop aspects of the Torchwood universe, and I am particularly taken with the secondary character of Mr Dine. The Border Princes , much like Torchwood , was an organisation which studied the Rift and contained the things that came through it. Well known for his comic book work, he has scripted everything from the Mr Men to the X-Men in the last two decades. If you like Torchwood a good read. Snark is good, funny one-liners are great, ribald comments from Jack a must. Lucy's life was going as smoothly as any teenager's could. However, I do admit Gwen is a very complicated human but I can't see her leaving Rhys in the way that she does here. More filters. Reviews Review Policy. The only character who really comes into play in this one is Gwen who ditches Rhys and starts a passionate affair with James - now that's not out of character - I mean she does have an affair with Owen in the show - it's just again rather dull and we don't get enough reaction either from Rhys or the rest of Torchwood about the imprudence of such a liaison I could cope with lack of character if the story was gripping - but it's not - it' all over the place.

DOCTOR WHO AND THE CREATION OF A NON-GENDERED HERO ARCHETYPE Alessandra J. Pelusi 85 Pages December 2014 This thesis investigates the ways in which the television program Doctor Who forges a new, non-gendered, hero archetype from the amalgamation of its main characters. In order to demonstrate how this is achieved, I begin with reviewing some of the significant and relevant characters that contribute to this. I then examine the ways in which female and male characters are represented in Doctor Who, including who they are, their relationship with the Doctor, and what major narrative roles they play. I follow this with a discussion of the significance of the companion, including their status as equal to the Doctor. From there, I explore the ways in which the program utilizes existing archetypes by subverting them and disrupting the status quo.
