Есть дис­ трибутивы, клоны Slackware, созданные именно с этой целью, типа Аbsolute, но все же лучше создавать систему под себя, с максимальным учетом именно своих потребностей, и Slackware пожалуй как никакой другой дистрибутив подходит именно для этой цели. Легкость и быстрота системы определяется выбором WM (DM) , набором программ и оптимизацией программ и системы в целом. Первое исключает KDE, Gnome, даже новые версии XFCЕ, остается разве что LXDE, но набор программ в нем совершенно не устраивает. Оптимизация наиболее часто используемых про­ грамм и нескольких базовых системных пакетов осуществляется их сборкой из сорцов компилятором, оптимизированным именно под Ваш комп, причем каж­ дая программа конфигурируется исходя из Ваших потребностей к ее возможно­ стям. Оптимизация системы в целом осуществляется ее настройкой согласно спе­ цифическим требованиям к десктопу. GNOME is a suite of X11 GUI applications that provides joy to users and hackers alike. It has been designed for extensibility and automation by using CORBA and scripting languages throughout the code. GNOME is licensed under the terms of the GNU GPL and the GNU LGPL and has been developed on the Internet by a loosely-coupled team of programmers. 1 Motivation Free operating systems1 are excellent at providing server-class services, and so are often the ideal choice for a server machine. However, the lack of a consistent user interface and of consumer-targeted applications has prevented free operating systems from reaching the vast majority of users — the desktop users. As such, the benefits of free software have only been enjoyed by the technically savvy computer user community. Most users are still locked into proprietary solutions for their desktop environments. By using GNOME, free operating systems will have a complete, user-friendly desktop which will provide users with powerful and easy-to-use graphical applications. Many people have suggested that the cause for the lack of free user-oriented appli- cations is that these do not provide enough excitement to hackers, as opposed to system- level programming. Since most of the GNOME code had to be written by hackers, we kept them happy: the magic recipe here is to design GNOME around an adrenaline response by trying to use exciting models and ideas in the applications.

Linux has developed to the extent that it is the leading operating system on servers and other big iron systems such as mainframe computers, and the only OS used on TOP500 supercomputers (since November 2017, having gradually eliminated all competitors). It is used by around 2.3 percent of desktop computers. The Chromebook, which runs the Linux kernel-based Chrome OS, dominates the US K–12 education market. In the mid 2000’s, Linux was quickly seen as a good building block for smartphones, as it provided an out- of-the-box modern, full-featured Operating System with very good device driver support, and that was considered both scalable for the new generation of devices and had the added benefit of being royalty free. It is now becoming very common in IoT devices, such as smart watches/refrigerators, home controllers, etc. etc. BTW, Tux is a penguin character and the official brand character of the Linux kernel. Originally created as an entry to a Linux logo competition, Tux is the most commonly used icon for Linux, although different Linux distributions depict Tux in various styles. The character is used in many other Linux programs and as a general symbol of Linux.

Copyright law should adjust the rights of content creators in order to compensate for the ways they reduce the usefulness of the information environment as a whole. Copyright law should take information overload externalities like search costs into account in its treatment of alleged copyright infringers whose work merely attempts to index, organize, categorize, or review works by providing small samples of them. These categorizers are not "'free riding" off the labor of copyright holders. Rather, they are creating the navigational tools and filters that help consumers make sense of the ocean of expression copyright holders have created. The new scholarship of cultural environmentalism lays the groundwork for a better understanding of the costs, as well as the benefits, of copyrighted expression. Any expression that signals something to one who wants exposure to it may constitute noise to thousands of others. By modeling information overload as an externality imposed by copyrighted works generally, this article attempts to provide a new economic justification for more favorable legal treatment of categorizers, indexers, and reviewers.
