A POWERFUL ZOOM NEEDS OPTICAL IMAGE STABILIZATION This 42x zoom lens has the power you need to take dramatic closeups or get remarkable shots of even distant subjects. But with long-distance zoom shots, even a tiny bit of hand shake has a huge effect on picture quality. That's where image stabilization comes in. 's Advanced O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) shifts a corrective lens as you shoot to eliminate the effects of hand shake, so you get clear, sharp, blur-free shots even at high zoom levels. It's an essential feature for getting the most out of this incredible zoom lens.

To call it NEW is an understatement...

Perhaps in-NEW-vative is a much more appropriate description for the LUMIX G1. Discover the G1 at panasonic.ca.

14 — Moments to Memories • winter ‘08 fotosource.com foto101 Today you are faced with so many choices when it comes to making a decision on what digital camera will be best for you, that the task can seem daunting. Point & Shoot vs. DSLR By Bruce Kemp

What to buy…what to buy? On offer are Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras for every skill level and interest from advanced amateur to absolute beginner. On the other hand, retail outlets are chock-a-block full of Point & Shoots (P&Ss), some of which come close to rivaling many of the entry-level DSLRs features. For the not-so-avid photographer, there are basic P&Ss offering less bells and whistles with a price to match. When you’re in the market for a new camera, the question becomes, “Where do I begin?” Start with what makes the two types of cameras different. The most obvious difference between them is the fact that lenses on DSLRs are interchangeable, while P&Ss are not. Changing lenses gives the photographer a wider number of options in terms of telephoto power or angles of view.

Why would you want to change the lens on your camera? In situations where you want to photograph extremely wide panoramas or you need to get close-up shots – think of your little one at the opposite end of the hockey rink or sailboats out on the water. With a DSLR you can attach a super wide-angle lens that can give you up to 180° of view or a telephoto lens that lets you bring distant subjects and scenery close enough to fill the entire picture without you moving one step closer.

Birds are fast—so you’ve got to be faster. That’s what inspired Canon to create the new 10.1-megapixel EOS 40D, with a powerful DiG!C III Image Processor and 6.5 frames-per-second shooting. Paired with a blur-reducing Canon EF Image Stabilizer lens, you won’t miss a single wingbeat. You can even take advantage of IS technology with Canon’s 10x42 L IS WP binoculars.
