  • Bih: Bosnia, the Land of Great Hydro Power Potentials
BiH: Bosnia, the land of great hydro power potentials Bosnia Herzegovina is one of the European countries with the richest water resources. Projects to build a series of hydroelectric power stations in Republika Srpska, however, are endangering a delicate environmental balance. Report. “In 2004 the government of Republika Srpska awarded a contract for the construction of two dams on the river Vrbas, a few kilometres from Banja Luka. We started a protest, forming a coalition against the project. Since then 8 years have passed and, also thanks to our mobilization, the dams have not yet been built.” Miodrag Dakić, of the Banja Luka Centre for the Environment , remembers one of the more successful civic battles in the recent history of Bosnia Herzegovina. The victory of the environmentalists could soon, however, be called into question. The Republika Srpska, RS, one of the two entities which, on the basis of the Dayton Peace Agreement, make up Bosnia Herzegovina, has now been governed for almost 10 years with little interruption by Milorad Dodik, the present President and leader of the SNSD party. During these years, the RS has transferred ownership of its precious assets to Serbia (Telekom Srpske), Russian business groups (Zarubezhneft, which bought the petroleum refinery at Brod and Yuzhuralzoloto, which has the Sase mine at Srebrenica) and global corporations (Arcelor Mittal, owner of the Liubija and Omarska mines at Prijedor). Energy – in particular the granting of river sections for building dams – seems to be the most recent strategy for attracting foreign capital. The story of the contracts for the dams on the river Vrbas, however, shows that not all takes place transparently.

Generally speaking, the relations between the two countries in past quarter of century has been smooth and without major incidents. Despite of the issues that exist in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s institutional and political system, China and Bosnia and Herzegovina did manage to find a way to push through several large infrastructure and energy projects, upon which further development of relations can be based. Currently, the explosion of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus slowed down most initiatives that were launched before the pandemics. However, despite of these difficulties, China and Bosnia and Herzegovina do plan to continue to develop cooperation within the “China+17” framework and the “One Belt One Road” initiative. Bosnia and Herzegovina and People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level in April 1995, at the time war in Bosnia and Herzegovina still was not brought to its conclusion. At that moment, the two countries wowed to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and agreed to make effort in furthering joint development and cooperation.

  • Potentilla Tommasiniana F.W
Stvdia Botánica 12: 219-235, 1994 MORFOLOGICAL VARIABILITY, ECOLOGICAL, CHOROLOGIC AND PHENOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POPULATIONS OF THE SPECIES POTENTILLA TOMMASINIANA F.W. SCHULTZ IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA S. REDZIC Department of Plant Ecology, Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo. P.O. Box 207, 71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. SUMMARY: Based on the morphological analysis of a larger quantity of popula tions of the species Potentilla tommasiniana, collected from different stands in ecological sense, it could be stated, that this species, is very variable. The level variability is the lar gest in the form and the size of rosette leaves and in the teeth number on the middle lobe of a leaf, in the lenght of the peduncle and in the width of the outer sepal. The species has a wide range of tolerance for phytocenosis. The most of its populations occur in the com munities of submediterranean rocky balds of alliance Chrysopogoni-Satureion subspica- tofHtetH-ic 1934. Keywords: Potentilla tommasiniana, flora, variability, ecology, chorology, pheno logy, Bosnia and Herzegovina. INTRODUCTION The species Potentilla tommasiniana has been described by F.W. SCHULTZ in 1858 (Arch, fl., 273 and in Jahresb. Pollichia). It belongs to Subgenus Potentilla, Sectio Aurastrum and Series Grandiflorae. The available literature about this species shows us that it has a rather complex taxonomic status. Many authors give it the status of variety within the widespread species P. arenaria Borkh. In the Flora Europea (BALL & al. 1968) it is assigned to the species P. cinérea Chaix, what is inadmissible, for, according to MEUSEL & al. (1965) P. cinérea develops out of the aureole of the species P.

The purpose of this appendix is to describe the methodology used for ranking different hydro power projects (HPPs) and to present the results. A10.2 Methodology for Ranking Hydro Power Projects The methodology is based on an estimation of the benefit to cost ratio for each proposed HPP. This ratio is then used as a priority index ratio for comparing the economic merit of different HPPs selected as candidates for the generating expansion programme. A10.2.1 Benefit Analysis A full life-cycle system analysis should be used for determining the economic benefits of a HPP. These
