H.R. No. 293 REPRESENTATIVE SCHNEIDER Honoring Katie Spotz as the youngest person to row across an ocean alone. Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Ohio: WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Katie Spotz on becoming the youngest person to row across an ocean solo; and WHEREAS, A remarkable individual, Katie Spotz is deserving of recognition for her exemplary accomplishment in rowing. At the age of twenty-two, she rowed a one-person boat 2,817 miles from Dakar, Senegal, across the Atlantic Ocean to Georgetown, Guyana, in seventy days, five hours, and twenty-two minutes, raising money to benefit the Blue Planet Run Foundation, and she is the first American to row a boat under her own power from mainland to mainland; and WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete, Katie Spotz previously bicycled across the United States and became the first person to swim the length of the Allegheny River, and her latest achievement is a justifiable source of pride and a fine reflection not only on her but also on her family and her hometown, Mentor, Ohio. Her unwavering commitment to excellence has earned her the respect and esteem of many, and she is certainly worthy of high praise; and WHEREAS, Through this venture, Katie Spotz has learned important lessons of discipline, perseverance, and hard work that will undoubtedly be of great benefit to her throughout her life. Through her outstanding efforts, she has inspired countless individuals to excel in various areas of endeavor, and she has set an example worthy of emulation; therefore be it RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Katie Spotz on her personal success and extend best wishes for the future; and be it further RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Katie Spotz..
