I am very happy that you want to be present to discuss and develop your ideas at the European Youth Event – EYE. Today we are in urgent need of new ideas for Europe. The European Union faces big- ger challenges than ever: the refugee crisis, increasing nationalism, the economic and monetary union that still needs to be finished, a possible exit of the UK from the EU EUROPEANand thePARLIAMENT danger from terrorism are only some of the most pressing problems. STRASBOURG 20-21 MAYIt would 2016 be dangerous to think that there are no alternatives to the EU. There is one. It is a Europe of nationalisms, of borders and walls, a Europe of antagonism and egoism. A Europe of less prosperity, less security, less freedom and less cooperation. And now we have come dangerously close to this alternative, as for the first time in history the failure of this grand idea and incomparable success story is unfortunately a realistic scenario. Everyone who puts our common project in jeopardy puts in jeopardy the future of co- ming generations. It is thanks especially to young, active people like you that I believe in the future of Europe. With your contribution to a vibrant European democracy, you will make the difference in the future. This leaves me optimistic regarding the huge tasks ahead of us. So thank you very much for your interest in European politics and the European Parlia- ment – an exciting, multilingual, unique political institution. And the European Youth Event will be equally international and multilingual. My wish for you all is to have fun, hold interesting discussions, come up with many good ideas and enjoy your experience here in Strasbourg. The EYE 2016 brings together young people from the 28 EU Member States and beyond in the European Parliament. It will be a unique opportunity for you to engage in workshops, debates and many other activities with your peers and with decision-makers. We want to listen to YOU! Your ideas will serve as a source of inspiration for Members of the European EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT Parliament and will be discussed in several parliamentary committees in the autumn. STRASBOURG 20-21 MAY 2016 The EYE 2016 aims to: - give you the opportunity to present and discuss ideas on how to make a change in Europe with fellow participants and with European decision-makers; - encourage discussion and debate on hot topics and future European policies; - give you an opportunity to stage cultural performances and showcase cultural diversity in Europe. Given the success of the first edition of the EYE – EYE2014, the President and Vice-Presidents decided to invite all of you to a second edition on 20 to 21 May 2016, for an exciting weekend of ideas, debate and encounters. The European Parliament has organised the event with the help of 11 partners, notably the EUROPEANEuropean PARLIAMENT Youth Forum, to help ensure that the EYE is not only an event for young people, STRASBOURGbut is also organised with young people. 20-21 MAY 2016 The EYE is a unique event. It brings together young people from all backgrounds and from all over the European Union. Politicians, scientists, artists, entrepreneurs, academics and other experts have come here to listen to your ideas and join in your discussions. The EYE 2016 will include a wide variety of activities, focusing on five main themes: - War and Peace: Perspectives for a Peaceful Planet - Apathy or Participation: Agenda for a Vibrant Democracy - Exclusion or Access: Crackdown on Youth Unemployment - Stagnation or Innovation: Tomorrow’s World of Work - Collapse or Success: New Ways for a Sustainable Europe The EYE motto is “Together we can make a change”: the future of the EU belongs to you, the younger generation. This event will feature the famous graffiti artist “Seen” (open to all participants without booking) from New York and is comprised of around fifteen European graffiti artists and musicians. My research project tackled the evolution of ballet, particularly in the French context. In other words, how did ballet evolve over time and what constitutes a ballet even with these differences. Since I was in Paris for language and cultural immersion, I decided to only focus on the French style of ballet, especially since I am familiar with the Russian style (I danced for 15 years at a Russian conservatory-like academy) and the American style (via Williams College).

Queens of the Stone Age, Calvin Harris, Placebo and many more will definitely be at Óbudai Island in the heart of Budapest this summer. In 2014 the ’Island of Freedom’ will take place one week later than previously. Károly Gerendai, founder and main organizer of Sziget Festival, said: „It seems like a good decision that we put the date of Sziget one week later, because now we can announce better names compared to this time last year. To put it simple there is a better chance that bands are on a European tour at this part of the month.” Sziget Festival was once again shortlisted amongst the top ten major European festivals this year at the European Festival Awards.     our story The creative label Mosaert - an anagram of Stromae - was founded in Brussels in 2009 by Paul Van Haver (better known as Stromae), together with his brother and artistic director Luc Junior Tam, to mark the launch of the singer’s first album, «Cheese».     Themalijst 50 JAAR BELPOP (1968-2018) Ter gelegenheid van het 50-jarige bestaan van de Kortrijkse Discotheek (voor de jongeren = de muziekafdeling van de bibliotheek) brachten we al een lijst met 50 hedendaagse klassieke componisten, 1 per jaar vanaf 1968. Daarna kwam de lijst met Vlaamse schlagers en nu schenken we wat aandacht aan de Belgische rock- en pop. Het is alweer een interactieve lijst geworden met aandacht voor soms zeldzame beeldfragmenten. 1968 The Pebbles Seven horses in the sky Met ‘Get around’ hadden The Pebbles hun succesformule te pakken. Met de opvolger ‘Seven horses in the sky’, deden ze het nog beter. The Pebbles namen hun eerste singles in de studio’s in Parijs op , nadien mochten ze zelfs naar Abbey Road in Londen. ‘Seven horses in the sky’ is een song die Bob Baelemans, Fred Bekky en Luc Smets in hun vast repetitielokaal hadden geschreven. Fred had met Bob al een song uitgewerkt en flarden daarvan werden in ‘Seven horses in the sky’ verwerkt. Luc kwam op de idee van de piano-intro . Voor elk nummer gingen The Pebbles binnen de groep op zoek naar de meest geschikte stem en voor dit nummer bleek dat Luc Smets te zijn. Fred Bekky wou ‘een opvallende’ intro geven en kwam aandraven met de idee van een stel op hol geslagen paarden ! Het succes bleef niet uit. De 25ste januari 1969 bereikte de single de 5de plaats in de BRT top dertig en zou pas na 11 weken uit die hitlijst verdwijnen. Ook internationaal werd het een buitengewone meevaller.
