TITLE: The Resurrection Part 1 SCRIPTURE: John 20:1-18

ICEBREAKER: If you did not do so last week, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, let everyone in the group give thanks to the Lord for all that He has done in their lives over the past 12 months. (It is okay if this takes most of the group’s time together.)

BIG IDEA: Once Joseph and finished burying , the disciples were in hiding, fearing their own arrest, torture, and death. As the whole city was enjoying rest on the Sabbath, the disciples sat numb with grief, but shortly before dawn on Sunday, the women disciples, who had followed Jesus from , gathered to finish the burial Joseph and Nicodemus had begun. However, when they arrived, the tomb was empty. This section shows an amazing faith sparked by the hope found in a resurrected Lord.

1. THE – READ John 20:1-10 CONTEXT: Mary had a relentless pursuit of Jesus, even after His death.

A. What stands out to you in verses 1-10 about John’s account of the resurrection? B. Discuss an event or a season in your life when you experienced difficulty, and yet still believed and pursued Christ. C. How do you explain to others that even though life isn’t always easy as a Christ Follower, hope is possible in the midst of difficult seasons?

2. MARY’S INTERACTION WITH THE RESURRECTED JESUS – READ John 20:11-18

A. With what word does Mary respond to Jesus? What is the significance of this title? What is Mary trying to communicate to Jesus when she addresses Him with the title “Rabboni?” B. What has convinced you of the reality of the risen Christ? How would you explain the reason for your faith to a non- believer? C. What does the phrase, “go and tell” mean to you? Would you consider yourself a “going” and “telling” Christ Follower? Explain.

A. PRAYER: Thank Jesus once more this week for His willing, humble sacrifice, and to God for raising Him from the dead. Pray that God would encourage your heart, mind, soul, and relationships this week with the reality of this true . B. ACTION: Sharing your faith is the overflow of the impact of the gospel in your own life. Prayerfully, share what God has done in your life that you are thankful for with someone this week.
