2008-09 Cornell Big Red Men’s Ice Hockey www.CornellBigRed.com • 85 Cornell’s All-Time Great Goaltending Performances Ken Dryden ‘69 Ken Dryden is the only Cornellian, and one of only a few in the nation, to be named to the All-America team for three consecutive seasons. As a sophomore in 1966-67, he recorded his best season statistically, leading the Big Red to its first national championship. Dryden was the starting goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens from 1971-79. During that time, the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup six times. He is a member of the Cornell Athletics, National Hockey League and CoSIDA Academic All-America Halls of Fame, as well as two others.

His 1.20 goals against average bested a national record that stood for 45 years. Jimmy Howard of Maine posted a 1.19 goals against average in 2003-04 to eclipse LeNeveu’s mark. LeNeveu posted nine that same year, breaking Ken Dryden’s

Meet The Big Red record while also posting a .940 save percentage, which ranked eighth all-time in college hockey. A Hat Trick Finalist for the 2003 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, LeNeveu signed a professional contract with Phoenix in the summer of 2003.

David McKee ‘07 David McKee rewrote the Cornell and ECAC Hockey record books in his first two seasons with the Big Red. He posted five shutouts and started every game as a freshman in 2003- 2008-09 Opponents 04, which turned out to be only a small taste of what was to come in 2004-05. McKee broke David LeNeveu’s league record with 10 shutouts in the season, giving him 15 for his career and besting the league mark of 13 held by Ken Dryden and three others. McKee’s 1.24 goals against average was the third-best of all time and his .947 save percentage tied for third in that category. He helped the Big Red hold opponents to just 1.29 goals per game, a post-Depression era record, and was named a Hat Trick Finalist for the 2005 Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
