This centre holds and spreads. Two years ago, I began and ended my foreword to the inaugural edition of Blackbird: New Writing From The Seamus Heaney Centre quoting this line from ‘Kinship,’ centrepiece of Heaney’s 1975 collection North. At the launch of the first book, I topped and tailed my speech with Dr. Darran McCann the line too. It has become the unofficial motto of the Centre his name adorns.
