The Cockfield Benefice And even if God does exist, and - as Christians claim - loves us as children, how can it be that God has allowed coronavirus to infiltrate and devastate our society? This is an age old question, and one that can’t really be answered in a Dear Friends, way that would satisfy most people. One of our lay ministers, Malcolm Gifford, gave me a book by John C Lennox which is entitled, ‘Where is God in a corona- Today I visited Homebase, it was a joyous occasion as I wheeled my trolley virus world?’ It is a very short book of 62 pages, but I think it is very good at around one of my favourite stores in Bury St Edmunds. I have to confess that I helping us to understand what God is really like, and where God is in the midst would rather shop in a DIY store than a fashion outlet! I needed some screws of all the pain and suffering that coronavirus has brought about. for the garden gate which my dog had managed to damage a couple of days ago, and I had to fix it to make it safe. It was lovely to be back in the store, What I have always known as a Christian is that God loves us very deeply, and even with social distancing! will not force us to love Him.

    FELSHAM CONSERVATION AREA APPRAISAL © Crown copyright All Rights Reserved M S D C Licence no 100017810 2010 INTRODUCTION The conservation area in Felsham was originally designated by Mid Suffolk District Council in 1996. The Council has a duty to review its conservation area designations from time to time, and this appraisal examines Felsham under a number of different headings as set out in English Heritage’s ‘Guidance on Conservation Area Appraisals’ (2006). As such it is a straightforward appraisal of Felsham’s built environment in conservation terms. This document is neither prescriptive nor overly descriptive, but more a demonstration of ‘quality of place’, sufficient for the briefing of the Planning Officer when assessing proposed works in the area. The photographs and maps are thus intended to contribute as much Pump Wheel as the text itself. As the English Heritage guidelines point out, the appraisal is to be read as a general overview, rather than as a comprehensive listing, and the omission of any particular building, feature or space does not imply that it is of no interest in conservation terms. It lies on the boulder clay of ‘High Suffolk’, a recent glacial deposit over chalk at greater depth. The village lies on gently sloping ground between 75 and 85 metres above OD, very much on a watershed, standing near the beginnings of many local waterways.

Carthew, in The East Anglian, vol. n (1866), pp. 164-5, with further observations on pp. 163 and 166. Other pedigrees of the family are in the British Museuni (Add. MS. 19126, if. 111-120, and Harl. MS. 1560, if. 310-313) and in the Bodleian Library (Tanner MSS. 180, f. 159, and 257, 398-403). I am indebted to our Honorary Editor, Mr. Leslie Dow, F.S.A., for directing me to all these sources which I have examined and compared with a pedigree of the Dandy family now in the possession of Mr. C. H. Bullivant of Minehead, Somerset, to whom I must also record my thanks for his courtesy in allowing it to be published. The document owned by Mr. Bullivant is 9 ft. 6 in. long by 2 ft. 4- in. wide. It consists of sheets of parchment pasted together on which are written sixteen generations reciting the descent of the Dandy family and some of its alliances. There are 141 entries each accompanied by a shield of arms of which most were originally finely painted; in addition, there are six achievements and ,sqven panels of notes.
